Chooch Is a Beast Even Off the Bench, Helps Power 10-6 Phils Win

That's Jimmy Rollins admiring the 3-run homer he absolutely clobbered in the eighth inning of the Phillies 10-6 win on Wednesday night in New York to help push the Fightins to a series victory and finish their road trip off on a real positive note.

The Phillies had three important longballs on Wednesday night.

The first by Ty Wigginton to get them on the board to tie things up at one apiece in the second inning.

Perhaps the biggest swing of the bat on the evening, a two-run pinch-hit home run by Carlos Ruiz to tie the game up at 3-3 with two outs in the seventh (video).

Brian Schneider made it all posible by getting a clutch hit of his own to setup Ruiz's homer. B-Scheid has performed well in Chooch's absence this week.

And some huge insurance off that bat of J-Roll in the eighth when Jimmy destroyed a ball into the second deck. (video)

While the bats were mostly quiet early on in this one, they saw the continued production out of Ty Wigginton and Carlos Ruiz, the later of which has simply been amazing. Even on his "off night" to rest his sore hammy, Chooch is ready to be a game changer.

Charlie warned him.

From Jim Salisbury:

“Charlie told me before the game, ‘Be ready, you might have to
pinch-hit,’” Ruiz said after the game. “I said, ‘Yes, I'm ready.’”

Love.

Cliff Lee once again came short of earning the 'W' but did pitch a solid outing and even added a super heady defensive play you can watch here.

Following the game, Lee said it's all about the team getting the win and he isn't one to sweat not getting the personal stat boost. Cliff was also the latest to throw the "our best player" praise Chooch's way following the game.
