Hamels One-Ups Utley, Plans To Adopt AIDS Orphans From Africa
SI's Ben Reiter paints a pretty interesting picture of Phillies ace Cole Hamels. From his days owning the beach volleyball courts in Cali to his minor league kurflufle, Cole seems like a real solid guy. To take that point even further, turns out Cole and Heidi plan on adopting AIDS orphans from Africa.
"We're in the process of adopting an AIDS orphan from Ethiopia," she said. "Maybe two. I'm so pumped. I'd adopt six if I could. When I was five years old—I grew up in a very rural town in Missouri,
and I had never even seen a black person—they asked us to draw a
picture of ourselves in the future, and I drew myself holding hands
with a line of tiny black stick figures. I've always wanted
this." She and Cole are also preparing, under the auspices of the
fledgling Hamels Foundation, to build a girls' school in Malawi.
While the Utleys are known for the charity work with felines, it appears the Hamelses will have their hands full with a few new rugrats in the not too distant future.

Did I just read that? What if his memory is foggy and he ACTUALLY intended the line of stick figures to be smurfs, or E.T.s, or gremlins....?
