DeSean Jackson Has A History of Premature Celebrations
Tough loss. Not the end of the world. More on that later.
But DeSean Jackson's premature celebration was simply horrible. And as the ESPN crew informed us, it's not the first time. According to the Dallas News Cowboys blog:
He had an unforgettable gaffe as a high school senior in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, when he decided to flip into the end zone for an easy score. Only problem was he took off at about the 6 ... and landed at the 2.An image and video of what appears to be DeSean's failed celebration before he reached the end zone in a high school game after the jump.
This photo from Yahoo! answers.

Here's more on his gaffe in high school from ESPN in 2005:
At the 10 he started to rev up his speed a little and then -- whoosh! -- he took flight from just inside the 6-yard line, vaulting his body into air, somersaulting his way towards paydirt. It was a spectacular sight, Jackson's body flipping head-over-heels, he even switched the ball from right hand to left hand. There was only one problem: he miscalculated and came up six inches short and braced himself with his left hand, the one cupping the ball, which popped out on impact. He was ruled down at the one, but flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and his West team got the ball at the 16.
Thanks to commenter, JG, here's the video:

Oh, hey, look, the new thing the Philadelphia media will blow out of proportion.
As dumb as it was, it's not like this was a Leon Lett moment. You kept the ball, and scored the next play.
Maybe you would like to talk about Andy Reid's awful play call at the end.

There's something I'd like to talk about. For 10 years, I've seen some mighty fierce defense in midnight green. That ended tonight.
If Mikell weren't playing out of his gourd, Dawk and Considine would be totally exposed. The linebackers looked awfully young tonight, especially on the play where Cocong was not running directly AT Romo, so he just slung it around Cocong late in the game. I'm still convinced they could have rushed four and stunted a fifth 1 second into the play to rattle him. Chin Boy needed to be rattled. It didn't happen.

This is similar to another West Coast product who celebrated false accomplishment. I'm looking at you Freddie Mitchell, just kidding DeSean has talent.
btw, Is DeSean related to T.I? I see the same swag, facial features, beside it allows me to same "I could see if it was a real n*gga like T.I., then I would be like yo that's T.I." - Riley Freeman

How many times is Dawkins and Considine going to get beat that bad this year? Why is Considine playing at all?? Dawkins looked OLD and SLOW all night. Jez - hang it up already. Where was the pressure on Romo? Rediculous hand-off exchange by McNabb to Westbrook. No idea what McNabb was trying to do at the end of the game either - again, asinine play calling by Reid. There comes a point where you'd think - after 10 years in the league - McNabb would learn to THROW THE BALL AWAY AND NOT TAKE A SACK. Typical "We had it and let it slip away- oh well, ho-hum" BS. Why the heck did they burn those timeouts as fast as they did - just to give the ball back with over a min to play? I knwo youw ant to conserve time- but they also had the 2 min warning. The linebackers looked really confused all night. Where's Mays? Is he on IR? Siegrest needs to be challenged for the special teams coaching job. No way you can give up over 200 yards on kickoff returns. DO SOMETHING DIFFERENT. Kick it away from him squib it - SOMTHING. Yet another game that shouldn't have been lost.

As dumb as DeSean's play was, the Cowboy players are just as dumb for not jumping on the football.

In the end, it wasn't terrible, since Westbrook then punched it through anyway. But the kid embarrassed himself on national TV for no good reason. This was a much larger stage than the Army game, certainly.
Million-dollar talent, five-cent head, maybe.

You hit the nail on the head, Dan.
I am sure he will catch a ton of shit for it and will be running laps all week.

boneheaded, yes.
stupid, very.
will he hopefully learn, possibly?
did it effect the game, no.
lets move on

I'm willing to move on if Jackson is. If he's learned from this, then awesome. If he's not, there could be serious repercussions.
With so many WR injuries, the Eagles will likely throw him the ball more and more often, so he has the potential to screw things up exponentially if he hasn't learned his lesson.

DCGiggs, My thoughts exactly. Here we go again with the buffoonery of a coaching staff and with the same result of any circus, fold down the tents and let's leave town.

That is one dumb ass. Premature ejaculate to their stupid?

i dont understand how tony kornheiser can get away with criticizing the cowboys defenders for not jumping on the ball. the announcers criticized them several times....THE REF SIGNALED TOUCHDOWN. THE COWBOYS COULD HAVE PICKED IT UP AND RAN FOR 6 POINTS THE OTHER WAY, BUT THE PLAY WAS DEAD.
i mean, how is that so hard to understand? especially for an analyst. he should be fired on the spot for that alone, even if he weren't already the worst MNF analyst of all time. and, yes, that includes dennis miller.
Posted by: stevefredericks | Tuesday, September 16, 2008 at 06:32 PM
also, if you look at the replay you see adam jones start back towards the ball like he realized it could be a fumble, but he looks to the side, obviously at the ref, and stops himself when he sees the ref's signal.
for tony kornheiser to criticize someone incorrectly just because kornheiser doesnt know the goddamn rules, is a fucking embarrassment.
and christ, im a fucking eagles fan.

Jesus christ steve...calm down.

its one thing if an analyst doesnt know a rule...its another thing if he berates a player because of it

WHAT AN IDIOT!!!WHO CARES IF IT DIDN'T COST THEM. HE STILL DID IT AGAIN. SO OBVIOUSLY HE DIDN'T LEARN FROM HIGH SCHOOL
Posted by: SHNLKRT | Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 12:23 AM
yea i agree that he's a bonehead for making dumb mistakes like that, but he's still an exciting player
Posted by: hugh | Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at 08:31 AM
What he did was inexcusable -- how hard is it to see the goal line? However, he looks like he is going to be a big star for the Eagles.

The play did not affect the outcome of the game, but all you see on espn, and all media outlets is this bonehead play.
Who really has the time to go back and dig up High School highlights to find this highlight?
Yes it was a stupid decision but I for one am excited to see this young player grow into a pro-bowl player. He has the swagger of a T.O., I mean who else during their rookie year first monday night game would attempt to outdue a T.O. celebration?
This kid is going to be great!

Wow Steve, I will tell you one thing he probably learned in high school. Not to care what arm chair qb's like yourself say. He is playing and enjoying himself, while you are yelling at the tv and trying to figure out what clever comments you can post on this page. Next time try not to drop the F'bomb every 5 words, and maybe someone will respect what you have to say.

Don't worry, Jackson plays in Philly...the fans will let him know what is ok and what is not (rember Santa? T.O.?)...shouldn't be a second time.
