Which Oliver Perez Will Phils Face in Game 3 Today?
After splitting the first two games of four contests with the Mets, the Phillies face lefty Oliver Perez in today's afternoon showdown. Perez has been something of an enigma for the Mets this year, brilliant at times and awful at others, so it'll be interesting to see which iteration shows up to play at CBP.
Perez hasn't allowed an earned run to the Phillies in two contests this season, but both starts came in April, after which his ERA has seen some high peaks and a few valleys, sitting just below 5.00 today. To some degree, it's been feast of famine for Perez in 2008. In 17 starts, Ollie has allowed four or more earned runs in eight games, and in six of those, he let up five or six. However, Perez has limited opposing teams to two earned runs or less in eight other contests.
A look at Perez's 2008 splits shows that he's fared better in day games, worse on the road, and that righties knock him around while he controls lefties fairly well. Lead the way, Pat the Bat.
Kyle Kendrick takes the bump for the Phils. Muck the Fets.

VOTE PAT IN!!!!!!!!!!!! Don't let the muts win

Thanks wheels for letting everyone know how stupid you are...Does anyone really care that he deleted an email. I want LA back

Also, so far I have not hit a limit on the number of times you can vote. Lets get Pat the Bat in the Mid summer Classic
Posted by: John | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 04:05 PM
I just put about 20 votes towards Pat.
This rain delay really came at a pivotal point in this game. I hate when that happens.

I can't believe Cole wasn't selected either. The NL has 12 pitchers, and only one LHP? And it's friggin Billy Wagner, save blower extraordinaire. Clint Hurdle needs to take another look. Oh wait. He's too worried about the Rockies in last place.

Slowly... losing... interest... as... delay... drags... on....
That stupid weather pattern keeps redeveloping above South Philly. It's as if there is some nutty Mets fan salting the clouds, praying for the umpires to call the game.

Please stop raining...we need to conquer the Mets.
But is anyone loving the reflection on Ashburn, complete with cheesy song?

13 miles from the stadium, we've barely seen a drop. Variety case of Victory on the patio while we wait... Phils come back and win this.

Douchebag of the day amongst many contenders- the guy in McFaddens wearing a Joe Carter jersey and a Mets hat. Hands down.
I hope that asshole gets hit by a high speed train on his way home to north jersey. Oh and a win would be nice.

1.8 miles from stadium... no rain for 30-45 minutes.
Posted by: Nick | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 07:00 PM
@ Pete
That's definitely a double-play of douchedom right there.
If he was wearing a Dallas shirt underneath the Carter jersey he'd complete the trifecta.

holy crap

Whatever the outcome, I take solace in the fact that, once again, Wagner is a bitch.

O Billy boy....6 blown saves and he is an all star? Something ain't right.

Madson's offspeed stuff looks filthy tonight I don't know why he was shaking off the curveball... gets the pitch he wants and they get a base hit... listen to your catcher... he is smarter than you

BigTom I was just saying that too goot about the allstar game

As I said, save blower extraordinaire. If the Mets end up losing I'll have to watch the NY media feed for jumpers at the Brooklyn Bridge. J-Werth with cluth hitting tho.

clutch*

MAUI-WOW-E... he's been hitting well when he needs to lately
Posted by: Johnny G | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 08:10 PM
Yikes. This is a Sal Fasano situation. The 'stache would see it through where Chooch may not.

Ruiz hit a soft grounder in a clutch situation? What a shock.
And yes, I copied & pasted that from my comment in last night's thread. Funny how it keeps being relevant.

The Mets fans were, as usual, slightly less intelligent then the balls being used today. The best part of being at the game was the fan running on the field during the rain delay and hiding in the tube that they roll the tarp around.

You could keep that to copy and paste and it would be as relevant as "Wagner blows the save" on a daily basis.

I hope this does not come back to bite me in the ass, but I like that we have a long reliever in Durbin available now. Part of me wants to see him take a shot at a bunt single.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 08:26 PM
Bitten in the ass. Dang.

Howard swings at 3-1. Fantastic.
Perhaps he needs a week or two with Allentown to work on his plate discipline.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 08:50 PM
Oh well. Two nights in a row the offense did not show up, and the bullpen blinked. At least, no matter tomorrow's outcome, the Phils still are in first.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 08:54 PM
@matty B that guy was hilarious. I was so angry at the people who make decisions at the ballpark. the left centerfield sections were flagged after the third inning and beer vendors were not allowed to come down and serve us. it really made no sense we were not very rowdy at all. we were not really cursing, no fights had broken out or anything.
Posted by: themajor | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 09:43 PM
We need tomorrow. We just do. We can't let the Mets get and stay above .500 if we can have a hand in it. Our offense has been inconsistent, our bullpen has not been up to par, and someone needs to catch fire soon, or we could be watching the Mets take first back. I hate to be the turd in the punchbowl, but it's entirely possible.

I have to say that today was probably in the top 5 of best baseball games that I have ever been to...loss or not, everything about the atmosphere, the game, even the rain delay was phantastic.
Posted by: JMS | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 10:42 PM
This loss really took a lot of wind out of my sails. The pitching did everything they could to keep them in the games...
I'm so freakin sick of the Phillies right now. Where are the bats? Are we just going to limp into the break? What's the second half have in store?
I'm so pissed right now. I hope that club house is twice as mad as me cause they disgust me.
Posted by: Jonn | Sunday, July 06, 2008 at 11:49 PM
@ themajor they stop serving those sections after the third inning every game I believe. I have seats out there for the Sunday plan and I've sat out there other nights, and there is never beer after the 3rd. It all started with the first Mets serious this season...it's pretty f'ing ridiculous if you ask me
Posted by: BillyPenn | Monday, July 07, 2008 at 12:22 AM
@billypenn it definately was it didn't really affect me since I was drinking lagers anyway but I was pissed mroe on principle. almost the whole section was well behaved not alot of cursing no fighting or yelling matches. I have no problem with it if we were rowdy or fighting but we weren't. I was at two out of the three games this weekend and almsot every fan was well behaved inside the stadium. though a big fight broke out at mcfaddens during the rain delay. but I was definately angered by the way the attendants treated the fans and the beer vendors.

While I have to say that the outcome of this game was a major disappointment, this is not a major problem. Just win tonight and leave the Mets 4 games older without gaining any ground. There are benefits of being the team getting chased, as opposed to doing the chasing. That being sid, we're fucked if they lose tonight.
