Quotable: Marty Mornhinweg on Eagles Offense
Via Eagletarian:
Was five carries in the first half enough to justify the extent to which the Eagles abandoned the run in Cincinnati (18 runs, 60 called passes)?
"No," Mornhinweg said. "You make a good point. You're right. It's not enough."
Mornhinweg was asked if it would make sense to play Correll Buckhalter more, with Brian Westbrook banged up.
"You're right," he said. "It does make sense."
I have nothing to add.

Those comments alone should be enough for this ownership to realize that things need to be shaken up. Coordinators or coaches should never be in the position of saying these types of things. And after what Jonathan Joseph said, the Eagles are clearly not as good as they think they are. His quote was:
"From watching film, other teams in the league have been successful against them," said Joseph, who recorded one of the three Bengals interceptions and tallied three pass defenses during the 13-13 tie. "They may have a lot of yards or whatever, but teams have been successful getting them off the field. They have tendencies you can pick up on and you have a good idea of what's going on."
And these guys are supposed to be offensive gurus? I have never been one to call for a coach's/manager's job because I think that for the most part, it's the players who should be at fault when a team sucks since they are on the field. But this case is different, and Reid needs to go. Thanks for the years and all of the playoff runs, but it's time for something new.

If you look closely, you can see where Reid puts his hand into Marty's back to make his mouth move.

I didn't see any of the press conferences this week. Did Reid say "I've got to put my guys in a better position to win the game"?
I love when he says that.

i interperet this as "andy reid calls the plays, not me".
if that's the case, reid needs to concede some power. he cannot be gm, head coach, and calling the plays.
not unless he has the help of tyler durden.

youre right it makes sense to call a flea flicker at least once a game.

so what he's saying is that the press are capable of calling plays?

the level of lack of confidence the fans have in the coaching staff and players is only matched by the actual players and coaching staff's attitude at this point

Reporter: "Marty, would you say that you body is composed primarily of cookie dough and desperation?"
Marty: "You're right. That does makes sense."
Reporter #2: "Don't you think it's poor judgment by a coach to give possession of the ball to the other team after winning the coin toss in overtime? Furthermore, shouldn't that coach's head be dipped in some kind of preservative wax, so that future generations of coaches can study the cavernous expanse it contains?"
Marty: "You make a good point."
Reporter #3: "Jesus, Marty, did you pile enough macaroni on that plate in front of you? I think I can still make out the edges."
Marty: "You're right. It's not enough."

In my ongoing mental tape labelled McNabb, Donovan, one play is often rewound and run again. The very last game ever at the Vet. Bucs-Iggles, NFC Championship game. Bucs took care of business early and often. 4th quarter- McNabb throws strike.....into the arms of Ronde Barber. Who said in effect- well, I just saw a lot of game tape on him. He telegraphs plays with his eyes. I just followed his eyes and reacted accordingly. May not totally define the man's career. But no significant improvement since that game. Perhaps not ever.

In the "no-dissent" Eagles camp, particularly as that has applied to the coaches, this is a very telling quote, as terse as it may be.
I definitely think this was him saying "you're right, Andy's calling all the plays, and he's doing a really bad job." Marty doesn't want to take credit for this offense's play calling - and you have to imagine that's because he's not doing this offense's play calling.

so after reading this are we still not supposed to rip and curse the Eagles organization for the garbage they are putting on the field?
im just wondering because this is the type of thing that makes me want to use the F word a lot.

I feel horrible for this guy, he has to prep the offense for all the plays all week and then he just sits back and Andy basically is getting him fired (either some week soon or at the end of the season) by that horrific play calling. There is no way Marty has called a single offensive play this season.
