Allen Iverson is Teamless, Still Talking About Practice, Still Patronizing T.G.I. Friday's

Allen Iverson became a free agent last week and as of Monday morning he was still without a team. The Detroit Free Press caught up with the former Sixer last week at a Detroit-area T.G.I. Friday's. Iverson has called his time in Detroit the most miserable of his career.

Allen Iverson's New Hit: "Press Hop"

I'm going to have to plead ignorance on this one. Can someone explain to me this "auto tune" ish and tell me whether it is or is it not dead? This remix that's been making the rounds prominently features Allen Iverson's infamous "practice?!?" presser as well as brilliant cameos by Terrell Owens and Joe Namath. Reader James points out that this is "better than anything Jewelz ever put out." I don't eve know what that means? I thought Pieces of You was a great album!

Quotable: Iverson Would Rather Retire Than Come Off Bench

"I'd rather retire before I do this again," Iverson said.

Allen Iverson Gets His Braids Chopped Off

I was just minding my own business, thumbing through the NBA All-Star Weekend photo gallery at Yahoo! when I saw a picture of a freshly cropped Allen Iverson and wondered, "How did that picture from 1996 get mixed in there?"

As it turns out, it's not from '96 --  HE GOT RID OF THE BRAIDS!

I don't judge dudes, but his new (old?) look makes him seem about 10 years younger:

Two great YouTubes, including his Eastern Conference All-Star teammates clowning him, after the jump...

Iverson Sucks The Emotion Out Of Teams

"They are playing with no emotion," says a long-distance viewer. Allen Iverson "has killed the team's spirit with his style of play."

Don't be surprised if Pistons president Joe Dumars trades A.I. before the Feb. 19 deadline, the same team executive e-mailed. "But only if he can get back a similar expiring contract."

Good luck with that. It appears as though nobody wants to love Iverson and his shoot-first mentality for who he is and that's a bummer. [NYPost via Slam]

T7Lxmas 3: http://tinyurl.com/T7Lxmas3" Feel free to do both if you'd like.

51v91zkzdhl_sl500_aa240_ Today, we're not only giving away a copy of the amazing FreeDarko presents The Macrophenomenal Pro Basketball Almanac, but we also have a chat we did with one of the main brains behind the amazing creation. Nathaniel Friedman of Free Darko and the Sporting Blog among other places answers our questions.

Enrico: Perhaps, if you like, you could briefly tell us about your Philly ties?

Nathaniel Friedman aka Bethlehem Shoals: Myself, Big Baby (illustrator/designer), and Silverbird5000 (stats) all went to Haverford College, and lived in Philly after graduating. I was in the area a grand total of eight years. Also, my mother grew up in Bucks County, and a couple of my aunts and uncles stayed in the area, so I was around there a lot when I was younger.

E: One of the main points of the FD Manifesto states "We find rooting for the home team spiritually and emotionally limiting." Do you think this holds true in all cities, specifically in a very loyal sports city like Philadelphia?

Shoals: I'd say a lot of the Manifesto—which is a stark, go-for-broke version of what I actually believe on the subject—was a direct result of, or reaction to, my time in Philadelphia, around Philly fans and teams, etc. In fact, that's probably true for a lot of what I believe about sports. If you took the book, and completely inverted every single word, you might have the perfect Philly fan's Bible.

Sixers Face Allen Iverson's Pistons This Evening in Motor City

tattoo nba star I just went back and watched this video from when Allen Iverson returned to Philadelphia in March to play as a member of the opposing team. It was hard not to get emotional and feel nostalgic for the days when A.I.'s number 3 Sixers jersey was a fixture at the Wachovia Center. Allen has switched teams once again and will now face the Sixers as a member of the Pistons tonight in Detroit. Sure, it's not a Philly homecoming but any game the Answer plays against the Sixers for the remainder of his NBA career will garner some attention.

A lot has changed since Bubba Chuck's days in a Sixers uniform.

Iverson Still Talking About (Or More Just Missing) Practice

From the National Post:

Iverson skipped the Detroit Pistons' practice on Thursday morning, less than 24 hours after grumbling of coach Michael Curry's decision to hold the workout.

Curry said that Iverson will face a "hefty fine" and will be held out of the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Milwaukee Bucks.

Yeah, don't bet on the Pistons to come out of the East.

Allen Iverson Deal Receives Luke Warm Reactions in Detroit

Reactions across the Internet have been mixed regarding Allen Iverson becoming a Detroit Piston. Heck, the kids at Detroit Bad Boys aren't even sure about giving the Answer his number.

What number does Iverson wear? Rodney Stuckey is the future, asking him to give up No. 3 for what could be a one-year rental doesn’t sit well with me (nor, I’m guessing, with all the fans who already bought his jersey).

Rumor: Allen Iverson to the Detroit Pistons

Stephen A. Smith is on the phone -- while on a plane! -- with ESPN right now saying that the Answer will likely end up in Detroit in the coming days. It will be weird to see Allen Iverson put on yet another team's jersey. More to come.

Allen Iverson's House Price Dropped By $2.3 MILLION

Damn. You know the housing sector is taking a hit when the price of a house on the market is reduced by $2.3 million. That's probably more expensive than any house I've ever been in. Of course, I never got an invite over to A.I.'s digs over in Villanova. The Answer's house is still on the market and according to the WSJ you can get it for a steal at $4.0 million these days while it was originally listed at $6.3.

Iverson and Barkley Weigh in on Brand Signing

In the wake of Dunleavygate, Comcast Sportsnet caught up with the last two Sixers superstars to get their opinion on the latest top dog in Philly. The response of these two greats, who can be tough critics, is encouraging.

We lu-ya back, AI. Great to hear The Answer say the Sixers found their diamond (and he knows from ice), while the Round Mound says Brand did what he had to do. Anyone else think AI sounded a little like Bubbs there? Jody Mac also said earlier that the Vegas odds on the Sixers winning the title went from 40-1 to 20-1 with the signing. That doesn't make them favorites by any stretch, but it ain't bad for adding one player to the mix.

Donovan McNabb Talks Hoops, A.I., & Sixers

Donovanmcnabbcarmel Jeff McMenamin of Hoops TV has a nice lengthy interview with the Eagles quarterback about his love of roundball. McNabb was a high school teammate of Antoine Walker and, of course, went on to play some basketball under Jim Boeheim at Syracuse before concentrating solely on football.

Hoops TV: I know that you and Iverson were tight and probably still are, do you miss watching him play in a Sixer uniform?

Sixers Prank Not Quite As Sophisticated As Phils

The hot Sixers are on their way to the playoffs and with that Willie Green gets a spot on NBC10's Sports Final. They gave Willie a video camera to capture the Sixers emotions in the locker room when they clinched a playoff birth this past weekend. His footage is lackluster and so are his pranking skills.

While the Phillies pulled off one of the all time pranks earlier this spring, the Sixers resort to hiding in a dark room and jumping out at someone who doesn't know they are there. Spooky! The victim here is rookie Herbert Hill.

Oh. And one more thing: I totally want to hang out with Sammy D. So chill.
