Saturday Extras: Phils in the Good Land, Flyers Trim, Eagles Injury Reports, and... the Wells Fargo Center?

Later today, the Phils will look to close out the divisional series with the Brewers. Up 2-0 in a best-of-5, there are still some questions about the hitting, with all of the Phillies' runs coming in two of the 16 innings they've come to the plate. I'm still falling on the side of, "they're winning, and the pitching has been great, so there's no need in bitching." The meat of the order will come around, hopefully tonight, so we don't have the conflict of Phillies playoff baseball and Eagles-Redskins tomorrow at 1. Onto to the links...

  • The Inq provides a guide to Milwaukee for Phillies fans. Oddly, it's not Phils beat writer/Milwaukee native Todd Zolecki who penned it. Derrick Nunnally may have consulted him though.
  • One guy Flyers fans want to see more of is young winger Claude Giroux. Not gonna happen for awhile, unless you go see the Phantoms. Earlier in the week, John Stevens said Giroux was doing "just okay," and since he's not a candidate for a checking line role (like the one Steve Downie took last season), he'll start the season at the Spectrum. Injuries or ineffective play could see him back in the bigs at some point this season though.
  • Wondering where to watch the game to keep up the playoff atmosphere while the Phils are in Siberia? McFaddens is open and putting on a viewing event.
  • The Eagles would like to remind you that it's football season too (although I'm sure they don't mind getting a bit of a break on that Bears loss due to everyone focusing on the Phils). Brian Westbrook is practicing but questionable, Shawn Andrews is dOUbTful, LJ and Donovan should play, and Curtis might even get in for a small package (I'd be surprised). It will be interesting to see how the passing game changes when the WR1 returns. Is Reggie now the 4, having been permanently passed by Hank Baskett and DJax? What does it mean for Jackson's role?
  • Speaking of DeSean... Paul Domowitch has already begun the Holdout Watch, suggesting that if the rookie's success continues, his camp will be beating down the front office door for a new deal. I say let that call go to VM. Jackson slipped on draft day for a reason, and we've already seen that he's not out of the woods yet. Domo points out that Jackson is on pace for a lofty pace in Eagles history (albeit, without Kevin Curtis on the field).

"At his current pace, Jackson would catch 88 passes, which would tie him with Irving Fryar for the second most receptions in a season in franchise history, two behind Brian Westbrook, who caught 90 last season. His projected 1,308 yards would be the third most in Eagles history behind Mike Quick's 1,409 (in 1983) and Fryar's 1,316 (in 1997). And, oh yeah, he's also 10th in the league in punt return average."

In any case, we've heard nothing from Jackons in this regard, and it's way early to start the circus music.

  • Adding to the absurdity of naming our stadiums and arenas after banks, Wells Fargo is bidding on the previously assumed-sold Wachovia assets, much to the chagrin of Citigroup. Love the new buildings, hate the corporate names.
  • Probably the best sweater ever. Is there anything you love more than old timers who LOVE the Phillies?
  • This might be the luckiest timing I've ever had on a picture:

i was at a bar in princeton last night when i heard a couple kids talking about the mets and the sox, so i was talking with them for a lil, when the mets fan asked me who i liked, when i told him phillies, he called a frontrunner, so i went after him only to have my buddies pull me away, just another reason to hate the mets and their fans. GO PHILS!!!

Fuck Boston
OJ is innocent
GO PHILS!!!!!

This Westbrook shit is becoming a yearly ritual

Anyone else seriously intrigued when you read "Flyers trim". I must say I was expecting something totally different.
