Tonight: Flyers Versus Lightning. On Versus.
We've already discussed the awkward homecoming of sorts that will happen at the Wachovia Center tonight, when Rick Tocchet coaches a Tampa Bay Lightning team that includes former Flyer "Free" Steve Downie.
The action will be on the Versus network, attracting a national audience (ie, the Philadelphia market plus ~147 other people). The Flyers have dropped two straight after winning six in a row and are looking to get back on track, while the Lightning have won only three times in the past month. Still, in the age of NHL parity, no team can be taken lightly.
Opposing Players to Watch: Downie. Will trade-revenge be on his mind? I've always wondered what it'd be like to have our guys play against him, and tonight we'll find out. Also, Marty St. Louis and Vincent Lecavalier. Obviously. These guys can go off as well as any duo in hockey, and the Flyers' blueliners will need to blanket them all night.

Five minute boarding call on Upshall?? Complete crap.
I guess the league has decided to keep that Broad St. Bully stigma alive and well for the national audience on Versus.
Should we be expecting a suspension as well?

Anyone know why Matt Carle isn't in the lineup?

Holy fuck...Downie nets the game tying goal.
Revenge is a bitch.

awful way to end regulation, but at least Marty got some PS warmups in.

It's gonna be a long throw now from the end of the bench, Hartnell. Hasn't he been sat down once already this year? Jesus.

Damn. Anyone know how he got hurt? Thats got to be karma or something. Carle is a late scratch and Downie scores the game tying goal.
Hartnell is a lucky bastard . . . so dumb! If they loose this game I will be so pissed.
Posted by: Mitch | Tuesday, December 02, 2008 at 09:39 PM
Apparently he won't be benched for being a jackass, only playing like shit...he started overtime.
Posted by: MikeY | Tuesday, December 02, 2008 at 09:41 PM
Funny thing is that I think Hartnell has been one of the best Flyers all night. He has had good pace and brought a lot of energy to cycling in the corners.
I just pray this doesn't go to a shootout! Hate them . . . Let's get this on the Power play!

God these announcers are awful. All they can talk about is stupid penalties and how "quiet" the crowd is. If i wasn't stuck in Boston only being able to watch these games I would just skip watching whenever they were on VS

I love you Mike Richards

What a shot Richie...whoo!
Nice pass by Timo as well...way to go Fly-guys.
Also, a neat little side note, Tampa's goals were scored by Recchi, Downie and Prospal...all former Flyers.
