Show Pat Burrell Your Support, Vote Him Into the All Star Game

Pat Burrell did not get voted into this year's All Star game at Yankee Stadium but that doesn't necessarily mean he won't get to play in the game. The Bat could either get voted into the final spot on the National League roster or he could get chosen to replace Alfonso Soriano who may not play in the game due to injury.

Some may argue that Pat isn't deserving of the final spot but I say fooey. The All Star game isn't always about who has the absolute best numbers (even though you can make a strong case for Burrell). I feel like after all the years of shit we gave Burrell for not living up to his contract the least we could do is vote a couple dozen hundred times for the guy to make the All Star game. He is having a pretty great year.

For your penance hateful Philly fan please vote 50 Hail Pats online and 50 N1 texts.

You can vote online for Pat to get the final spot at the MLB website here.

Another, perhaps easier way, to vote is to simply text the following numbers put plainly by TheFightins.com:

Text message the code “N1″ to number 36197 on your fancy phone
Within a minute-or-so, you will receive a message stating,

You voted for Burrell in the Monster All-Star Final Vote. Vote Again. Ends 7/10 at 5 p.m. ET. Try All-Star Alerts, Text “Get ASG” to 65246. Std msg fees apply.

Supposedly there is no limit as to how many texts you can send.

Another argument for Burrell after the jump.

ESPN.com's Keith Law makes a strong case for Burrell getting the shaft.

But what's the better feel-good story: The journeyman, 4A player who has two hot months and makes an All-Star team, or the perennially underrated player who gets dumped on by his local media and finally earns the national recognition of an All-Star nod? Burrell is currently fifth in the NL in OBP and is over .400 in that category for the second straight season, while he's sixth in slugging percentage. He's not a strong defensive player, but neither is Ludwick.

Alfonso Soriano was a questionable selection by the fans, but probably won't play anyway, so here's hoping National League manager Clint Hurdle replaces him with Burrell, or perhaps Pittsburgh's Jason Bay, who is bouncing back from an injury-wrecked 2007 and is currently in the top 20 in the NL in both OBP and slugging. Bay, a former Rookie of the Year winner and two-time All-Star, has both the current-year stats and the resume to be in the Bronx next Tuesday.

Pretty sure he's #1 among NL OFs in OBP as well.

I'll be voting like crazy til the deadline. I really love the genuine excitement I saw on Pat's face after Shanes walk off on Friday(and all year really). I hope they are working on some sort of an extension.

Pish-posh with all the "Burrell doesn't deserve to be there" talk. He definitely deserves a trip to the Bronx. Dude is having a solid first half, very much ASG worthy.

Also, for the AL, I say vote Evan Longoria, just because the D-Rays got robbed by the ESPN-influenced Boston Bukkake going on here.

I think I've fully repented to Pat for my years of frustration - I just voted 124 consecutive times for him (and Longoria). There clearly isn't a limit on the number of votes you can cast.

he's certainly more deserving than fukudome.

Whatever you do, don't vote on their voice hotline.

MLB Recording: "Please say the name of the player you wish to vote for."

Me: "Burrell."

MLB Recording: "You have selected, 'Burl Ives.' He is neither alive nor a baseball player. Please say the name again."

Me: "BURRELL."

MLB Recording: "You have selected, 'Mark Buehrle.' If this is correct, press 1."

Me: "Fuck!"

MLB Recording: "You have selected, 'Keith Foulke.' If this is correct, press 1..."

That's truly pantheon material.

Pat deserves it this year. I just voted at least a hundred times for him. Gonna go back and vote some more later.

wasting all my text messages on voting.

haha first couple comments on the 'vote for Wright' post on metsblog are "reyes deserves it more than wright"

some fans..

I've voted online about 75 times last night and text voted about 150 times while at work today.

I've got about 150 more texts left to use up before my billing cycle ends at the end of the day thursday so I'm using them all on Burrell.

if you have unlimited texts, like me, you have a responsibility to get Pat into the All Star Game....and Reyes? He doesn't deserve a damn thing....let alone more than Wright, what a doofus

...I have no idea how many times I've voted for Pat so far. I took my laptop on vacation specifically to vote, and I even managed to get my best friend (who's not even into baseball) to vote with me.
