SWEEEEEEEEEP! Phillies clean out the Mets
It might be a bit early to call it, but Jimmy Rollins and Brad Lidge just wrapped up a statement series by showing that there's a good chance that the worst is behind them. Rollins blasted a leadoff home run off Johan Santana to start the game, and Lidge struck out the side to end it. The save was Lidge's second in a row, and Jimmy had five hits in the series along with six RBI.
But the Phils best player today was Joe Blanton, who blanked the Mets for 7.1. Big Joe struck out five and allowed just four hits. He was aided by some great defense, but give him credit for inducing a huge GIDP. Aside from a JC Romero HBP, the 'pen was sharp to, with Chan Ho looking great and Grizzly Lidge looked like his 2008 self. In the first two games, Rodrigo Lopez and Jamie Moyer looked masterful. True, this is a Mets team that is a shell of its opening day self, but these guys put them out on the curb like the trash they are.
Of course, it's possible this sweep means no more than the one that preceded it, but screw that noise. It's a holiday weekend and we're celebrating. The Phillies look like they're back, and they still have the return of All-Star starter Raul Ibanez to look forward to. Up next is a four-game set with the Reds and then three with the Pirates. On paper, this should be a good week.
All series long, it was a great showing from the fans at CBP, who sold out the Bank for the holiday weekend and made sure every open space was filled. Now we need those same fans to VOTE SHANE VICTORINO as the NL's Last Chance All-Star.

brad lidge is back, he really was hurt and now hes dominant again...and look up how many games the phillies won when j-roll has an rbi, its amamzing

Oh... and I've officially vote in Shane for the final spot about 65 times so far, so I think you can vote an unlimited amount of times. There isn't anything saying 25votes only or such.

yeah, i def. voted over 25 times for Shane.
I am excited about rollins and lidge, but we must remember that the mets are no better than a AAA squad right now. big week ahead...i'd take 5-2, meaning 8-2 heading into the all-star break.

Solid. Nice solid wins. All pitchers went deep. Didn't have to sniff K-Rod. Phils can only beat the team that's in front of them (that old line.) If they had lost, we'd be bitching that they lost to a Triple A squad. So they took care of bidnezz.
Still, if Met fans are looking for answers, maybe this shows why their bullpen struggles.
Little pink backpack anyone?

with all that money dedicated to their payroll, the mets didn't have enough cash left for the power bill.
lights out.

You have to be excited when Lidge is a) spotting his fastball and slider for strikes b) getting bcak his "out" slider.
Can't wait for Rauuuuuuuuuuul to come back ot either bat in front of or behind Werth who is getting sneakily better.

Dear NY Mets,
Thank you for helping the us and our fans find their "angry" again. We promise to keep it the rest of the season.
We'll get you some Titleist for you for September.
The Phillies
