Trading Card Company to Release Flyers-Themed Set

Cool news for the collectors out there via the blog The Hockey Writers. This June, In The Game Trading Cards is scheduled to release a limited edition set called Broad Street Boys to commemorate the history of the Philadelphia Flyers franchise. From what we can tell, the collection is top notch, and includes tons of inserts featuring game-used memorabilia and player signatures.

According to the company's web site, the base set will depict the history of the Flyers, beginning in the expansion years, working its way up to the present day roster. We can also confirm at this time there are at least 44 memorabilia cards utilizing patches of fabric from game-used jerseys, and on some, specifically the number or team emblem. Additional cards feature memorabilia from multiple players, including a series depicting the Flyers and Sabres in celebration of Philly's Stanley Cup victory in 1975.

The cards look incredibly vibrant, and while I haven't purchased a pack in probably a decade, I would be tempted to pick one up just to see what they look like in real life. ITG Cards has focused on hockey since entering the market in 1998, most often with specialty releases like Broad St. Boys, or their most recent release, 2011-12 Between the Pipes -- a set dedicated to goalies.

The cards drop on June 29 in packs of 14 -- eight base cards and six inserts. If ITG wants to send us a box to review, I would take no issue with that.
