Phillies Only Winners at Eagles SNF Loss to New York Giants
Phillies leftfielder Pat Burrell and pitcher Cole Hamels took part in the pregame coin toss and received a loud ovation from the crowd at the Linc. They received another ovation with 6 minutes, 45 seconds left in the first quarter when they were introduced a second time after the Eagles congratulated the 2008 World Series champions on both giant end-zone scoreboards.
In addition to Burrell and Hamels, vice president-elect Joe Biden was in attendance, sitting in owner Jeffrey Lurie's private box.
Perhaps Andy Reid should have thought about using Pat Burrell last night. They certainly could have used the offense.

Andy Reid should either resign, or be fired by tomorrow morning. Horrible play calling, horrible challenges, and horrible clock management.
This was just pathetic. Just like all the losses this season, we could have won, but we choke.
How long to spring training?

Honestly, I can't wait to root for a football team with a real coach. It's one thing if these were new mistakes, but it's the same stuff we've been dealing with for TEN YEARS: bad play calling, worse clock management.
I love Andy Reid, and I love what he's done for us, but we're not going to get over the hump with him. He is a coach who was geared towards winning in the West Coast Offense oriented NFL and this is an NFL that's geared towards a power running game.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Charlie Manuel, manager of the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies, inquired about the availability of head coaching the Philadelphia Eagles for the rest of the season.
Team President Jeffrey Lurie was unavailable for comment.

Pedal to the metal!
Thanks for sealing up any doubt that Philadelphia is now a baseball town!

The Eagles are a mediocre team playing in a good division and coached by a man who has ALWAYS shriveled up on gameday. The Phillies World Series win has somewhat tempered my attention to the Eagles, but also assisting that is the simple fact that no team that is coached by Andy Reid will ever win a Super Bowl.

You know, I've been a Reid apologist all season. I admitted that he should have maybe called some QB sneaks earlier in the season, but in general I've been pretty reluctant to pin any blame on him. It's not so much the play-calling, I reasoned, as the execution.
But that's out the window after tonight. Nothing about that game was a guaranteed win, especially at the end, but Reid it was thoroughly winnable. But Andy didn't give the team a chance to win. If you're going to call any kind of rush in a third- or fourth-and-short, you need at least one of the following things: a dominant power RB who can just plow through the line, a dominant offensive line that can open holes at will, a spread field that threatens a pass to pull defenders out of the box, or to be playing against a weak defensive line. None of those things were true tonight. We're not the Giants: we don't have Jacobs. We're not the Saints; we don't have McAllister. We're not even the Ravens; we don't even have McClain. Our O-line has been good but by no means dominant; Big Red didn't spread the field. And the Giants have a very strong front. With a passing game that had been successful in this game, there was no excuse for two straight called rushes. None.
I was still on the fence in terms of crucifying him until NBC showed the following stat: on 3rd- or 4th-and-1 this season, the Eagles are 5 for 14 (now 15) when running; 3 for 3 when passing. If that's really the case, considering how successful our passing had been, there's no excuse whatsoever for a run there. None whatsoever. I'm not calling for his resignation or firing, but this MUST get better. This is a good team, but tonight, Reid didn't give them a chance to show it.

it's like what I said to my friends tonight while we were watching this debacle...."So what. We won the World Series."
I have not been able to get into any other sports yet...I have more interest in the Phillies hot stove reports than the Eagles and Sixers combined....I still watch the Flyers feverishly!

I DONT WANT TO HEAR THAT WESTBROOK IS THE BEST BACK IN THE LEAGUE ANYMORE HE IS ALWAYS HURT AND HE CANT GET 2 YARDS WHEN IT MATTERED WHAT A JOKE
Posted by: LOL | Monday, November 10, 2008 at 12:28 AM
The only thing I would ask you Saul, is are you actually expecting things to change? Clearly it needs to get better, but what should lead us to believe it actually will.

EAGLES SIDELINE...2 MINUTES TO GO DOWN BY 6...
Random Assistant Coach: Coach Reid, we need a play, it's 4th and 1 and we need a first down!
Andy Reid: *Silence*
RAC: WE NEED A PLAY!
AR: *grumbles* I'll have a number 2...
RAC: What?
AR: ...with extra large fries and a jumbo soda...
RAC: Fucking fatass!
AR: Who are you calling a dumb bass?
RAC: WE NEED A PLAY!
AR: Oh, fuck...ummm just run it up the middle I guess.
FIRE REID!

Dude you can't blame westbrook for his injuries or the fact that they brought eight guys into the box and always had multiple people on him specifically. If anything your beef should be with Klecko who missed a block on that play. Westbrook is out there busting his ass with hurt ribs, which I couldn't even imagine doing with football. If you are gonna yell at him and blame him for that run you should just stop watching football. Its too bad he wasn't 8 inches taller and 60 pounds heavier so he can push multiple guys downfield.

I'll be the first to say I was not happy with the execution in tonight's game...As much as we hate the Giants, They are a real good team and for the most part we hung tough and had alot to build from.
That being said....
-Our lack of a fullback continues to kill us.
-We didn't even attempt to establish any sort of running game until we needed it.
-Andy's man Crush on LJ Smith is mind boggling. Dude's a bum, Celek showed promise last week even against a piss poor Seattle team and Andy refuses to go to the hot hand.
-Our Run Defense was horrific.
-Eli's pass was forward of the line of scrimmage.
On a positive note:
- Number 5 didn't get sacked 12 times
- Jackson looked good when Number 5 wasn't forcing it into double coverage.
- We put alot of points up on a very good defense.
- The remainder of the season is full of tough matchups, but all the teams are beatable....If Dallas continues to implode and the Redskins aren't as legit as everyone thought...then it will be down to the wire. Nothing like a meaningful week 17 game to win and roll into the playoffs with momentum. I wouldn't get my hopes up, but the season is not quite over. We loose next week to the Bengals and we can put a fork in it.

yeah good point about the run defense that was a joke. Jim Johnson is suppose to be the best defensive cordinator in the league and he could not come up with something to stop the run
And get rid of Mcnabb he has no heart he could of ran another play before the 2 minute warning but didn't because he was tired just like the Superbowl
Let the Kolb Era begin!!!!!!

Third toughest schedule the rest of the way for the Eagles.
8-8.

Eagles Season Was Doomed Before it Began...
I blame management for not looking at the division and recognizing what the Eagles needed to be successful. All of the teams in the division have great running games and massive offensive lines. To stop Jacobs, Marion Barber, and Portis, you need run-stuffers on the DL and at LB. The Eagles have been pushed around all season by all of the above. Management did not go out and address this need.
We also did not get any playmakers for Donovan. DeSean Jackson is very good. He was great at Cal but he is rookie. Where is the bigtime WR? Where is a RB that can spell Westbrook who cannot survive an entire season. Booker was not the answer. Shaun Alexander was available...
This team is at a crossroads. We're still good enough to sneak into the playoffs but more than likely we will go 9-7 and miss the playoffs based on division/conference record. It will be a brutal off season but OL needs to be upgraded. DL needs a run-stuffing tackle. Need another run-stuffing LB and a safety to replace Dawkins. Love BD but he looks lost and a step slow.
It's hard to get too bent out of shape about the Eagles. They are 5-4, could be 7-2 if not for some horrendous play-calling on short yardage situations (i.e. tonight and goal line calls at Chicago) by Andy Reid. He seems to have lost it. Time to return to basics and get back to dominating the line of scrimmage on both the OL and DL. No Worries. World F-ing Champions!!!

Also, lets not even get into the line of scrimmage debate. The second replay with an accurate red line at the sticks show Eli's foot behind the LOS. If you want to debate a call, debate the pseudo-facemask. Let's not make excuses, this team was doomed by terrible coaching and decision making.

I am done with Mcnabb after he was laughing after the game. What a slap in the fan's face. Get in shape buddy.

I only wish I had a job like Andy's where no matter what shitty decisions I make, I'm NEVER held accountable by management.
I'm sure he'll put those players in better positions next week.....fuck him and fuck lurie for not having the balls to call him out.

Agreed. I said that last night. Eli Manning may be a tool, but he pouts--i.e., isn't happy with losing. Donovan? Well, I get the feeling he's happy to be paid, show up, go home, rinse, repeat.
