Video: McNabb Makes A Sideline Phone Call
Late in the fourth quarter, with the game locked up, Donovan McNabb picked up a phone on the Giants sideline and made a call. "Hello, is this the Tampa Ritz Carlton? I'd like to make a reservation for the first week in February."

That jackhole Troy said "I wonder what goes through his head sometimes." It's not concussions like your career, Sweet Pea.

I'm still convinced he was trying to call into Rush Limbaugh's radio show.

"Hey, Joe Buck, nobody likes you."
If he hasn't realized this by now, he is the most obtuse person in America.
Posted by: Zach | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 05:40 PM
gotta say, i wasn't a big fan of that, especially the timing. God knows a fumble, or int, and that game was close again. I guess there's always gonna be that nervousness of the past, but DAMN THAT WAS A GREAT WIN!
Can't take any game lightly, but these boys look daaaaamn good right now.
Posted by: Kale | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 05:41 PM
shit, if brett favre did that they'd put the phone in the hall of fame.

Just another example of the NFL - No Fun League.
It's a game people. It is supposed to be fun.
I agree that Donovan and the team always seem to play better when he is loose like that. They seem confident that if a play fails they will get them on the next one.
Posted by: TV | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 06:13 PM
15 yards for that??? No Fun League indeed ... must be Coughlin lobbied the refs for that one, too.
Posted by: VermontBirdsFan | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 06:16 PM
10 year veteran QB acting like a 4 year old. Could have cost them. Dumb mistake. How can Mcnabb preach to Jackson and than pull that move? HYPOCRITE.
Posted by: John | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 06:30 PM
Considering how much the Giants, and Giants fans liked to talk shit this year, about how they were the best of the best, and how we were a joke. Not to mention all of the shit Brandon Jacobs had to say a few weeks ago about us being the rising stars... I thought it was perfect.
It made me laugh loudly, and it was just plain Phun. D-Nabb having Phun, means I'm having Phun too.

If T.O. did that, we'd be screaming for his head. It was a stupid move, but a minor one.
The question is which cell phone carrier will turn that into a commercial that will be played ad nauseum during the Super Bowl.

I think there needs to be some type of shirt made to commemorate this victory.

Another week of football is amazing, the tradeoff is another week of that cock-goblin Joe Buck.

It was bushleague and if one of the Giants players had done some kind of foolish stunt like that the same people praising McNabb would be livid.
Posted by: MG | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 09:08 PM
Aikman makes that racist about McNabb not realzing that McNabb suffered though the again racist comment from Rush Limbugh about McNabb a few years ago. I am wondering why Aikman would make a comment like that about McNabb? That comment was racist and unfair!!
Posted by: gordon curvey | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 09:36 PM
Probably something he shouldn't have done, though I was a little surprised he got flagged for it.
"Hey, J-Banner...we should probably sit down, maybe talk a bit of contract extension."

hahaha the people on here actually criticizing mcnabb for this might be the saddest group of people you can find. whats the difference between picking up a phone and punching the goal post (via sikahema)?
Posted by: stevefredericks | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 10:03 PM
Not upset with Donovan, not upset they threw a flag. It certainly was a penalty because he used a prop, but I'm sure that never crossed his mind. I guess you could turn that around and make it negative, but it was a moment, not the same kind predetermined showmanship that the rule was written for.
Posted by: Kulp | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 10:13 PM
MG, mcnabb picking up a phone is bushleague according to what standard? Sort of a far-miss from a middle finger, rude, or classless gesture. If it upsets fans or even the giants, remind the good ol g-men about beating down david akers from the comfort of their sideline. win as a team, lose as a team, beat down kickers as a team. quite a classy standard up there in fairyland.

Awesome move, I loved the Giants around him just staring :]
Bring on the Cards :]
Posted by: flyers18 | Sunday, January 11, 2009 at 11:09 PM
Understand your point will. Let's say more amateurish than bushleague. Just didn't understand why McNabb felt the need to do that with the game in hand. Just a distraction that the media would play up and take away from what McNabb did on the field today.
Posted by: MG | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 12:26 AM
I don't think it was classless or anything, I just don't really think it's funny. Not in an offended way, in an I don't see how it's funny way. I'm all for comedy in football...I just think Donovan frequently makes bad jokes, and I put this among them.
Posted by: Andy | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 12:27 AM
mg, that might be the way donovan likes it. attention on him whether its bad or good. since the media firestorm about him not 'knowing' about the tie a couple weeks before thanksgiving, we've lost twice.

Hey Joe, Buck you. Can someone tell what was up with those leather gloves he was rocking in the booth? Trying to put a little Michael Jackson?

Joe Buck and Aikman are like a black hole of charisma and sports knowledge.

Donovan didn't know he wasn't allowed to pick up the phone.
Posted by: ill | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 09:19 AM
McNabb was having fun and excited over the win. get over it.
Posted by: Scott B | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 09:53 AM
I think that if a Giant had done it we as Eagles fans would not have been happy but compared to some of the shit that football players do and have done McNabb picking up the phone was pretty minuscule. It's not like he did it with malicious intent to rub it in the Giant's face or bring attention to himself. I think that the Giants know that which is why it wasn't a big deal. I am all for sportsmanship and being a gracious winner and I know that Donovan is too.
This is Donavon McNabb we are talking about. The man doesn't have a malicious or evil bone in his body. He loves life and enjoys having fun. With all the crap that we and the media give him he is more then allowed to be a goofball.

Hey, Joe Buck, nobody likes you.
Truer words have never been spoken. Fortunately, I scored 2 tickets to Sunday's NFC title game, thus sparing me (and my friend) the pain of having to listen to Joe Buck's intolerable whinning.

Article on ESPN.com this morning. The main picture was McNabb with the phone . . .
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=3825769&sportCat=nfl
A quote from the article:
Yet, here they are. They're so loose that McNabb, after running out of bounds on the Giants' sideline, picked up a coaches press box phone behind the New York bench and held it to his ear.
"I didn't say anything,'' said McNabb. "I'm out there having a great time in this run. It's something as a veteran I shouldn't have done. I kind of got caught up in the moment a little bit."
Can you blame him? In mid-November, after the tie at Cincy and the following week's blowout loss at Baltimore, the Eagles were a green mess. Now they're a win away from Super Bowl XLIII.

Typical classless Philly...
Posted by: Anti-Eli | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 10:47 AM
I thought McNabb's sideline "phone call" was a bit tasteless and uncalled for, and I am in no way shape or form picking on McNabb, I just believe that such actions, which are completely uncalled for and completely idiotic, should be banned from the NFL...I say enact a new rule for '09, anyone who gets penalized for such b.s. is immediately thrown outta the game, no questions asked...I detest such actions as much as I detest seeing any player "celebrate" on the field after making a play...too often you see player "celebrate" after making a tackle after a 4 yard gain, or after a wide receiver makes one catch for 6 yards...
Posted by: btezra | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 01:59 PM
This is a non-issue. He apologized for it and said a veteran player should not put his team in a bad position with stupid penalties.
He got caught up in the moment and it wasn't particularly funny, but compared to the shit that Chad Johnson and T.O. do, it was nothing.
To the poster above who wants harsher punishment for things of this nature, I say no way. Sports are GAMES, and should be first and foremost, FUN. This is why our society has become so competitive over them, because everyone is taking the fun out of the game. If you get up in someone's face, like DeSean Jackson did the week before, that's unsportsmanlike for sure, but picking up a phone or a sharpie? Where's the harm in that, really? It might piss off the other team, but if that's what you need to motivate you to beat another team when the game is on the line, perhaps you should find a different line of work.

"i detest seeing players celebrate after making a play."
do you detest players smiling after victories, or coaches hugging after a championship?
jesus, btezra, dont hate the world. the man picked up a phone and put it down. what a jerk! KICK HIM OUT OF THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!
Posted by: stevefredericks | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 03:26 PM
Other players have done worse things, but it was uneccessary, I mean no place for that kinda stuff in the playoffs.
Posted by: BFisch | Monday, January 12, 2009 at 04:32 PM
I thought it was hilarious. McNabb is a goofball. That is who he is. Either appreciate it or shut up. He doesn't throw up gang signs, he's just goofy. Love it, love him, always support him. McNabb is the best QB that Philly ever had and anyone who bashes him is a moron. Who else are you going to get... there's only one Peyton and one Brady.
Great job Don.

Anti-Eli, youre right. Philadelphia is classless. We should take a page out of New Yorks classy handbook. Get off your horse, cry baby.
For anyone to make this an issue just exposes what poor sport they really are. Yeah, i detest ridiculous celebrations as well, but to catagorize picking up a sideline phone in the form of sarcasm on the same level 'horrible acts of celebration' to which you morons speak of is rich with humor. You are not the social police. You are a dickhead with a computer trying to articulate your second place views. grow a pair. selfrighteous is an awkward way to go through life. take your phoney soft R's back to north jersey. peace fuckers.
