The Heist Is Upon Us: Bloggers at the Bank

Ya know, I've been a blogger for a few years now, with most of my time in the genre (if you will) being right here at The700Level. I still think anything with the word "blog" or "blogger" involved sounds entirely nerdy, and a meet-up of bloggers... I picture indiscernible costumes and people calling each other strictly by their commenter and posting handles until they cross the line into the Real-Life Friend zone. The costumes may be a longshot, but otherwise, that's pretty much what I'm anticipating for today's Walkoff Walk Citizens Bank Park Heist. That and copious amounts of drinking (one of the lesser known yet dominant traits of the crowd). It's going to be pretty great...

Citizens Bank Park, originally uploaded by gajdam1.

A mix of about 40 baseball bloggers, commenters, and readers will descend upon the Jetro lot starting at 4:30PM to commence tailgating, and then we'll take over an otherwise unsuspecting section 202 for the Phillies' plundering of the Pirates this evening. Enrico and I will be there, along with Meech, Dash Treyhorn, and Tug Haines of The Legendary Fightins crew, Liakos, Iracane, and dmac from WoW, Clare from Plunk Chutley, Miss Bee from Phillyist, and bee love from Philly Skyline. If any of you will be in the Jetro or near section 202 today, feel free to stop by and chat it up.

CBPtailgate

With an afterparty planned for a Center City drinking establishment (which I'll be departing from early to catch 722 at Fergies), things could be pretty slow at the Level for the next two days. Maybe we'll iPhone-post a picture that can serve as a gamethread, but let's not get ahead of ourselves and make promises we can't keep. See you at the HEIST.

no How do you Spell Retard? booooooo

@Hummer: I know!

i can't go if dale hunter isn't going to be there.

LOOK FOR THE SHANE GANG IN SEC 102

YO SHAAAAAANE

They just posted the lineups on mlb.com. Raul is back in the starting lineup. Looks like he'll play in the ASG after all.

A promise you can't keep? Like the promised follow-up post to the sports radio polls? The one that was supposed to come after the holiday weekend but never came? That kind of promise?

Also, bummer you gotta hang with Phillyist. They try. They try so hard. And then they try even harder to make it seem like they weren't trying so hard in the first place.

Woah, my bad!!! Mixed up my philly blogs. Phillyist is benign. Philebrity is the cancerous one.

I'm in manhattan eating at Tonic after a class I had. The Mets fan next to me at least enjoyed the yankees blowing their lead, and spent 15 minutes expressing deep envy and admiration for our Phillies as a club. Proof not all mets fans are DBags.

Whaaaaaaat the fuuuuuuck Cole?!

I clicked on that first 722 link and heard what is maybe the most boring guitar solo I ever endured.

Remember the part when the "song" went from G# to A, and then back, and then back again, and then back again, and over and over until even the members of the band look tired?

Remember when the guitar player noodled over the same modal scale over these incessantly-repeating chords, incessantly?

That solo:music::static:television -- it's a presentation that is, technically, in the appropriate medium, but it makes you want to turn that medium off. Rote, boring, annoying. Something I wanted to turn off as quickly as possible.

Speaking of television, this guitar player should listen to them and learn how to use the guitar in an interesting way.

Why does this team have such issues with runners in scoring position with no outs? Gotta have smarter at bats, when you can make two outs but still score the run.

P.S.: I understand that it may be somewhat hypocritical to kill a guitar player for his sheer inability to exercise restraint, when I myself couldn't resist commenting on it. But the difference is that my critique (unless you suck at reading) didn't take up two minutes of your life that you can never get back.

Man Cole makes the pirates look like a fucking all star team. The offense probably is going to have to score 22 again to even have a chance

Wow, Iracane must be laughing up a storm with them down 5-0. Oh, wait, that's right... he's a Phillies fan. And I'm Alex Fucking Rodriguez.

hallady or no hallady, phils won't go anywhere in the postseason without cole being 2008 cole instead of the pile of shit he's been this year.

i hate paul bako

Why the fuck is Greg Dobbs getting so much playing time? He is the most unclutch person Ive ever seen

my brother steve has a short memory

Wow.

Simply wow.

A defining win right there!

hey shawn look what paul bako did

you think he did that to spite me? wow.

Un-freakin-believable win.

How can people still - still - leave this team's ballpark while a game is in session?

Yeah, it wasn't most people, but still: what the fuck do they have to do, come back from 10-0 with 2 outs in the 9th? 4 runs for this team falls under "healthy challenge."

HUGE win tonight. That looked like the Phillies of last year and earlier this season, not the Phillies of two weeks ago. The Phillies of two weeks ago would have mailed it in down 7-3 heading to the 9th, but they didn't give up and got some excellent clutch hitting from Utley, Howard, and Bako. Sweep the series tomorrow!

When SI makes the Phillies 2009 video this will be one of the games they talk about.

@ hitnrun:

You NEVER...I repeat, NEVER leave a Phillies game early because they're losing late in the game.

I've been to too many come back wins to ever even think about doing that.

Those people either just dont care, or dont know this rule.

What a comeback win for the Phightin' Phils! Just unbelievable. Matt Stairs sparking the rally, he's the man. I'm still waiting to see that great swing launch one at the Bank (made many pinch hits when I've gone, no homers though). Ryan Howard showin' why Charlie is taking him to St. Louis. That swing is gonna look good in HRD Monday. And Paul Bako with the walk-off hit. Raul with a very good game in his return. Hope nothing goes wrong to reagrivate the injury. Charlie said he was going to take him out in the seventh, but Raul said he felt good enough to stay in, then the clutch double. Just an outstanding finish.

Synopsis of events:

The shit was shot. Beers were hoisted. Pirates fans were saddened. Phils were victorious. Hi-Five’s were shared. A good time was had by those that matter.

Some notes:

Was awesome to finally meet some of the “Blog-elebrities” of TheFightins.com, The700Level.com, and Walkoffwalk.com. Some of the folks attending were: Meech, Tug, Dash, Enrico, Matt P. and Iracane.

Conclusion:

This needs to be done again, this was a shitload of fun.

out of curiousity which center city bar did you guys end up at?

sounded like a stupid amount of fun. you guys got to see a mid-summer classic right before the mid-summer classic. harry woulda loved this one

The gathering moved from CBP to Cavanaughs at 18th and Sansom.
