Temple to the Big East: A Sean Combs Musical Tribute

Share

Well. It happened (finally).
After months of rumors and reports, Temple University is finally on its way back to the Big East. Only this time, rather than just rejoining for football, they'll be coming in as a full, all-sports member.
As has been speculated over the past few weeks, Temple football will immediately exit Mid-American Conference and join the Big East as its eighth football-playing member next season, thus filling the conference's scheduling hole.
As for basketball and the remainder Temple's Olympic sports, they'll spend one more year in the Atlantic 10, before making the switch in the Fall of 2013. Update: Via the Inquirer's Keith Pompey, the Big East is expected to introduce Temple at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday at a press conference in New York. Owls AD Bill Bradshaw and head football coach Steve Addazio are expected in attendance.
...more below with further updates on Temple's exit/entry costs...
Previous reports had indicated Temple owed the A-10 a $1 million exit fee if they were to give one year's advance notice of their departure, which they have. As for the MAC, Pompey is tweeting that the university was able to come to a $6 million settlement with the conference. Update 2: Temple University spokesperson Ray Betzner has told the Temple News' Joey Cranney that the Big East will cover all Temple's exit fees. Update 3: CSNPhilly contributor Micheal Bradley writes that the Big East will pay for half of Temple $6 million MAC exit fee and provide a no interest loan to the university for the remaining $3 million.
And there you have it, six months of rumors, reports and speculation comes to an end.
Should you care to re-live the long and winding road (hey, wait, we might be able to use that!), you can check out conference realignment wrap-up below.
Also, at some point, I began embedding enough songs at the end of these Big East posts to put a mini-playlist together. So scroll below the archived links and consider what you find "The Official T7L Conference Realignment Playlist," featuring two new additions that bring a fitting end (who are we kidding? -- the conference could still implode at some point) to the saga. We'll let Puff Daddy take it from here:

I'm coming home / I'm coming home / Tell the world I'm coming home / Let the rain wash away / All the pain of yesterday / I know my kingdom awaits / And they've forgiven my mistakes / I'm coming home / I'm coming home / Tell the world I'm coming home...
Back where I belong / I never felt so strong / (I'm back baby) / I feel like there's nothing that I can't try / And if you with me put your hands high / If you ever lost light before / This ones for you / And you / The dreams are for you...
