NHL Lockout Casualty: Scott Hartnell's Charity

Does Gary Bettman hate charities too?

As we all know by now the NHL locked out its players over the weekend and the 2012-13 hockey season appears to be in doubt.

But it also apparently effects the charities that many of the players take the time to raise money for when they're not out playing on the ice.

Scott Hartnell had a charity golf outing at Woodcrest Country Club on Monday and he was genuinely peeved when members of the Flyers organizational brass failed to show up. Bob Clarke and coach Peter Laviolette were among those who stayed away from the charity event based on the NHL's warning of a fine for mingling with the other side to raise money for a good cause.

From the Courier-Post:

"I'm disappointed," Hartnell said before teeing off. "You'd think
you'd be able to put your differences aside and help one of your
players' charities."

Told about Hartnell's frustration, Flyers center Danny Briere said,
"I agree. There are things sometimes that are more important than the
sport itself ... like when you're able to help people that need it.

Nobody likes to see a player kicked while they're down.

But add charities to the list of things being negatively effected by the NHL lockout.
