Mike Richards Is My Captain and Yours.
In a move that will likely surprise no one, mostly because we all agree it's the right one, the Flyers have announced that Mike Richards will be the team's next captain. After a few short-lived terms watered down the legacy of the Philly captaincy to some degree, Richards is the franchise player, the on-ice example, the face of the Flyers already, so we can expect to see the C on his chest for a long time, perhaps even a decade.

This move was so painfully obvious, it had to happen. Let's hope he avoids the other dreaded C that seems to follow our captains around.

you gotta assume clause # 1 listed in the 100+ year, lifetime contract he got was..."oh yeah, you're the captain."

Whoa, why are they comments posting up instead of down now?

Oh, now their in regular order...that was weird.

OK< so about the actual post...You knew this was going to happen, it was his fate after he broke out last year.
Nice to see Hatch is going to start the season on the LTIR list, we'll be almost under the cap now.
As for the Poll, I pick: A
Richie has proven he can play, and has been rewarded with a 12 year contract and the captency. DeSean, is noce, but he's only played 2 games. Cole probably will be in about 2 years, but not yet. And umm...I can't really comment on Iguodala because I don't follow basketball.

I ordered an authentic jersey last season with Richards' name and number on it and just because I had a good feeling about it, I put the C on it anyway.
He's a great player and will be the face of this organization for years to come.
Great decision!

12 year deal, now the Captain. Mike Richards is pretty damn awesome.
(now all he needs to do is lead us to a Stanley Cup-before a certain Crybaby does)
GO FLYERS!

Great news! And yes, the very obvious choice.
@DLo34:
Richards is my favorite out of that group, followed by Cole, then Desean (so long as he doesn't prematurely celebrate anymore touchdowns!), then Iguodola.

I got my dad a Richards jersey last year and I purposely requested there be no letter on it because Richards only had the A at the time. And what do you know, it was mailed to me with an A on it. I now I am in the exact dilemma I tried to avoid.

This will solidify this team the way that Clarke did during his playing days. It may open up some ice for Richards and also, and not for the whinning, put him in the watchful eyes of the officiating, the way that Crosby seems to get the attention.

@ Adam
You can easily get that A switched to a C either at the Center during a game, or send it to the website icejerseys.com.
