After watching that, Brown has to extend the ball over his head and pray there. What's the worst that happens? They knock the ball out, and the Eagles lose.
This is not meant to absolve anyone else of their share of the blame for the loss.

Freddie Mitchell would have converted that play

I can watch that over and over!!

that was some great awareness on the D's part. damn.

That was some shitty awareness on Reggie Brown's part.
Maybe benching him for the past two weeks was a good thing.
Posted by: Walklett | Sunday, December 21, 2008 at 10:54 PM
So is Andy going to bench Brown next week to teach him a lesson, then just start him the following week???
Oh, Oh wait....... guess not...
16 games, 4 hours a game, the eagles owe me 64 hours of my life back.

I think this play answers Reggie's question of why he hasn't played at all. To clarify: you suck!
And on the topic of sucking, get lost Dale, you only pop up when your team does well. Didn't see much of you when the Craps were getting beat. Seriously, if you're a real fan you take your lumps if you're going to troll. I don't have a problem with that but when you go run and hide so you don't have to hear it that's total puss work.
PS-I don't see any playoffs for the Skins either....I see last place.

Hey BadMutherFutley-
He didn't know where he was on the field is what he explained to D-Gunn after the game. He thought he was in the end-zone. Its a damn shame.

No way does any of this get pegged on brown. He played decently considering he had been a healthy scratch 2 weeks in a row. Blame Desean for 4 drops, including a 45 yard pass and a sure game-tying touchdown. Jackson catches that last one in the endzone and we don't have these issues

football 101: run the ball, and when its really cold run it more.

For the record, I deleted a comment that made light of Sean Taylor's death. Not cool people.

All truthfulness about Reggie Brown sucking aside, there is no way they let him catch that ball in the end zone.
Posted by: Kulp | Monday, December 22, 2008 at 12:52 AM
Um, he wasn't tackled at the 1 yard line. He was tackled at the 5 yard line. The spot of the ball is the location of the ball when two feet, one knee, or one elbow touches the ground and the player has possession of the ball. The fact that the ball was at the 1 yard line has absolutely zero to do with the spot because the receiver was in the air.
Have people learned nothing since last week?
Posted by: guyinthecorner | Monday, December 22, 2008 at 03:20 AM
@guyinthecorner: It's called "forward progress." Watch where the ref puts his foot down to mark the ball, clearly it's about a yard out.
Posted by: Enrico | Monday, December 22, 2008 at 03:25 AM
No, it's not. It's only forward progress if you lose ground after you've established position. In the NFL, nothing is anything until you have possession with two feet down. That is the rule. The exception to this rule was the force-out rule but it was abolished to make this more simple.
If you remember the ruling of the ref last week in Pitt/Balt he said the receiver had two feet down with possession of the ball. The reason the ref was wrong there was that by the time he had possession and feet down the ball wasn't across the plane.
I understand the ref was putting his foot down. My point was that the ref was wrong. Read the rule book. You'll see I'm right.

I'm a Steelers fan and I agree with guyinthecorner. The refs were wrong to give the Yinzers the TD at the end of the Baltimore game.
Peg the Eagles loss on Jackson for the drops, and McNabb for continuing to throw short. Oh, and LJ Smith might be the worst TE in the league this year.

at this point ill take consolation in playing spoiler for the cowgirls
as much of a stinker that was by mcnabb, if reid cant "put him in a situation to succeed" you gotta get rid of big red this off season.
further pain for me is that the would-have-been-td cost me $240 in my fantasy championship. 4 fantasy pts for mcnabb, what a joke

Reggie Brown you are an idiot, end of story. You got to be in the end zone on that play. That was one time when a drop would have been acceptable. It would have given us one more shot
Posted by: bOB | Monday, December 22, 2008 at 10:32 AM
When Westbrook only gets 16 touches in a must-win game, you deserve to lose. I'm glad I didn't have to see that last play in person, I was already warming up the car in the parking lot.

One thing that is being glossed over here is that timeout they blew early in the 3rd quarter. Once again, we are robbed of a chance to tie a game or pull ahead by early failures with clock management.
Reid needs to go. I think this game was illustrative of that point.

Forget the McNabb leaving garbage. If you haven't seen that he gives us the best chance to win then you are blind. This loss yesterday was not his fault. Blame the receivers for dropping pass after pass, especially DeSean. I have loved the kid, but I was disgusted with his play last night. I know he's only a rookie, but if he wants to be the number one guy for this team, he needs to make those catches, especially when the ball is dropped into his hands.
However, I really am not sure how I feel about Reid staying or going. I know that everyone is calling for his head and I have done it several times, but short of bringing in Bill Cowher, I can't say that I want anyone at the helm. Yes, Josh McDaniel and Steve Spagnuolo are great names, but they have no head coaching experience. Plus, this offense has been pretty explosive over the last decade if you look at the numbers. New coach = new offense for everyone, including McNabb who has had the benefit of playing under one philosophy for 10 years. People seem to forget how difficult learning a new offense/defense can be.
If you want to call for Reid's head then feel free because you have every right too, but don't forget how hard it is to find a decent head coach in this league and the elaborate, organization shaking changes that come with a coach's firing.

And I forgot to put this...
If Reid goes, will Jim Johnson stay? Because if he does leave, then I am highly worried, seeing as this defense is thriving with a bunch of young players, especially in that second level.
