Sixers Offically Sign Big Man Blogger
It's official. The Sixers have announced the signing of Elton Brand, perhaps the biggest name to change teams this off season.
Ed Stefanski made the announcement earlier:
"We are very excited about adding a player of Elton Brand’s caliber," Stefanski said. "We fully believe that his considerable talent, wealth of experience and proven leadership will mesh very well with the style of play of this team and he will be valuable member of this organization for years to come."
"Elton Brand is the exact type of player we want playing for the Sixers," Comcast-Spectacor Chairman Ed Snider said. "He is a wonderful leader both on and off the court and the kind of gentleman who will have a tremendous and everlasting impact on our entire organization."
The below video is over a year old and we couldn't track down the blog they were speaking of but it's worth a look.

A thought that just came to me...
Iggy for Rip Hamilton?

heres what i liked from the pres conference - Brand came here for among other reasons because we offered the "philly max." I love that the team was able to make a guy feel like he is really wanted. That Clippers franchise is a joke.
Cliche - a good idea on the Rip trade, but they already have Prince at the 3. If Iggy could play the 2, we wouldn't need to be looking at trade options.Do you think we could get Kevin Martin in a deal for him. I really like his game and think he would fit nicely.

I really think we should trade Brand for a high quality center like Dikembe Mutombo we should also waive samuel dalembert and resign all star kevin ollie to a max contract of 5yr and 88 million a year the next step is to fire stephanski and rehire Billy King after that i believe we can be a contender

does anyone else think the brand jersey they showed at the press conference looks different than what the team is currently wearing?

cliche; no way would Igive up Iggy for Rip. As the team stands right now it is built on defense, Hmilton couldn't guard the chair that Yi posted up.

And Josh, as the team stands now, we have nobody who can hit an open 20+ foot jump shot. I love Iggy, but because of his price (and the fact that he plays the same position as Thad) I'd lose him in a heartbeat for Rip. Of course Detroit would be silly to do such a thing because they already have Tay.
Brand excites me, but the fact that we've committed a huge chunk of salary space to a guy coming off a MAJOR injury and didn't like to run before the injury scares me. I'm not sure that we have the resources now to put players around Brand. While our lineup now (assuming we re-sign Iggy) will be great for alley-oops, we desperately need a shooter.
If everything works out, this could be a great signing. Though I abhor Philly negativism, I am reminded of how excited I was for the Big Dog and Webber signings (I was living in Boston and bought the NBA season Pass to watch games in that first Big Dog season.... he subsequently missed 40 games to injury, and the Sixers dropped 15 more games than the previous year). This doesn't have quite the same flavor, but agony hardly ever does..... With $10 mil a year to Dalembert and more than that going to Brand, how are we going to flesh out a real team? And if Brand disappoints, we're back in Billy the King land....
