Today's Daily News Cover Story on the 'Red, Hot, and Sexy' Phillies
Here's the lede to today's cover story in the Philadelphia Daily News.
IN THE LIVING room with the television on or in the dark corner of a seedy bar, women hope these men get to third base. They beg for them to reach home. And they scream their names while they're doing it.
And then this:
"We have the best-looking team in baseball. I mean damn, we look good on the field!" she said. "I watched the ALCS Sunday night and apart from [Alex Rodriguez] A-Rod and [Derek] Jeter, they're pretty ugly.
It goes on to call Carlos Ruiz "The Flexible One." I kid you not.
I'm just sad they didn't get into his BABIP. The ladies can't handle those balls in play stats.
I don't know whether to be sad that this is what's on the front page of the newspaper or laugh. It just screams to me of that article in the Tampa Bay newspaper last year during the World Series explaining the basics of baseball.

No, it's fair to laugh. It is most definitely funny. The Tampa artcile was definitely sad. Laugh your heart out.

Your surprised this is what they're left to write about with 7 days to fill before the Series?

Yeah but you can't wait til they run this feature on the new ladies' soccer team.

It's certainly no mistake placing Uncle Cholly next to the word "SEXY".

Hey - the NY Post wrote about the Phillies too. In fact, they even photoshopped Shane Victorino in a dress. Wow, very creative NY Post ...

Oh wait, a Philadelphia team is doing well? Time to cue the word-jumbler story machine! Snowballs/santa/Rocky/cheesesteak/losers/rude/second class.... insert random pronouns and verbs = story

Of course, the Post is the preferred tome for functionally retarded New Yorkers with a preference for picture-driven stories... but these stories are a farce. At the end of the day, we have weapons that go bang and our fans care about it more.... so suck it.

the question is if you're talking about sexy phillies, who picked the cover choices? some are obvious, but i think we're missing the oh-so-dreamy chase utley? the wildman jayson? i mean its just assumed charlie's a studmuffin.

I'm sick of hearing about the Yankees bullpen and how it will shut down the Phillies. The same was said about the Dodgers...and we all know how that ended.
Defending champs and still can't get respect!

Putting swimsuit models on the cover of Sports Illustrated isn't ridiculous? Picking apart a first lady's "cankles" in the press, when she's speaking about healthcare, isn't inappropriate? Welcome to the party. And for the record, the Phillies are the best looking ball club out there;)

I am being led by that first paragraph to believe the Phillies have some sort of through-the-television sexing abilities.

@matt
-the surgeon general warns that sitting to close to the tv while chase utley is at bat can result in spontaneous conception in women.

Everyone should take the NY Post with a grain of salt...or a ton...it's barely journalism. It's like saying Fox News channel is a News channel.
If you want real NY journalism, try the NY Times, but I'm sure arrogance oozes out of that one too, just doesn't require 3 authors to pen the worst "article" ever written.

It is somewhat amusing and there is some quality info mixed in with all the sexual innuendo. Yeah the Phillies have a good offense with solid pitching but its that quiet confidence that I love the most about this team. In a town that had grown accustomed to losing(again...) in the '90s the Phillies put together the makings of something great and they havent disappointed. These guys have changed the attitude of the town and for fans that expect nothing but the best from their players these guys have delivered.

Guys have been ogling cheerleaders (like in the DirectTV ad w/ peyton manning) for decades, its about time some attention was paid to the spectacle of the male body (and these phillies are pretty cute... just ask mac from its always sunny)

Anybody else interpret that cover to be Charlie Manuel as the "sexy one?" Red- Cole, Hot- Howard, And- Jimmy.. Sexy-- Cholly??? I mean if you're gonna have sexy on the cover, put Utley.
