Because Really, Who Better Than a Canadian Yankees Fan to Sing the National Anthem in Philly
I found the decision to have Alanis Morissette, a Canadian, sing the National Anthem before game five between the Phillies and the Yankees a little interesting. Perhaps ironic? I mean, for some reason, almost everyone can immediately identify her as a Canadian. As far as non-hockey-players go, she's one of the most well-known Canadians in the public consciousness.
But I have no problem with Canadians, and if one happens to have a great set of pipes and particular connection to the Phillies or the city of Philadelphia, then by all means, she deserves her shot on our lawn. But Alanis is an admitted YANKEES FAN.
At least she didn't go all Destiny's Child and wear blue pinstripes while standing on the Phillies logo, and the long cool woman in the black pants sounded pretty good. Still, give me Lauren Hart any day. Give me Jill Scott. Amos Lee. I saw it as an omen, but turns out I was wrong...
HD video of Alanis' anthem and some "celeb" watching, after the jump.
Maybe Canadian Yankees fans are good luck for the Phils, rather than a combination reminder of the team that beat them the last time the lost the World Series and the one that was looking to clinch this one last night. Maybe I've already typed too many words about the anthem, which was actually pretty good.
Funny 'graph from that MLB.com article though:
Among the notable celebrities on hand for Game 5 were actor Jim Caviezel and Biff Henderson. Caviezel is best known for his portrayal of Jesus in "The Passion of the Christ" and is starring in "The Prisoner" for AMC airing in mid-November, while Henderson is a stage manager for "Late Show with David Letterman."
This is what passes for notable celebrities these days? A stage manager and the guy who played Jesus? After all, we heard Hova was even in the building, doing shots and signing autographs. And watching his team LOSE.

Alanis has a dual citizenship...she is US citizen since 2005

It was the best rendition of the anthem so far though.

I was at the game and I wasn't sure what was worse- the fact that a Canadian sung our anthem, or the fact I immediately said "Hey she's Canadian!"
I'm wondering, why the hell did I know that Alanis was a canuck?

@Pete, I've been thinking the same thing... Why do we all know that she is Canadian?

We went with the reverse jinx. Smart move.

I thought she used the wrong words in the first line of the anthem, but given the fact she's irrelevant, I didn't bother rewinding to find out for sure.

I'm telling you. They should have brought Taylor Swift back for an encore. We'd be up 3-2.

We know she's Canadian because she was on You Can't Do That on Television in the 80s, right? They all had that accent, as I recall.

Here’s what I’m thinking: Since the power of good forces working together can’t be disproved, let’s all concentrate at a chosen time on Wednesday, if only for a moment. We can close our eyes and silently join Richie, Tug, and Harry, and anyone else who wants to join us, as we put our hearts and heads together and help our Phils make history. Anybody in...how’s tomorrow at High Noon sound?

what causes this to make even less sense is they had John Legend sing the anthem in game 2

They said she won 9 Grammy's. She, in fact, as only won 7.

Before the spelling police come out:
They said she won 9 Grammys when introducing her. She, in fact, has only won 7 grammys. i thought she sang well and at least she was wearing a Phillies colored World Series shirt.
