WORLD F'N SERIES!

And just like that, the Philadelphia Phillies are back in the Fall Classic. It's both surprising and not at the same time. This team dealt with so much adversity in the past year that at times, it seemed impossible they could reach this stage. Then again, if there's one thing this team has taught us, it's never say die.
Cole Hamels got off to a shaky start, allowing a solo home run to Andre Ethier after an excellent at bat, but the Phillies responded immediately with a three run blast by Jayson Werth, one of two bombs in the game. They never looked back. Seriously. The Dodgers fought, fouled off pitch after pitch, put runners on the bases, but the Phillies bullpen never relented and the lineup just continued producing.
After the win, the Phillies met at the mound to congratulate one another, but there was no dogpile, very little jumping around, only handshakes and smiles. This team has four more wins to go.
It's not official as of this posting, but it's hard to believe anybody but Ryan Howard would be the MVP of this NLCS. No offense to Chooch, but Howard's 2 HR and 8 RBI really paved the way for this team's return to the Series.
As for the club, they'll face the winner of the Yankees/Angels series, though it looks very likely it'll be the dream match-up versus New York. There will be plenty of time to breakdown the competition once that's been decided, but a large number of us are pulling for the opportunity to take down the Evil Empire.
In the coming hours/days, we'll be posting as much video and quotes from the celebration as possible. Feel free to forward your own photos and stories. There's still four more wins, but it's already been such an amazing ride.

Glory Days!
Act like you've been there. They did.

Four more wins away from repeating as WFCs! In other news, right after we won the game, did anyone else hear Carey accidently call us the Red Sox? Wtf?

Does anyone else have a been there, done that feeling? Maybe it's because of the relative ease of this particular game as opposed to all of the gut-wrenching games we've had to endure. Don't get me wrong, it's a huge accomplishment to get back to the World Series after winning it all last year, but I just feel like this is another step along the way.
There is still work to be done! Bring on the Yankees or the Angels - it doesn't matter. The WFC will be waiting!

Barring a miraculous Angels comeback, 11/1/09 will include Giants @ Eagles followed by Yankees @ Phillies.
I suspect that may be a busy day for the Philadelphia police.

Why did we boo Ernie Johnson?
Posted by: Nixorbo | Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 12:16 AM
@Nixorbo
Because he's a blowjob hack that works for TBS and TNT. Also, he wouldn't shut the fuck up, all the fans wanted to hear was who the MVP was, all that other shit can come after.

Phillies own the National League. Bring on all comers. Win the whole damn thing again for Philadelphia, Phillies fans everywhere, and most of all, for Harry Kalas.

On CSN, did anybody else see Brett Myers go in for a kiss from his wife and her completely reject him? Looked like he was smoking a cigar and she didn't want to kiss him...haha! She must have a short term memory, cause she will get hit...

There are years that are fun and years that are agonizing. And then there are YEARS like this past 2. This is a team that fans around the nation PRAY for. We are truly beyond fortunate.
God I LOVE this team.
Bring on the Bronx. There will be NOTHING BETTER than beating the Yankees. They'll get all the calls and they will be ESPN's darlings, but the WFC will shine as they always do.
BTW, Blanton's wife is HOT!

Savor it boys...and girls. Savor it.
How many times have we heard "first" or "2nd" or "3rd time ever in MLB history" during these playoff games so far?
More than we are use to, and it's well deserved by this team. They are amazing and beloved by all of us.
Savor it. It's history. First time EVER phillies have reached the world F'in series in consecutive years. Now keep the "first time ever's" coming
