Someone told me today that for the past few years Amaro was pretty much running the show instead of Gillick. That Gillick was brought in just because at the time the Phils needed to hire from the outside as opposed to someone they already had. We fans would have been outraged at the time if they hired Amaro after Wade. But I heard that Gillick was pretty much just showing Amaro the ropes knowing he would retire soon. I guess thats good.
And also, as someone pointed out in the eagles game thread, if you want a good laugh check out metsblog.com. Funny stuff.

Boooooo! I have absolutely nothing to back up my feelings on this, but I don't like this move at all.

I'm with Phunyan on this. Amaro, to me, is just some kid who's played a little ball and was involved in negotiations for years. Many people can negotiate with big stars and their agents, it's all about market analysis and what the traffic will bear. But TRUE good GMs make their money on judging talent, and throughout the reigns on Gillick and previously Wade, the person who picked Utley, Myers, Howard, Hamels and Rollins among others was Arbuckle. If the Phillies had picked him, Amaro would have stayed on as basically I doubt many other organizations would have picked him up. Instead, the Phils picked Amaro, and Arbuckle wants the GM job, so he'll leave.
Still....free pass for the Phils until, well, whenever. Winning a World Series will do that for you.

Let's keep it easy on the negative feelings until at least Memorial Day next year. C'mon, we knew Gillick wasn't hanging around for very long.
