Dear Mets, Please Start Choking... NOW

The Phillies kick off quite a big series this evening against the division leading New York Mets. It's our top guns against theirs. Myers vs. Pelfrey, Moyer vs. Pedro, and the matchup of the aces on Sunday night, Hamels vs. Johan.

Overcoming a three game difference with less than a month to play is a big challenge. Unless New York pulls a repeat of their epic collapse of 2007, the Phils absolutely must win this series. The New York Post makes a good point in that this is a very different Mets team from the one that provided us with so much joy last season. So instead of relying on their bullpen to explode, the Phils need to step up and get the job done themselves. You know, like the opposite of losing a series to the Nationals.

Tonight is Brett Myers' chance to erase any memory we may have of his 2008 first half and subsequent trip to Lehigh. It's a simple formula in Philly: dominate the Mets and we will love you.

Philadelphia does not like New York and the Phillies clearly do not like the Mets. It's basically win or go home for the Phils at this point.

Let's win.

Is anyone else having problems with Comcast cable right now? I'm getting the "This Channel Should be Available Shortly" message on all channels. And when I called Comcast, I get a recorded "We're experiencing signal trouble in your area, we're working to restore it." They damn well better restore it with this weekend coming up.

Sorry Steve,

I'm out in KOP and my Comcast channel is coming through just fine.

I'm in Bensalem, my signal is OK is too. That happened to me before when I lost power one time for about an hour or so, the power came back, but the cable didn't. I called Comcast, and got the same message about an outage in my area...Comcast sucks.

What the shit is Spongetech.com??

I just surprised that you were able to actually speak to someone over the phone with Comcast. That's a miracle in itself.

SNY on MLB.tv - it's "bring your dog to the ballpark night" apparently. how friggin cute.

I
HATE
THE
METS

Come on, Jimmy?? Wtf???

DOBBER!!!

Dobey the house elf (Greg Dobbs) has not died yet!

@ Greg:

When I called Comcast, it wasnt a person who I talked to, it was a recording that played and told me to stay on the line if I wanted to talk to an actual person.

Niiiice Brett!

Brad Lidge time!

What is the Mets fascination with the techno crap?

lidge...finish it. Shut these assholes up who need to pump in an audio chant to get the crowd to chant

Shutout. Way to go Phils. 2 games back.

Great win with an awesome start by Brett Myers. Must also give credit to Manuel for the defensive replacement of Bruntlett for the Bat. There was no way that Pat could have got to the ball hit by Beltran.

That was way way way too close for comfort. At least its a win though. And myers sure looked outstanding tonight. I hope that the team can at least take one more of these two games, hopefully both.

Brett Myers = Superman. Seriously, the degree to which he turned it around is astonishing.

yea...what the hell happened to Myers in Allentown?

amazing

One more thing: according to ESPN, Shea was 84.1% full. The Mets can't sell out one of their most important games?

Nice win! I've got tix for tomorrow, which I'm assuming will be rained out.

great effort from the fightins'. this is what we needed. lets bring out the broom cause i wanna see a sweeep. i'd go home from college if we won the world series to see the parade!!!

@Argive

There were entire sections in the upper level that looked to have only the first 5 or so rows filled.

Mets fans suck.

Well, they didn't choke tonight. They just got flat out beat.

are both those hits off of lidge HRs at home? who cares. fuck the mets!

I would've been pissed if I was Ryan Church. So close. But not close enough, mwahahaha.

Brett Myers MANS UP

OK, there's one. Nice strong win, and Light's Out, though shakey, did turn out the lights.

Brett, whatever you're doing, keep doing it.

Rain is already falling here in CNJ now...I'm expecting a washout tomorrow and then about about 9 hours of Philly sports on Sunday - Eagles and Game 1 of the doubleheader at 1, Cole versus JoJo in the evening.

And I'll be cookin' for it.

Pelle - that's the 2nd time you've made a harry potter reference to dobby the house elf this season!! That's the annual 700 level quota I believe...

Sh*t...my double post doubled the dobby quota...

I was watching on mlb.com (not .tv) and for a second it said that it was 3-1, and that Wright had scored on a sac fly? What actually happened?

@digweed,

It was just a pop out. David Wright did not tag from third because the ball was hit to shallow left field. I had the gametracker up at that point (to check stats) and saw that they made that error.

It was indeed a shutout by the Phillies!

anyone else think daniel briere is pulling a bo jackson and playing for the phils under the pseudonym 'greg dobbs'? scoring goals and hitting home runs...awesome

I don't know about that.

But I do know these fuckers have to pay.

Nice win by the Phils, they really need to sweep this series to re-energize the fan base and not get washed away by the Eagles.

@Mark K NJ: looking forward to seeing whats on the menu this season.

Did anyone see the articles/story about Schmitty's e-mail before the series? Basically saying to the club, "The Mets know you're a better team, they remember last year".

It seemed to irritate the Mets juuuuuust a little, which is hilarious. “I have absolutely nothing to say to Mike Schmidt,” Delgado said. “I guess he was bored one afternoon, so fine with me.” And David Wright: “To each his own. He’s obviously biased in his e-mails or letters."

Even funnier is these guys sniping at a freakin' Hall of Famer. David Wright couldn't carry Schmitty's jock strap and Delgado, despite having a good second half isn't any defensive wonder nor has he been productive all the time.

Guess Mike finally figured out it's better to piss off other teams rather than rankle the hometown fans.
