The Talk About Chase Utley In The All Star Game Thread
The 2008 MLB All Star Game is about to get underway in the Bronx. America's hero, Chase Utley, will be batting in the two hole for the National League squad. After last night's episode, we wouldn't be shocked if our man two-six puts a Cliff Lee curveball deep into the short porch. While rounding the bases, Chase will extend both of his middle fingers high into the New York air and complete his ascension into the pantheon of Philadelphia legends.
We may post some observations throughout below. So follow along and add your thoughts. Go NL! Or something.
Pre Game:
RE: New Yorker's singing Sinantra: who knew New Yorkers were so damn tone deaf? The foreign cab driver may have been the best one.
Ernie Banks motivated me about enough to reach for my phone to order some pizza.
Oh, and Brad Lidge. We'll cheer for him. How could we forget about Mr. Perfect.
Deadspin came up with this handy BINGO card.
Hey, there's Michael Jack Schmidt, Robin Roberts, and Steve Carlton. They are there because all living Hall of Famers are in attendance because this is Yankee Stadium's final game ever. Besides the 35 or so more later this season.
Chase Utley does not really get booed during his introduction. Carry on.
8:34 - The game has still not started.
8:48 - Finally! A pitch. And FOX advertised the game as starting at 7:00 PM. HA!
Chase comes to bat following a Hanley Ramirez strikeout and promptly strikes out. Cliff Lee got him looking on a rather nice pitch.
9:30 - Chase Utley comes up for the second time in the third inning with Hanley Ramirez on first. Chase gets jammed and sends a chopper down to first. Wake me up when something interesting happens.
10:20 - Chase got a hit in his third at bat that helped move Hanley Ramirez to third and eventually scored on the next at bat. Way to go Chase.

Buck? Eff you.

Did they not introduce Utley or did I miss it?
Posted by: Rich | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 08:04 PM
Utley was a security threat, he was benched.
Just kidding, they didn't introduce the starters yet, only the David Wright types.

F*ck New York. Greatest collection of baseball players ever and i think they booed half of them. It is either your a Yankee or Met or the don't give a F*ck about you.I can not stand NY fans!!

No the game did not start and Sheryl Crow is not good at singing the National Anthem.

Holy shit. That bomber flyover was awesome.

God McCarver and Buck make listening to this intolerable. God forbid the Phillies make the WS and we have to listen to these toolbags.

As they show "great moments in Yankee Stadium history," I wish they would play Madonna's I'll Remember.

I don't know what I am sick of more, Josh Hamilton's story or Brett Favre making an ass of himself.
Fuck Joe Buck.

Good thing Utley got a hit. He was looking a bit dejected tonight. Don't want any of that carrying over into the real stuff.
Posted by: Joe | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 10:19 PM
Utley laced a single off of Douche-Share-Her, but now he's on the bench. Did anyone else think Ryan Howard was crying in the shower during the Home Run Derby?

"volquez has the best changeup in the game"
cole hamels?

Chase Utley: "Drew? F*ck you."

as J.D. Boo promptly hits a 2 run bomb off of Volquez

How much you want to bet Clint Hurdle doesn't use Lidge? He must really hate the Phillies, evne though they swept them.
Posted by: Minority Authority | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:11 PM
I swear if they put Billy Wagner in to close, I'll place a diabolical voodoo curse on Clint Hurdle.
Posted by: Joe | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:12 PM
And his colon.
Posted by: Joe | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:12 PM
Besides my spelling error, Buck corrects me. If Marmol comes in, NL loses though.
Posted by: Minority Authority | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:18 PM
...aaaaand Wagner self-destructs once again.
Posted by: Steve | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:19 PM
WAGNER! HAHA! Oh man, I want to see the NL win, but that brightens an otherwise dark night sky.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:20 PM
Good job Mets fans. Thanks for sticking the NL with that bum, you fucking homers.
Posted by: hitnrun | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:22 PM
Wagner is such a piece of shit
Posted by: Zack | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:25 PM
Nevermind, I guess the Cubs pitcher to blow it is Dumpster not big ear Marmol.
Posted by: Minority Authority | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:36 PM
looks like the mets are already off to that hot second half start.....wagner blowing it and david wright doing nothing.... i really am starting to hate the mets worse than the cowboys....

Utley > Uggla
Posted by: Phils Phan | Tuesday, July 15, 2008 at 11:58 PM
way to go uggla...chas, you are not. Go phils! Let's have a great second half!
Posted by: dannyd | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:01 AM
Totally. Uggla with the DP in the top half, then 2 errors back to back. I don't want any Florida fans (all 5 of them) talking up this dumbass over Chase anymore.
Posted by: MSM | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:02 AM
So suprising that the media does not make a big deal about New York fans booing all-stars including Utley. If this happened in Philly, it would be... "These are the fans sho booed Santa Claus." New York gets a free ride again.
Posted by: richrick2007 | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Based loaded, no outs, and no runs? Who do these AL bums think they are? The Fightins? Hurdle, you intelligent bastard. Way to walk 'em loaded.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:05 AM
great play by tejada
Posted by: Bryan | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:05 AM
Wow. Way to go AL. Just save Uggla's ass like that. Uggla sucks hard.
Posted by: Mike L. | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:06 AM
Speaking of NY fans, after hearing them rip Papelbon in the game I found this of interest....and WE'RE the ones who get the bad rep?

They mentioned Lidge could be the closer. Thanks to Uggla, he almost didn't have a chance to showcase his stuff.

Man, tie game, 11th inning. This is Pat Burrell Time. Instead, we get David Wright time--snd he shows why he did not belong here in the first place, but instead benefited from a popularity contest.

Burrell wouldn't have done that
Posted by: John | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:13 AM
Just fyi Wright didn't get voted in, he was chosen as a replacement for Alfonso Soriano (over Pat Burrell. And Hart looked like an idiot those past two at bats, too bad Pat the bat didn't get voted in, but what can you do
Posted by: Liam | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:15 AM
Liam:
My complete mistake. I was thinking of the runoff vote where Wright was 2 and Burrell 3.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:40 AM
god uggla is terrible and so is wagner. i had a feeling something bad was going to happen when he came in
Posted by: zack | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Oh just letting you know not trying to be a dick. But regardless Burrell should be in over him ludwick and hart. And this is painful watching uggla screw the team over continuously.
Posted by: Liam | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:42 AM
0-6 with runners in scoring position? C'mon fighti...oh wait.
Posted by: Joe | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:42 AM
Is it too late to re-insert chase for choke job uggghla.
Posted by: Gerry | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:45 AM
12:49am: Just saw Chase grab a tin of SKOAL to throw in a lipper. This make mark the latest MLB all star lipper.
Posted by: gerry | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:50 AM
If this doesn't wrap up soon they should call it a tie and schedule game 7 of the World Series (if necessary) at a neutral site.
Posted by: BadMotherFutley | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:50 AM
How are the Phillies not in 1st Place by at least 10 games?
Dan Uggla, Marlins; 0-3; 2Ks; 6 left on base; grounded into double play; and 2 errors.
Billy Wagner, Mets: 1/3 of an inning; 9 pitches; 2 hits; and 1 ER.
David Wright 1-3; with the one hit beeing a broken bat gift; 2 Ks
Posted by: richrick2007 | Wednesday, July 16, 2008 at 12:53 AM
The problem here is that all the 2nd tier batters are in. Why not start the 2nd tier guys and have the better players in for the important innings?
