World Series Game Five, Part II: Let Us Finish the Game
You know, sometimes the sequel is better than the original.
Most of us have waited our entire lives to witness a championship in the city of Philadelphia. One extra long rain delay won't tarnish what the Phillies will try to accomplish tonight.
The task at hand is simple. The Phillies are nine outs away from setting this town ablaze. The fans at Citizens Bank Park will show up to instant drama. There's no reason we shouldn't be the absolute loudest fans that place has ever seen. Tonight, Philadelphia will get loud.
The tactics in this 3.5 inning completion of game 5 of the 2008 World Series will be extremely interesting and forever second guessed. If the Phils win, Charlie is a genius. And that's pretty much all we're gonna talk about.
Most are thinking you run So Taguchi or Geoff Jenkins out to lead off depending on who Joe Maddon decides to walk out to the mound.
For the Phils, it could be Ryan Madson who has had blistering stuff or it could be someone else. We'll find out soon.
A real life Philadelphia hero can be made tonight by winning in the sequel. Maybe FOX can walk out that song they've been playing all series when it could finally be fitting.
Wouldn't it be nice to see Pat get in on the action.
I'm on my way to watch a baseball game. I hope it's the Phillies' last one of the season.
Let's do this.

It would be great if Pat finally made his contribution in THIS series, TONIGHT.

Actually shaking a bit in anticipation of this moment. I'm 33 and have been going to Phils games since 1982. Insanity.

On ESPN's Gamecast chat with Neyer:
"Nate (MN): Has there ever been a walk off HR to win the World Series?
ROB NEYER: Just slightly over 15 years ago, Toronto's Joe Carter did it against the Phillies. And in 1960, Bill Mazeroski in Game 7 against the Yankees."
SERIOUSLY? Are we the only knowledgeable fans in baseball? Douche

Jenkins:
Ought to be enshrined in the -- MMMM -- Hall of Fame!
Posted by: Phils Phan | Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 08:48 PM
Jenkins might have been nuts enough to run there if he caught it. No matter, though. We need three more. Three goddamn more, god damn it...
Posted by: Mike H. | Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at 08:49 PM
So much for everybody on the radio talking about lost ticket stubs and maybe not a full house. Place looks packed.
