Highlights of Saturday's HEIST

The kids over at Walkoff Walk have a recap of the events of the HEIST at the Phillies game on Saturday. My favorite comes from MDT in the comments, "If you want to confuse the shit out of a section at a baseball game, wait until the game is at its most pivotal moment and then get forty people to all start chanting "WE WANT SHRIMP! WE WANT SHRIMP!"

Sounds like you guys did nothing but act like drunken idiots. Proud of clearing out kids from your section by using profanity? Sheesh - grow up.

Well done, I hate kids

@Bastard Dan.

Ehem... bite me.

Great work ruining the game for those around you! And rather than be embarrassed at behaving like a dope, you're proud! So, yeah, congratulations: you can't handle your BEER(!!!!), you made kids never want to come back to the stadium, and convinced me, heavy drinker that I am, that there should be breathalyzers at the gate so as to protect the innocent from your buffoonery!

Eh, maybe that's too much, but I really don't get why people act this way. Are you 14 years old? Oh wow, how hilarious, you wrote "drunk" on your scorecard! "I'm so drunk!!! Ahhhh!!!!"

The trifecta of douchebaggery: (i) obsessed with how drunk one is, (ii) unable to control oneself, and (iii) feeling immense pride about this.

Maybe one day, you'll have a kid. Maybe, at his first game, when the drunks sitting behind him puke on his head and he never wants to go back, you'll have to explain to him that this kind of behavior is not only acceptable, it's hilarious.

Guy who cursed at the kid: you should have been thrown out. You are the single worst element at professional sporting events -- the idiot who cannot control himself. People like you make me ashamed of being drunk.

I didnt read it yet but seeing that 2 of the commentators above find your actions to be deplorable I wish I was there even more now.

a normal guy, maybe you can teach your child to be self righteous too. maybe he/she can use cool words like buffoonery and douchbaggery.

re: the words, do you not know what they mean? Are these words that I'm not allowed to use? Would you like me to rephrase? Well, sorry, I won't -- I chose those words because they happen to have the particular meanings I wanted to convey.

And self-righteous??? You're out of your mind. These guys acted like jackasses, plain and simple. There is no excuse for their behavior. They should be ashamed, yet they're proud.

If being able to consume alcohol like an adult, an expecting that other adults will do the same, is self-righteous, well, whatever. Guess I'm self-righteous. If, because I think that ruining a baseball game for children is despicable, I am considered self-righteous, well, sign me up.

Any reasonable person could see that my post was not sanctimonious bellyaching. These guys were jerks! They ruined a baseball game for children!! How can you defend this???

I think what you're reading is a "story." Nobody really acted out of line. Sure there were plenty of beverages consumed but I think you're making something out of nothing. Everyone around us seemed to enjoy the game. In all reality, the kids in the front probably left early because it was passed their bed time.

"3) If you need more legroom for scoring at the ballpark, use loud profanity until the Abigail Breslin lookalikes in front of you clear out in disgust."

That's the relevant text, for those who didn't click over.

I had no reason to think the guy was making up a "story," but I'm happy to hear that he was. I don't want to sound like a bitch, but man, nothing will get the vitriol flowing through my veins like hearing old jerks ruin sports for kids. Maybe just because I have such fond memories of going to games when I was younger, and would hate for others to not experience the same joy.

Glad everyone had fun.

"They should be ashamed"

when defending yourself of being self righteous, try not to use a statement like that.

it seems these fellas got a bit out of control and you're treating it like a rape/murder.

also, you're lecturing people on self-control..while you seem like a good guy, you dont strike me as a man who has this mysterious 'control' you're speaking of.

I was "lecturing" that it's not okay to ruin baseball games for little girls. It is shameful behavior and the appropriate emotion after committing shameful behavior is shame. If you think that drunk assholes cursing at little girls is not shameful behavior, well, I guess it's just a difference of opinion. "You should feel ashamed" literally means that "your behavior was shameful."

Are you arguing that one cannot observe and identify shameful behavior without being self-righteous? That seems crazy. The crux of the "self-rightous" insult points to an inherent hypocrisy in the insultee. While you try to point out hypocrisy in my posts, your attempt is misguided.

The "self-control," or lackthereof, at issue is not argumentative self-control; it's physical. It is the drunken inability to direct one's actions. Not "self-control" in raging at people on the internet. Self-control in not so physically disgusting people that they literally can no longer be around you.

Finally, I wasn't treating it as anything that it wasn't. I was treating it as the disgusting behavior that it was.

Or seemed to be, had it been true. Again, really happy it's not.

talk about misguided. i never spoke of their behavior because i dont know what happend, and neither do you. i was talking about you, the holy one, that seems to have a lot of advice for young men and their drinking habbits.

so, you can stop with your impressive vocabulary, no one likes a snooty self righteous man with little knowledge as to what went on, or didnt. I didnt judge the group as a whole, im just judging you as a big whiner.

finally, im not sure how you got that i was calling you a hypocrite out of self-righteous. inherent hypocracy to the insultee? who says that? look it up, really smart guy.

self-righteous (adjective):
when smugly moralistic and intolerant of the opinions and behavior of others.

are you done?

Can't we all just get along?

Nobody likes a drunken asshole. There may have been plenty of drunks on Saturday but I don't think anyone really did anything to be an asshole.

Nobody in the section, where I was sitting for the Heist was acting out of line. No one was drunk and disorderly, and no one was scream profanities for the sake of getting rid of kids.

@A Normal Guy, anyone ever buy you a big wooden cross, and a couple of nails?

This would annoy the sh*t out of me.

I don't know or care who this person is or who they represent...they fit the criteria of being an as*hole...

"3) If you need more legroom for scoring at the ballpark, use loud profanity until the Abigail Breslin lookalikes in front of you clear out in disgust.

8) If you want to confuse the sh*t out of a section at a baseball game, wait until the game is at its most pivotal moment and then get forty people to all start chanting "WE WANT SHRIMP WE WANT SHRIMP"."
