Progress: Eaton to the Pen
The Phillies made the expected move of sending Adam Eaton to the bullpen today to make room for Joe Blanton in the rotation. Eaton took the move in stride, "I’d like to be a starter, don’t get me wrong, but anything to help the team. I’m on one of the best teams in the big leagues. But we’re going to win this thing and it will be good to be a part of it.” [Delaware News Journal]

I'd rather not see him on the team at all, but at least he won't be throwing the first pitch for them anymore.

Ya know, the team could use another hot dog vendor... that's be taking one for the team.
When he talks about "anything to help the team," he does realize that his best way of helping the team is to pitch less and less, doesn't he?

You see what Howard did with his hands during that swing there?

i gotta tell you that's as good a quote as you can hope for a guy in his position...

I can handle Eaton being in the mop-up role. There's no rule saying you can't warm someone else up if he gets into big trouble. I like how he's handling this too. Maybe he won't be a total waste...

I am glad Eaton is in the pen, though I would rather he be in Lehigh Valley, maybe figuring out what he does in those few instances he pitches well. But he has always struck me as a decent guy. He admitted he sucked last year, and has never seemed content just to collect a paycheck. I'd like to see him at least be able to contribute to this team. And then retire :-)

Glad that Eaton accepted his fate with some grace. Blanton HAS to be better, right?
Anyway, as a Phillies fam living in Miami, I will be representing this afternoon!!

Oh great, now Eaton can implode the great ERA of the bullpen!! Here's hoping that he's never needed.
@stvdog - represent us well. I fully expect to hear you, personally, starting an E-A-G-L-E-S when the phillies are up by 3 or more runs :)
