Mike Richards Had Himself a Nice Little Saturday

Saturday's preseason showdown between the Flyers and Hurricanes was about as good as meaningless hockey can get. First, on the theatrical, emotional level, the Flyers came back to the Spectrum ice for the first time in over a decade, and the penultimate time ever. They paraded most of the captains out for a pregame ceremony, culminating when Mr. Snider handed Mike Richards his captaincy. Via the Puck Father:

How's that for a passing of the baton? No pressure, Richie.

There were a few good fights, a high-scoring game, and the crowd went nuts around the old jumbotron with the huge dot-matrix images.

Later, we'd watch the Phils clinch the NL East title, and on the field, I swear I saw the new Flyers captain.

Earlier that day, he'd scored 2 short-handed goals, and now he was celebrating with the Phillies. We have confirmation that he was at the game with some teammates, but all I could manage to cap was the shot below.

Sasquatch may or may not also have been there.

I enjoyed seeing Hugh Douglas on the field during the post-game interviews, just lurking..

yes mike richards, you are the man.

The Mike goes out and scores two incredible shorthanded goals that ended up being the difference in the game.

Looks like I'm going to need to be purchasing a #18 Flyers jersey here soon...

I liked the part when Rod Brind'Amour and Eric Lindros hugged it out.

Oh...

That's Steve Eminger next to him, probably whispering in his ear about his power play time. Both of them, along with Upshall & Timonen were in McFaddens for the first 5 innings. Good inter-city team support from the Flyers.

The Flyers skated at the Spectrum as visitors against the Phantoms in a fundraiser for Dmitri Tertyshny in the fall on 1999, I believe.

@ Ben F

Yep, mark me down from one. I'm going to wait for the Orange Vintage 3rd jersey.
