Flyers Bus Trips to Jersey End in Violence, Then Later, a Possible Stabbing

FlyersFightVid It was a great win for the Flyers in Jersey last night, spoiling Martin Brodeur's 1,000th game. Inside the arena, the night sounds like it was perfect for the busloads of Flyers fans who went up to the game. Not too surprisingly, things got a little violent outside when Devils fans mixed with Flyers fans who were waiting to get on the busses back. Here's an account from one of the Flyers fans, and after the jump, a video of the fights that broke out.

There were about thirty Flyers fans waiting for one of the busses to take us back to Philly. This dude walks up with a Broduer jersey that he had on backwards for some reason. He just stood there staring us all down, not saying a word. It was really weird. But then he takes a swing at my buddy. Those two started wrestling a little, a few shots connected but then the security came to break it up. They broke it up for about two seconds and another fight broke out. After that the cops showed up and that was it. My buddy (who looks like he is about to be arrested at the end of the video) somehow managed to escape and met us on the bus!

Video after the jump, plus the verbal account of some serious fan-on-fan violence that happened when the busses got back to Philly.

The video:

It just wouldn't be a fight without some girl screaming over it, huh?

Sadly, things reportedly got a lot worse when some Flyers fans battled their own back in Northeast Philly.

When we got back to the The Arena bowling alley in the Northeast, there were cop cars everywhere and a big brawl taking place. These were all Flyers fans fighting. I don't know why. I guess drinking all day had something to do with it? Anyway, some guy comes walking by with his buddy screaming, "Call an ambulance!" He had been stabbed and his intestines were literally hanging out! There was blood everywhere. We were just a little freaked out and didn't want to be stabbed so we left.

Ugh. A barehanded battle between opposing fans is nothing new, but what apparently happened back in Philly afterward is truly scary. We're still looking for more details on the incident in the Northeast, and if anyone was there and has an account of the story, please email us so we can update it.

The fan-on-fan violence has to stop...

ah jeez--the good folks of the northeast.

come on, flyers fans. save that buffoonery for phils and eagles fans.

in all seriousness, this is a complete joke and makes me embarrassed to be a flyers fan--something i have never felt in my lifetime--not even in 2007.

Devils fans and Flyers fans are pussies.

Its like Phillies and Eagles fans except these guys fight like pussies.

guy in the orange sports coat looks sharp

Maybe the "snowballs at Santa" tag isn't so bad after all. I mean, it could be, "You know how Philly fans are. They stab each other" if the media wants to mold an unfair reputation on one-time incidents.

I'd like to think that - as sports fans and as members of civilization - we're better than this.

We don't do that! We don't do that! I guess she was saying fight like men?!

I would like to think that these guys must have been severely inebriated.

Just to be clear my smart ass comments were directed at the fight in Jersey not the one back in Philly. Any word on the status of the guy that was stabbed?

Sounds like a pretty normal Philly-Jersey Hockey game. No big deal on the fisticuffs, that sort of thing happens anytime these two rivals play. Now the stabbing afterwards, thats just crazy. Thats North East for you, a bunch of white trash criminals. Same people who jolly stomped that poor kid's head in at the Phillies game earlier this year. I'm not one for mass population exterminations, but wiping out that population would only make the city better.

@Dan: I believe you are incorrect. Those arrested for the stomping death were from Kensington.

People get stabbed in bars...it happens. What does that have to do with the Flyers game??

Like she said, repeatedly, "We don't do that."

"Thats North East for you, a bunch of white trash criminals"

nothing like a sweeping generalization from someone without the ability to think like a man

Dan, you must be a classy fella to make a comment like that. I suppose you live in Pleasantville? Fuck off.

fuck all you ass holes and who ever stabbed my cousin . you will be found and prosicuted. you are all pieces of shit and cant fight one one and gotta call other assholes to get involved in it wow u are really tough guys....

same guy stabbed 2 people was on the same bus with the guys he stabbed what a fuckin pussy had 30 of his boys surround the bus when it got back to the parking lot then still decided he needed to stab 2 people both are in the icu one is still on a vent appearntly he was a friend for the guy who ran the whole bus trip

"apparently he was a friend of the guy who ran the whole bus trip"

this is a completely irrelevant fact considering more than half of the people that went were, in one way or the other, friends with him.

Urgh! I wish I hadn't read or seen this :(

whoever planned this bus trip should probably be investigated and charged with harboring a criminal since he transported him back over statelines after the crime

i hope they all go to jail

typical philly trash and their ugly slut dressed whores.

I broke the dam.

Wow, you people really know how to hold together a fan base.

BTW we won the cup last season. SHHHHHHHH

PensFan: Way to make this all about you. This is about senseless violence whereupon someone was critically injured. Are you Pittsburgh fans really so insecure that you have to look for reasons to flaunt your championships? I should think you could have some compassion for fellow human beings.

"My buddy (who looks like he is about to be arrested at the end of the video) somehow managed to escape and met us on the bus!"

...why did you leave him in the first place?

the guy who got stabbed didnt do anything to deserve it. he actually called his brother, who is a COP, to come and help him because he thought he was going to get jumped. When his bro got there the bus was completely surrounded. he got out of his car and said im a police officer and they beat him up. when his brother came off the bus someone stabbed him twice in the stomach and twice in the back. he is stabble now but is still stedated.

So why hasn't this made the news?

Typical trailer park trash flyer fans. I am sure it was the Devils fan fault too right. Who is going to believe that from a Philly fan lol. Ya real fair fight btw.

O i forgot the chick that said we don't do that is on crack. Ya flyer fans don't do that right!!!!!!

Fans from Philidelphia are morons. I go to IUP which is about 50-50 Pittsburgh Philly. Philly fans are the most outspoken obnoxious people I've ever seen. The vast majority of fights that happen (with or without sports involved) are the direct cause of a someone from philly being an asshole.

Nothing like a bunch of trolls from [insert city not named Philadelphia] to come add absolutely nothing to the actual conversation.

Hopefully the scumbags who stab the two guys get what they deserve . One guy almost died you jerkoffs ...

Probably could have gone without posting this kinda bullshit, eh? You guys gotta do better, the700level. Stop posting this kinda irrelevant trash.

Fans from PITTSBURGH are morons. I WENT to PSU which is about 50-50 Pittsburgh Philly. PITTSBURGH fans are the most outspoken obnoxious people I've ever seen. The vast majority of fights that happen (with or without sports involved) are the direct cause of a someone from PITTSBURGH being an asshole.
/fixed

Todd, The story is in the Daily News today too. People getting stabbed is relevant, even if you think it isn't. Be the internet police on your sports boards if you have to fill that role.

The Tonner is wondering if OJ is still in prison.

They didnt have enough up in N. Jersey. So they come back to Philly and act like total low lifes. Cop's a low life too...

People's egos are too big.

I broke the dam.

Rob
Fair enough. I probably would not have heard of if had I not visited here. From what I can tell, this was where the news was broken since there is no article tied to this post. Almost comes off like this post was made to show the fight video with the stabbing being an afterthought, rather than the real story.

Beer And Testerone Don't Mix!!

Hunglikeaton

you disgusting piece of shit!! your a fucking low life scum bag!! that cop came to make sure is brother didnt get hurt. who are you to even say that. you are a fucking CLOWN who has no respect for authority.

Flyers fan are all ass holes....that`s the way the act...
by the way were in 2009 it`s finish the bad street bullshit..

habs fan

@ Habs fan

Pot meet kettle, you morons riot after a 1st round playoff win.

STFU

What is with the generalizations about the Northeast. I have never heard that before in my life.
It's just Philly!

Leave it to thepensblog to dig up anti Philly shit. At least this city supports it's teams when they lose. Look at PNC Park, beautiful ballpark but if there is a losing team in Pittsburgh the city leaves that team to rot until the season ends. Some fans that city has. A bunch of frontrunning chode smokers

Hey at least Pittsburgh fans don't stab each other.

actually, i was on the trip and the person who stabbed the flyers fan wasn't. when we got back to the drop-off spot in NE philly, there were people waiting there already who weren't on the buses. They are the ones who stabbed TWO people and took off afterwards.

and it had NOTHING to do with the flyers game.. the people who stabbed them WERENT even flyers fans or on the buses!!

The article on Philly.com said the stabber was wearing a Flyers jersey. Probably so it would be harder to find him

thats weird that the article said that, because my car was caught in the crime scene so i was there until 2 in the morning. i was surprised that no news teams showed up, but there were none in sight. it was just a drastic situation and its a shame it had to happen on the trip. fighting is one thing, but i was on the other trip and nothing like that happened. just a few bad eggs that spoiled the bunch!

I love how people generalize everything. Like all flyers fans are assholes... and do you know EVERY flyers fan? you don't know me, but because i'm a flyers fan i'm an asshole? it makes absolutely no sense.

@Regina
You are probably an asshole.

Not only does Newark PD gotta deal with its own hell but now its gotta deal with yuppie tourists yelling in the streets like aholes.

NikStar,

The Tonner posted the comment about OJ, Pomp posted the thing about the cop. The Tonner feels you owe the Tonner an apology.

Tonner

Oops...the Tonner made the same mistake. Sorry NikStar. The Tonner's post should have been directed at ".." .. owes the Tonner an apology.

Please now, no fights with Devils fans...you beat one up, their attendance drops down to 5 now...

This is typical Whiskey Tango behavior.

All the blame for this goes to Ray Emery whose Brian's DX2 pads have graphics that are similar to knife blades.

Christ people, it's two games into the season.

If Philly fans were to do something about their violent reputation, maybe others would actually be surprised. Someone asked why it wasn't on the news??? Are you kidding? Maybe its time Philly fans start to police themselves. Unfortunately these weren't the first time you guys had crimes after games.

im srry Tonner. pomp is a dipshit

@.. You and the Tonner are in agreement on that one.

DevilsFan: Maybe if more people attended Devils games you'd have more fighting after games. See I can make gross/ignorant generalizations, too.

Please. It's not like violence doesn't exist everywhere, even in NJ. Just because these dipshits happen to be wearing sports gear at the time doesn't mean all Philly fans are prone to violence. I've never been in a fight in my life. Just stop.

@doubleh do you really think that no one has a reason to generalize all philly fans as being assholes? you clowns pride yourselfs on being "intimidating" which basically turns into anyone wearing the other teams jersey is not only heckled (which is expected) but could be under physical harm.

meant to type that under another name not to be confused with DevilsFan

can anyone repost the video?

More to the story than is what is reported. Question all of you should be asking: why/how did the stabbing "victim" know that he was going to get jumped when the bus arrived to drop him off?

To bad the guy got stabbed but he sounds like the ass to me - calling his cop brother to protect him after doing something to get him in trouble. Typical cop family behavior.

Agreed that there must be more to this story then is being reported.
Regardless, the way it ended was not the right way.

Where's the video? I'll host it on my site if youtube won't allow it.

@devilsfan: Yes, I do have a problem with gross generalizations of any kind. Unless you know EVERY SINGLE Philly fan and know for a fact they are all assholes then you can not say every single Philly fan is an asshole. I doubt my 85 year old grandfather, lifelong Philly fan, who was also a preacher belongs in that category. I've never heckled nor intimidated anyone.

And I agree we don't know the entire story here, but that never stops the opposing fanbases from stopping by just to call the entire fanbase classless for the actions of a few (as if we have any control over these morons).

Why is anyone surprised at this?
Physical violence or threats of it, are pretty typical of my experiences with Philly fans. It is the worst of all NHL arenas in my experience (I've been to 26 of the 30). Only in Philly have I heard threats of violence rather than the usual name calling directed toward people wearing the visiting team's jersey. Including children.
A stabbing related to a Flyer's game trip? I'm not surprised. Hell, Phillies fans threw a riot to celebrate winning the world series. I seems pretty obvious that violence is part of the Philly fan culture.
Here's a tip Flyer's fans: you want to stop being regarded as ignorant, animalistic, violent scumbags? Stop acting like ignorant, animalistic violent scumbags.

Heather: I'm not saying that Philly fans have never rioted or gotten belligerent occasionally. How about the riot after the Lakers won the title this year? The Michigan State riot after the '05 NCAA championship? The '93 Montreal Stanley Cup riot? The '94 Vancouver Stanley Cup riot? All of the countless soccer riots? Artest in Detroit? The shooting after the Tyson/Holyfield fight?

Shall I go on? To say that violence is a part of Philly celebration culture without recognizing the dozens of sports riots that have occurred in other cities is both naive and ignorant.

I went to the NLCS at Dodger Stadium last year (as have others who posted here regularly) and felt that my safety was compromised, even though I did nothing to provoke anger other than wearing the opposing team's colors. If you think violence/intimidation is strictly a Philly thing, then you're sadly mistaken.

oh heather you and your tunnel vision are so cute. where do you learn such attractive qualities?

I attended this game and have some info:
All the Flyers fans in attendance were very rude to Devils fans after the game. Screaming stupid things and acting like they finally won a Stanley Cup, a group of about 30 fans were antagonizing Devils fans who were trying to leave the arena in peace.
Since they were blocking the hallways with their large group of teen fans, I went right throw them trying to get out, it wasn't a second later when they started screaming and flashing their logos at me and sosme other fans. Since I'm very vocal I started chanting '75 as in the year when they last won a cup...do you remember that? Probably not because they looked like they were born in the nineties, and that is a horrible decade for Flyers fans coming up short in '97 and losing game 7 in gretaa fashion to Elias and the 2000 Devils champs...Oh yeah, you were up 3-1 on that series too.
So one of these idiots starts grabbing me as in wanting to start something so I quickly pushed him away to notice that he was stunned by my reaction (DON'T PUT YOUR HANDS ON ME OR YOU GET HURT)I simply continued walking away while his other buddies quickly jumped to talk more crap...Oh yeah, very manly to have a group of 30 or so talking smack to two guys who did not want to deal with your sorry self-confidence.
So if a Devils fan out-of-nowhere punched one of you, it was probably well-deserved. Newark is not happy land, so don't act surprised if you get jumped after antagonizing people there...Think you morons, act like gentlemen and realize that your team has not achieved anthing in over 30 years...GO DEVILS!

Typical scumbag Philly fan behavior! What a shock!

And guess what Philly fans, this doesn't happen everywhere. That's the typical defense I hear from Philly fans.

dale, it does, you just dont have your sights set on it. pre-disposed opinions rule the world. incidents like this arent right, but its foolish to think they only happen in once city. i could give you some links, but that'd take 10 minutes of my time to educate someone with roadblocks to all reason

NJ DEVILMAN, you're an ass...i'm sure EVERY single one of the philadelphia fans were rude.
sounds like you were rude in return.
You admit to chanting 75, because you have nothing current to use as ammo and because you're "vocal" but then expect people to ignore you when you act like an ass to them?
I'm sure they were truly "stunned" by your reaction.

No where in the story does it mention a devils fan punching a flyers fan.

In attendance at the game, I can say that Devils fans were equally as rude.

Pot - Kettle.

@ NJ DEVILMAN.

you are just mad you lost. DORK. and im sure that happened? because you deff would have gotten beat up. no one is afraid of you clown.

I love how people say this is just a Philly thing. How about the fact that there are more people living in Philly than Pittsburgh, and there were more arrests after the Steelers AND Penguins wins than after the Phillies won.

Oh yea, Phillies also had 4-5 times as many people at the parade than the Pittsburgh parades so what's that say about our fan base?

I was at the game and I thought I was gonna end up getting into a fight or two on the way out. I even got pegged with a bottle. Keep in mind I wasn't one of the people being obnoxious, all I did wrong was wear orange.

The bus groups were on the rowdy side but let's be honest, it's easier to be rowdy when you're rolling 30 deep as opposed to 2 deep. This stuff happens everywhere, and if you Devils fans think you're all saints, think the fuck again.

And to be clear, I did meet several nice Devils fans before and during the game, but it was hairy trying to get out of there, especially at the train station.

I have tons of Flyer fans friends, but none of them act like the retards I saww at the arena...Don't Boo my team in my house you losers and since you have no history of winning STFU.
I loved to see how a 3-0 lead got you out of the playoffs last year...

@NJ DEVILMAN pretty sure freedom of speech covers "booing" a team, wherever you are, especially if they are getting their asses handed to them.

i think you have some anger issues that you need to get worked out.

"Don't Boo my team in my house you losers and since you have no history of winning STFU."

Your team deserved to be booed Saturday, and it's pretty lame to complain about booing

Devils record vs. Flyers all-time:
83-65-15

Also, please note that since 1982, the Devils birth year, the Flyers have NOT WON A CUP.

If your win on Saturday is enough to give you the ball$ to act like idiots antagonizing fans in their own arena, then you must surely be from Philly...LOL
And thanks for the attention I'm getting, I see that I'm getting my point accross while pissing all you loser Philly fans out there LMFAO

NJ DEVILMAN, congradulations, retards actually can type.

enough with your nonsense, commenters on this page should ignore you just like your parents used to

This email tread is very diturbing....there are two people seriouly injured and there are people on here complaining about BOOING???? Are you serious? Do you have no compassion? People are seriously injured and you have the nerve to post records? Who gives a shit what the records are and what teams are doing the Booing. If the shoe were on the other foot and the Devils won you know damn right well you Devil Fans would be all hyped up. Don't you dare insult the Flyers Fans when you are no better....some of the Devils Fans are to blame for the nonsense that night just like some of the Flyers Fans.

Yet another example of Philadelphia being a cesspool of degenerates.
