Mets Update: Maine to DL, Wags Has a Strain
I know how you guys hate hearing bad news for the Mets, but alas, it's part of the duty we have been charged. We have no choice but to let you know that stalwart starter John Maine has been placed on the 15-day DL with a rotator cuff strain, and after coughing up a Johan Santana win last night, Billy Wagner is scheduled for an MRI to look at a forearm strain. Backstop Ramon Castro is also day-to-day after hurting his ankle last night.
The Mets bullpen depth will be significantly tested if Wags has to miss much time. Considering this is the second strain he's suffered recently, there's a chance he too could hit the DL. With no clear closer in waiting, they'd likely have to go to a Heilman-Sanchez committee, and select from the lesser of two evils based on match-ups.
I try to never actively cheer for injuries. I really do. But I've heard worse news.

While John Maine might be a good pitcher for their team, he is wildly inconsistent. Either way, losing him every fifth day would hurt the Mets, but not even close to how much losing Wagner would hurt.
The last time that they had to go without Wagner was when the Phils came up in the top of the 9th and rallied to take the lead and eventually win the game.
I don't really care if they lose those guys, but it sure as hell would help us by at least giving us a chance to open up a bigger lead.

The phils have to use this as a time to establish a little breathing room between them and the rest of the division, especially the mets. The next few weeks in the schedule are very favorable. Hopefully the rockies and astros can hold on and the phils can add a game tonight

Florida already went down. Mets are on their way..
No guarantee we win tonight, though.

The Phillies promoted Carlos Carrasco to AAA today and his first start is to come tonight against Rochester.
The Inquirer broke the story. Just posted on my blog about it and The Fightins have it covered as well.
I like that they're taking the chance and moving him up. I just worry that he might not be ready. He was only 7-7 with an ERA over 4.00. With the spot that was opened when Walrond was recalled, they had to bring in someone to replace him, and I guess Carrasco was the best choice. I wonder if he'll be brought up when rosters expand in September. I'd rather them not, but who knows sometimes with this team.

And down go the mets. Only thing that could make this better is a phils victory tonight. Hopefully brett can stay consistent tonight and give the team a chance to win.

@Greggy
The Carrasco move was reported yesterday...I put it on here as well at 1:30.
The bigger move is Walrond to the big team.

Hmm weird that I didn't notice. I'm sorry for saying it on here today then. I checked the date on the Inquirer article I saw and it was from today. There must have been another one and they just included it in Phillies notes.
/hides in corner in embarrassment for being an amateur blogger and getting excited about some actual big news
