I'm really glad to be able to see that shot of Broad St. lookin up at Billy Penn now for as beautiful of an image of Philly as it is. For too long that statue haunted us all. Can't wait till friday. I may just make my trip down from NYC tomorrow I'm so anxious.
I cried at the game. Then I booed Bud Selig along with everyone else. Then I cried some more. Then I walked from the stadium the entire way to City Hall. Then I went in a bar and drank my face off. Now I am home drunk posting and I love it.
I just got home from this incredible night. Being at the game was fantastic. So loud, so emotional, the best experience of my life. I'm 29, I was a year old when they won the 80 series, so this was a first for me like it was for so many others. Tonight, I hugged grown men I never met before. I screamed with an usher who was crying uncontrollably. I cried some too in between the laughing and jumping up and down. I roamed the streets of South Philadelphia for hours, Broad and Oregon and its surroundings, slapping hands with countless hundreds of people I again never met and never will again. No more curses, no more being called perennial losers, no more wondering what it would feel like to be winners. We're the WORLD CHAMPIONS, and no one can take that away. Greatest. night. of. my. life. See you Friday for the parade on Broad Street.
I am a Philly-grown fan on the West Coast (LA) but tonight I felt like I was in South Philly having the most amazing sports experience of my 23-year life. I spent this entire week partying with 200 Phillies fans all eating cheesesteaks and drenched with champagne. I still cannot believe how amazing of a year this has been for my Phightin Phils!
This last week has been absolutely surreal. Watching the Phils win Game 3 in dramatic fashion in Center City with my brother and several of our friends was amazing. The next night simply got better and we realized the Phils were 27 outs from something no Philadelphia major sports team had done in 25 years. After the rain delay, I was ridiculously pissed off. I thought Monday night was supposed to be the best night of my life. That didn't happen. Instead it happened two days later and frankly, it was just as incredible. I've never felt so close to the city I grew up in, the people that live in it, and the people I know and love from my very beginnings. This was something special and I'm glad I could be part of it. I can't wait til the parade so I can show the players themselves how much I personally respect what they've done for this city. This has been absolutely awesome...
To you, to every fan, to every person in the lineup, to every person on the scout teams, the minor league teams, the front office, top to bottom.
To Harry, who finally got to call a World Series Game-something MLB broadcast rules prevented him from in 1980-and a Phillies championship.
To everyone looking down on us from above who helped us along the way-your grandmother, June, Pope, Tugger, Vuke, Marzano, and Whitey, and all of our relatives out there who didn't make it to see a champion.
To finally being able to say that I love this town...and that it finally feels like it loves me back.
To the past 28 years, for making us strong, but mostly for making this all the sweeter.
I've spent all night trying to find the right words, but the only and best I can come up with is simply:
I seriously hope the destruction on broad was not as intense as I read...fuck the national media. The phils are champs. been to the art museaum twice. tuck pepole mange apslgjea..
As a Lifetime Phillies fan to the Phillies themselves.......thank you on a job well done but to my 8yr old grandson Justin, THANK YOU VERY MUCH not only for the S/N you see on this post but for re-kindling that "Inferno of passion" for this team. I can't wait to hear his "call of the game." I know Harry Kallas is the "voice of the Phillies" on television but in his own little world, you haven't heard a game called until you hear Justin give you the play-by-play!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH for showing your PopPop just what it takes and how to go about starting that fire once again. Oh the warmth feels soooooo good!!!
Us Just Did. Can't wait to see you all tomorrow when I can get out of DC and celebrate with all yous.
Sheridan's story got me a little choked up this morning:
"Remember the other, uncountable losses: the loved ones buried in their red caps and Eagles sweatshirts, the fathers and mothers, spouses and friends who didn't make it to this day. Even the die-hards die in time.
Remember the older loved ones you weren't sure would live to see it. Make a call. Give out hugs. Bask in this with the people who matter most."
BEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE. NO. QUESTIONS. ASKED.
