Halladay Placed On DL with Lat Strain, to Miss 6-8 Weeks

The news on Roy Halladay is not good, but it's also not season-ending at this point.

From a Phillies release:

Right-hander Roy Halladay has been placed on the 15-day disabled list,
retroactive to May 28, with right latissimus dorsi strain, Senior Vice
President and General Manager Ruben Amaro Jr. announced today.  To fill
his spot on the 25-man roster, catcher Erik Kratz has been recalled from
triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Halladay left his start over the weekend in St. Louis after throwing only two innings. After the game he complained of "general soreness." He was evaluated today in Philadelphia where the right lat strain was determined.

6-8 weeks likely means that Halladay will miss approximately eight starts or so. Kyle Kendrick will likely remain in the rotation. Vance Worley also reportedly threw 30 pitches this afternoon, but there is currently no timetable on his return. Dave Bush's name has also been mentioned as a potential call up for a few spot starts.

One other twist to all of this, as Jayson Stark pointed out, is that the eight or so missed starts by Halladay could have contract implications, as his vesting option in 2014 is based on innings pitched.
