California Love
This week, the Phillies are playing for their insomniac fans: Tonight the Fightins start a four-game set with the Los Angeles Dodgers at Chavez Ravine. Killer Kyle Kendrick takes the hill for the Phillies. He'll be opposed by Derek Lowe, a usually serviceable pitcher who seems to have fallen on a bit of bad luck this season.
Discuss the game here (if you aren't watching Kerri Walsh and Marlins catcher Matt Treanor's wife Misty play beach volleyball).

Fuck the west coast, start the games at 7:05 EST, they can deal with it.

At least tonight, if another incredible finish occurs in Olympic swimming, I won't be asleep.
Russia is making itself look bitter on many fronts. The Russian lightweight boxer just shoved the ukranian in the face after getting beat. Dude, it's the olympics, chill out. Is your country going to reoccupy the Ukraine next?
Anyways, go phils, and may I not be exhausted and sleeping through meetings because I watched you NOT take advantage of the mets/marlins losing.

Someone get Manny some pants that fit

Two awful strike out calls.

Someone get this ump a set of eyes that work.

I watched the replay a dozen times and still can't see how the he'll you call a balk. Makes the ump look like a total a-hole.
Posted by: Benjamin | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:47 PM
That and those two outside strikeouts mean the phils better have some favorable calls coming their way
Posted by: Liam | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 10:50 PM
I wonder why players covering on tags immediately show theumps they have the ball. If jimmy pays attention to the runner there he would've been able to tag him after he came off the bag after the slide. Its the umps job to see the ball, so just worry about applying the tag

damn the manny
friggin hippie, cut those dreads!

Theo Epstein better be happy he's out of town cause I would walk straight to Fenway and kick him in the nuts for that awful trade. Just gives me more reasons to hate this awful city.
And whatever happened to runners having to avoid getting hit by a pitch to be awarded first base? That ball probably would've gotten him anyways, but he just stands there without moving a muscle.

this shit better not happen Thursday or my drive from Phoenix will have been wasted.

Pretty terrible inning by Kendrick to say the least
Posted by: Liam | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:13 PM
Well, I guess I WON'T be sleeping through meetings tomorrow. Way to go kendrick, you're not doing me any favors. It took 2 outstanding plays to make that ONLY a 6 run inning. The catch to end the inning, and the outfield assist by werth.
Posted by: Benjamin | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:18 PM
Ugh, everytime I think I'm out, they pull me back in.
Posted by: Benjamin | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:21 PM
They needed that second run there. It would've been nice if Burrell took a few pitches there. The teams lack of consistent patience at the place is really getting on my nerves. I wish that somebody would get them to take more pitches at key times
Posted by: Liam | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:24 PM
Get him out of there. He is pitching horribly today
Posted by: Liam | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:31 PM
Killer K gets a whole new meaning tonight. Damn he sucked these last 2 innings.
Posted by: Mike L. | Monday, August 11, 2008 at 11:37 PM
He really has put this team in a hole for the series. Even if they come back they are gonna blow through their bullpen tonight and be at a disadvantage for the rest of this series. Hopefully the bats come alive now.

The staff was due for a clunker. But i would say that this was not the night for with both the mets and marlins losing and our first game of a big road trip.

Ugh, what a waste to stay up for. Not a good way to start off this series. This team no matter how many opportunities its given just doesn't seem to be able to put anymore distance between them and the mets and marlins

Played well enough to keep it close, but poorly enough to still result in the always-popular disappointing loss.

what a surprise mr. clutch ryan howard grounds out to end the game. way to keep it close kendrick. FUCK YOU MANNY!

Just got back from the game...glad to say that Dodger fans are just as classless and pathetic as always. The stadium was basically empty by the 9th.
That being said, the Phils need to take care of business. Even with Manny the Dodgers are a sub par team. Speaking of Manny, LA fans admiration of this guy is disgusting. They give him a standing O for making a routine catch in left. That's ok, just wait till they are eliminated from that playoffs and Manny starts half-assing it. Then we'll see how much all those bandwagoners in LA love him.

Lidge just admitted that he thinks Clint Hurdle's use of him during the all star game is what started all these problems.

Not bad by the bullpen, though - even if Kendrick sucked and didn't manage to last 4 innings, we only used 2 arms out of the bullpen and they pitched well. This one's on Kendrick first, then the offense. Good work by the Walrond anf Condrey, allowing most of the arms to stay fresh for the rest of the road trip.
