So The Eagles Should Sign Terrell Owens Now, Right?
Ha! Terrell Owens has been released by the Cowboys.
Is Kulp the great Kulpstradamus? He wrote on December 12th, 2008:
Conventional wisdom says no, no way in hell actually. Imagine if they could agree to an arrangement though, a one year deal, good money. T.O. would give it a go. Would the Birds? Knowing that it could fall apart again, knowing it definitely would fall apart again, but realizing it could be the last opportunity for all of them in Philly, out of desperation they would have to at least consider the possibilities and pop in those tapes from '04, the one season they were flat out the most dominant team in the NFC.
Update: All Jerry Jones can think about are balls.
Some Screamin A. on the T.O. situation:

why not?
now they can tell McNabb they went after big FA's right?

First Adam Eaton goes from the Phils, then TO from the Cowgirls. Been a good stretch here.
Wonder who will sign him now?

One year league min. heavily incentive based....BRING HIM BACK

Posted by: Bmac | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:23 AM
If I didn't hate him so much... I was just watching some highlight videos of his time with the Eagles. Remember how fucking exciting that time was? Remember the first play as an Eagle?
I mean, if Dawkins is going to be blitzing and going to be hitting McNabb and Westbrook come this season, why not throw TO out there at receiver? I have so many mixed feelings about it, even though it won't happen.
Posted by: Drew | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:35 AM
Stay away clubhouse cancer!
I'm sure he'll be very happy in Oakland. That is the next logical step right? Or is he going to be on Pros Vs. Joes with former teammate Pacman Jones?
Also, is his reality show filming him right now? If there is a god they are...
Posted by: Estebomb | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:36 AM
playoff games TO won with the cowboys - 0
playoff games TO won with the eagles - 0
no thanks.
Posted by: the hammer | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:41 AM
God, this is a tough one. But I agree with estebomb: Oakland MUST be the next step. It's only logical from here. That's the only team I can imagine him on.
That said... he would solve a lot of problems around here. I would have very, very, very mixed feelings if TO-Eagles rumors started to crop up.
Posted by: Saul | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:47 AM
Donnie would never let his pwecious wittle ego be threatened by mean old TO for multiple seasons again... even if it was his best, last shot to win something before he joins the ranks of QBs Never to Win It All. If you think 5 is a whiny, self-centered, clinging-to-wrongs-done-unto-him baby now, you haven't seen anything yet if they even breathe a word about signing him. Someone get the binky ready and the milk warmed up.
Posted by: Loqiel | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:52 AM
if mcnabb gives it the okay, i say it's worth a shot. one year contract, he seems to be fine for that period of time. i can hear the TO song echoing throughout the linc right now...
Posted by: jtq1 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:54 AM
Fool me once, shame on you.
Fool me twice, shame on me.
Despite his immediate success with the Eagles, T.O. was a cancer to the Eagles organization.
And now, it seems as if he was more of a cancer with the Cowboys than he was an asset.
In short, it'd be ridiculous to sign him. We shouldn't even consider it in the first place. There's also just too much bad blood between the organization and T.O.
Posted by: jm | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:55 AM
You've all been there.
You see that one girl/guy and - yeah, what the eff, it was fun. One night. Whatever. One Jagerbomb too many. God she/he was an animal! Shit!
But then you worried for a week about the clap. Holy shit. Dropped a bunch of dough on tests and shit. Whoa. There wasn't a better call from a doctor ever before. Clean. Swore you'd never tap that again.

This is EAGLES Phans in complete panic mode. We lost our team leader, and now we're all just freaking out, and scrambling for something to make this team win it all.
It's official... EAGLES Phans are hanging on by a thread, and if we don't get that Ring this upcoming season, there will be massive, massive revolt. I'm predicting it now.
Posted by: PhiPhan5648 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:22 AM
Quit living in the past. That was almost 5 yrs ago, when he still could play.
Posted by: Sundar | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:44 AM
whats funny is Terrel will never win a super bowl(s) at this point, and had such great opportunities,, what a chump. However, Tony Shlomo ruined any chance he had in Dallas, as he spent most of his time buried in Jessica Simpson's fat bush. fuck that smut as well. haha Dallas blows what is this 13 years and counting now?
Posted by: getinwhereyoufitin | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:57 AM
@getinwhereyoufitin
Not that I'm defending the Crygirls, but that's 13 years without a Playoff win, yes, but they still have those Five Lombardi's to keep them warm at night.
It's been 48 years and counting since the Birds last won it all. Time is starting to mount up, and I don't know for sure, but from what I've seen posted throughout here, EAGLES Phans, and I'm one of them, are going so restless, that we're about to explode.

Posted by: theKrisheim | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 08:23 AM
I want a Super Bowl, but I am not THAT desperate. T.O. will NEVER win a Super Bowl. He is a cancer, PERIOD.
We want this team to get better, our guys on the roster need to elevate their games. We need to use our draft picks wisely and maybe throw in a trade.
THAT'S HOW WE GET BETTER, not by signing that scumbag.
Posted by: Bob | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 08:31 AM
So, some of the same people who so upset about losing Dawkins and his great leadership, now want to add back the biggest locker room cancer in the history of the Eagles?
That does not compute.
Posted by: BrianS | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 08:42 AM
He could end up on the Skins. But probably the Raiders.
Can he still make the roster for the Sacramento Kings?
Posted by: Tom | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 08:47 AM
BRIAN S
you are clearly one of the smartest people on this board.
why the hell would anyone want t.o. back on this team? he wrecked SF, was an incredible disturbance here, and destroyed the cowboys.
i understand that he is a good receiver, but so was jerry rice.
we don't need t.o.
Posted by: jd | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 09:06 AM
simmons was exactly right. having t.o. on your team is just like dating the really hot crazy chick.
it's incredible in the beginning, then you realize at one point that she is freaking insane and ruining your life.
then she start banging some guy you hate just to get back at you. then she ruins him, which really works out for everyone.

To anyone on here who wants to bring back TO: YOU ARE FUCKING RETARDED.
Posted by: Brandon | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 09:35 AM
@ phiphan
i understand your sentiments, and also am in agony as with everyone else, but I've come to the realization that obsessing about them not ever winning it is somewhat pointless. I despise the front office, and am getting very sick of Andy's bullshit, but if you look closely, there still actually right in the thick of things. IF they can just keep mcneezy happy and give him that contract, possibly grab another legit receiver(somehow),add beasty tight end, fullback etc, we'll be fine. The league is as open as it has ever been. What, I'm supposed to be afraid of Arizona( I know they're nice but come on). And obviously the Giants will always be there but we own those chumps at this point. On top of all this, the Phils may repeat( i know its difficult, but easily possible), and how fcking unbelievable would that be.
Posted by: getinwhereyoufitin | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 09:40 AM
He spit in the face of Eagle fans, and you people want him back?
Posted by: Scott | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 09:44 AM
It's a good thing T.O. is getting less effective as he gets older, or this could actually have been a hard decision to make. I'm pretty excited to see the Cowboys struggle even without T.O. this season, though. He didn't make Romo lose all those fumbles or throw all those picks, and I'm hoping that without T.O. as a distraction, everybody will be able to see how overrated Romo really is.
Posted by: zfg | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 09:45 AM
Next question!
Posted by: John P | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 10:19 AM
D Gunn said this morning on 610 that through text messages he's found out that the majority of the guys in the locker room are pissed off about losing Dawkins.
A disconnect between the FO and the locker room, the loss of 7 veteran players, an unhappy QB, and an oft injured/aging RB... how could the team be WORSE off by picking up TO again? If they got him for one year and it failed, we're no worse off in 2010 than we are right now.
Posted by: Gaze | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 10:28 AM
Offer Terrell Owens money and not Dawkins? If this were to ever happen, I'd make like Cougar and turn in my wings.

huge disconnect between the FO and locker room. Huge Disconnect between alot of fans right now and the FO. We sir, are at a serious crossroads.

Fuck TO, after they let dawkins go if they bring him back I am done with them, for good. I'll find a new team. Thank god they aren't stupid enough to do it.
Posted by: agam22 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 11:11 AM
No, just no. I actually don't think he even makes us that much better on paper. He has lost a step since he was here last and he drops the ball a lot. He isn't the best in the league anymore. And when you factor in his attitude, is he even top 10? No. I like our group just fine without him. We aren't talking about Andre Johnson, Larry Fitz or Calvin Johnson here. He'll enjoy his time in Oakland getting thrown to every down.
Posted by: shedd | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 11:23 AM
It's unfortunate that a man with his skill set is such a cancer to a locker room. I hope he doesn't get signed, but some teams are super desperate for a receiver (Raiders, I'm looking at you guys) and will throw whatever they can at him just to have him around for 2-3 seasons of spectacular catches and locker room drama.
I just hope it's not us...again.
Posted by: h3bru | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 11:27 AM
Maybe T.O. has lost a step, but he's still better than 95% of the receivers in the NFL, including Houshmandzadeh and Boldin. He posted 1,000 yards, 15 YPC, and 10 TD last year, and that was with Brad Johnson and Tony Interception throwing him the ball.
Posted by: Kulp | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 11:37 AM
T.O. is still a good receiver, and he still put up good numbers, but I think his impact on the game isn't as great as it once was. He only had 2 100+ yard games last season, and one of them was the season ending game against the Eagles where it was garbage time by the second half. It seems like teams with good defenses and a good plan could really take him out of the game a lot more than was possible in the past.
Posted by: zfg | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 11:54 AM
I never thought I'd see the day where "bring back T.O." posts would show up on the 700 level. How far have we fallen? C'mon guys, get it together. This is crazy talk.
Posted by: Mike P | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:02 PM
@ zfg
Some of what you say may very well be the case, but even if he's not taking over games, he's impacting them.
Your point is teams are still gameplanning for him, which you can't say about most receivers, including again Housh and Boldin. THAT is what makes him a special player more than any numbers we can throw around. Maybe defenses are more successful at limiting him now, but the fact that they still have to double him or roll coverages in his direction creates space for the rest of the receivers.
Plus the guy scored 10 touchdowns, so he continues to have a huge presence in the red zone.
Posted by: Kulp | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:13 PM
The crazy girlfriend analogy (though girlfriends deserve our respect here) resonates in that I noticed that every time he disses his old quarterback he then hooks up with the new team and talks about how much he loves his new quarterback, until that too goes sour.
I don't think he's sold his house in Moorestown yet. I would like to see McNabb and Reid make the decision about whether to pursue him.. it's hard to make that decision just on the basis of watching the games and the stats. I think it's unlikely. As it seems to happen there was a personal conflict between Banner and Rosenhaus/TO in which Banner tried to impose his terms (as with Dawk and Tra) so TO'd have to buckle to him.
The great news is that the Cowboys have overrated Williams as a no. 1 receiver and don't have a viable no. 2 or a draft pick, though there will be solid WRs available later in the draft.
Posted by: Ian | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:15 PM
@Kulp
I guess my point (which, granted, I never stated -- but it looks good in my head) was not so much that he's not still good. Rather, he was once so talented and game changing that you could put up with his dropped passes and locker room problems. I'm not sure if that is the case anymore. Further, he already burned the "this is his last chance, he'll be on his best behavior" excuse in Dallas, so there's really no reason to expect it'd be anything but the same T.O.
Speaking of aging wide receivers, I saw something that said Torry Holt is looking to be released by the Rams. He'll be 33 next season, but he's gotta be better than Reggie Brown or Greg Lewis. The only question is whether he can be had for the right price. Anybody have any thoughts on him?
Posted by: zfg | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:34 PM
@ zfg
Yeah, and I'm not picking on you, but a lot of people seem to think Owens is washed up and that simply is not the case. Is it a good idea to sign him? That's an entirely different story.
Holt has been in decline for awhile, but unlike Harrison, he's still a pro. I'd be alright if they gave up a fourth rounder and maybe a conditional pick next year.
Posted by: Kulp | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:45 PM
@zfg
i wouldn't mind holt. his production went down last year due to being on a horrible team, rather than holt physically breaking down.
i say sign'em short term with incentives. we got the cap room and you know we could use him over brown and lewis.
Posted by: jd | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 12:47 PM
@zfg and Kulp
T.O. is still to this day, one of the best Wide Receivers in the NFL, and his stats show that beyond anything.
Irregardless though, all the chatter going on about bringing him back is just insane. Look, I want a new Big Name Wide Receiver as much as anyone else, but T.O. is not that person. He burned his bridges here, and then pissed on the ashes.
I guarentee, that if Reid/Banner/Lurie would throw him a bone, and not Dawk, then I'd be just about done with this franchise.
On another note... there is an article in the Bucks County Courier Times, covering Brian Dawkins interview on 950ESPN. I'll post some direct quotes...
"I wanted to be an Eagle"
"I did not want to get to free angency,"
"I've never gone to free agency. I've had years in the past where I could have collected big bucks on the open market, but I did not want to get there. So why would I want to get there all of a sudden now on my last contract? I wanted to be an Eagle, and they (Front Office) denied that."
"I would say they opened my eyes right away that this was a business deal, that it wasn't about me being who I am to the team,"
"It was about my age, and it was a business decision. And that really hurt."
Posted by: PhiPhan5648 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:09 PM
I think that last quote really hurts us all.
Posted by: PhiPhan5648 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:12 PM
Note to the front office: If you guys sign TO, I will drive down there from Lancaster, walk into the Novacare Complex and punch each of you in the face individually... Seriously, how incompetent is the management of this team that some fans are pining for the return of the man who destroyed our team a few years ago? The STD analogies are 100% dead on perfect. KEEP THIS SYPHILLIS INFESTED, SUICIDE ATTEMPTING, POPCORN POPPING FUCK AWAY FROM PHILLY. I think I made my opinion quite clear.
Posted by: sam | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:14 PM
There are a couple of things the Eagles have/haven't done this offseason but bringing back TO isn't one of them.
Would the Eagles be better with him? - I say marginally but this isn't the guy who in 2004 make Donovan a 60% pct completion QB either.
Owens basically has a possession WR last year who also dropped a ton of balls. I think he was either 2 or 3 in the league last year in dropped balls.
He just isn't worth the headache of bringing back here again because you know that this would be the single distraction/issue on the team.
Posted by: MG | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:15 PM
@ PhiPhan
To me, that last quote reinforces the point that Dawkins chose this, because yes, it is precisely about his age. Why wouldn't that matter?
Posted by: Kulp | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:16 PM
I don't know what Dawk thinks... but I think, that the EAGLES (FO) only looked at age, and not the onfield/inlocker presence that he was. Or the fact that, yes he has lost a step, but he was three steps ahead of the NFL at one point, which still makes him a capable Safety, and one of the best in the NFL.

@ MG - It's a solid statistical point you've made. But wasn't there Jessica-butter all over those balls thrown to T.O.?

Is Down Syndrome your excuse?
Posted by: PhiPhan5648 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:38 PM
So apparently Torry Holt wants to be released from the Rams. How about we all get off the wacky weed and pray for this to happen? He's only 32, a TEAM PLAYER, and has already worked with Curtis.
Posted by: Joe | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:41 PM
@Joe
I'd take Holt with a smile on my face.
Posted by: PhiPhan5648 | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:44 PM
For those who think he is still worth a damn, I present the receivers I'd rather have than T.O. (who we don't have):
-Larry Fitzgerald
-Andre Johnson
-Calvin Johnson
-Chad Johnson
-Steve Smith
-Randy Moss
-Greg Jennings
-Reggie Wayne
-Anquan Boldin
-Marques Colston
I could probably go on actually, but as far as a combination of attitude and talent are concerned, I think he falls pretty far down the list.
Posted by: shedd | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:45 PM
@shedd
I think T.O. is still better than Colston and Jennings, and the rest of the guys on the list are all very, very talented. T.O. is still worth a lot, he just shouldn't be on this team because of his history.
Posted by: zfg | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 01:50 PM
I think we would be a much more complete team with T.O. If Whitten wouldn't have been a little bitch in Dallas this past year, that whole situation might not have amounted to anything. T.O. likes to be the star on the team, I do not see what is wrong with that. He would be the star in midnight green if the Eagles took the chance/risk.
Posted by: db | Thursday, March 05, 2009 at 02:29 PM
@zfg
I know those others are very talented and I can't really argue with you over Colston and Jennings. My point was not to say I would take just about anyone over T.O., but to say that I don't think he is worthy of being called a Top 10 WR anymore. He used to be. He was when we had him (He was Top 5 when we had him really). But I think his skills have declined just enough, that when combined with his attitude, he isn't among the best anymore.
