Sixers resign Lou Williams

Phil Jasner is reporting the Sixers have agreed to a 5-year contract with Lou Williams, terms of the deal have not been disclosed.  Not exactly the roster move we were hoping for today, but it is still nice to see the Sixers keep their young core intact.  Hopefully Lou keeps progressing and the Sixers have their PG for the future after Andre Miller leaves town.

Phillies Face the Evil John Lannan

The name John Lannan doesn't sit well with most Phillies fans. But Chase and company can get some vengeance tonight when they go for the sweep in DC. Utley has homered in both games so far this week. Kyle Kendrick throws for the Fightins and I'm expecting tonight to have the heaviest Philly presence of the three game set at Nationals Ball Park. Cause tomorrow is Friday and all. Working on Friday is overrated.

4:00 P.M. - Stand Pat

4:00 p.m. has come and gone and the Phillies opted to stay away from any trade deadline deals. Now it's time for Pat Gillick to work those waiver wire deals. Phils fans will certainly not be surprised by the lack of a move today but they may be disappointed. Ken Griffey Jr. turned out to be the only real notable player to switch teams it seems.

Update: Manny to... Dodgers. Bay to Boston.

Todd Herremans is a Sexy Single

Toddherremans Philly.com's typically hysterical "Sexy Singles" list is back again and this time they suckered poor Todd Herremans into volunteering his mug for the bit.

Come on dude, you're in the NFL, you should be pulling tail left and right!

Oh, after watching the below video, it appears as if Todd isn't in to just pulling tail like 98.4% of the NFL players. He's looking for a laid back girl who can do her own thing.

Flyers To Play Pre Season Game at Spectrum

If ever there was a reason to go watch a pre season hockey game this has to be it. The Flyers have announced they will play against the Carolina Hurricanes on September 27th at the Wachovia Spectrum. The building will be closing in the next year and joining Veterans Stadium in old building heaven.

This epic pre season game will surely crack the top 10 ten hockey moments at the hollowed grounds on Broad and Pattison.

On That Soul Thing

>>Crushed Philadelphia Sports Fans Devastated By Philadelphia Soul's Arena League Title:

Locals are saying the damage to Philadelphia's morale and civic pride is equal to that done by Boyz II Men, the crack cocaine epidemic, and the acquisition of the Philadelphia Soul by New Jersey pop star Jon Bon Jovi.

Phillies Look to Make Deadline Deal (Unless They Don't)

So it's the night before Christmas and all through the NL East fans have visions of a dreadlocked, bat wielding elf dancing through their line up. It's trade deadline day!

The rumor with the most steam is the three team deal sending Manny to Florida and Jason Bay to Beantown.

Rich Hofmann pens a piece this morning telling of how Burrell, Moyer and the rest of the clubhouse thinks they can win with what they have now. Jim Salisbury counters that by analyzing Cholly's wet dreams of his former padawan in Cleveland.

My logic tells me the Phils will stand pat while the fan in me wants a new exciting piece. How do you think today will unfold?

Nats Game 2: Moyer vs. Redding

Chase Utley's home run pace has slowed a bit, perhaps due to being banged up, so it was good to see him take one deep last night in what proved to be the game winner. They continue to live and die by the long ball so it'd be nice if they could start manufacturing some runs. But frankly, it doesn't matter how they score 'em as long as they get the W.

They'll have their hands full tonight with Tim Redding, a guy who always seems to pitch rather well against the Phils. Feel free to post any trade rumblings in the comments as the rumor mill will sure be busy this evening.

Jason Donald Olympic Photo Gallery

Jasondonaldphillies It's nice to see the red Phillies cap adorning our nation's baseball uniform in Beijing. That's Phillies prospect Jason Donald who has been consistently linked in trade talks involving the Royals Ron Mahey (Ho!).

NBC Sports is in all out blitz mode in regards to their Olympics content and they have a nice photo gallery of the Phillies middle infield prospect.

Quickies: NFL Changes Rule From Eagles vs. Bears Game Last Season

Scenes From Camp: Veterans

Veterans 2008.07.28, originally uploaded by JPMcCoy73 RU

A great look at two of the best players to dawn don Eagles Green in recent years. Anybody else looking forward to watching what kind of season BDawk can put together after working hard all off-season following his scary situation with his kids last summer?

Phils Deal Or No Deal?

With tomorrow's 4 p.m.trade deadline quickly approaching, Pat Gillick faces some very difficult decisions in the 24 hours ahead. Most of the talk has the Phillies adding either a right-handed bat or left-handed reliever, but there are serious concerns surrounding any of these potential moves. Several of the rumored transactions could be prohibitively expensive, and none of the remaining available players guarantees a trip to the playoffs.

The player the Phils still seem most likely to acquire is Rockies closer Brian Fuentes, a lefty who projects to a quality set-up man for Brad Lidge. The problem is Colorado will receive two high draft picks if Fuentes departs as a free agent after this season, so the asking price is locked at a pair of high-end prospects. Another name that picked up steam in just the past couple days is Royals relief pitcher Ron Mahay, who at age 37 is having the best year of his career.

At this point, the smartest decision might be not to deal at all and hope for the best. None of the reported swaps address the club's glaring need for a dependable starting pitcher to fit between Cole Hamels and Jamie Moyer in the rotation, and they could all eventually prove costly to the future while offering no assurance of success right now. If it doesn't make the Phillies a favorite to reach the World Series, is it really worth the risk?

Maddux to Phils: Eh, No Thanks.

Still in need of some pitching help (despite Brett's gem in DC!), the Phillies have reportedly inquired as to whether Padres first-ballot man Greg Maddux would accept a trade to our fair town. And he reportedly said "No."

Not a big surprise, as the rumors around any potential Maddux deal have all included that he'd likely reject any trade off of the west coast, not wanting to uproot his family at this stage of his career. No hard feelings, Greg.

The Phils will meanwhile keep rummaging through the sale items, with middle relief help looking to be the most likely add.

Former Phillie Julio Mateo Arrested With Counterfeit Benjamins

Benjamins Julio Mateo, who was with the Phils briefly before being released last off-season, has been arrested on suspicion of forgery after the fuzz found fake $100 bills in his hotel room. Apparently, Mateo had used a fake to stiff a cabbie out of a $27 cab fare.

Police said the cab driver later used the fake bill to pay a lease fee upon returning the vehicle, but a cashier using a marking pen identified the currency as bogus. The driver returned to the team’s hotel and called police.

After investigating officers received permission from Mateo to enter his hotel room, an officer saw “two stacks (of) money with $100 bills on top of the stacks,” a police report said.

Glad to see he's gotten his life back together after the whole wife-beating thing. The 30-year-old had been playing in the Giants farm system.

Who Needs Ballpark Food When You Can Have the Original

Chilli bowl, originally uploaded by The700Level

As you may have read in our last post from the stadium, we waited about 1.5 innings in a line for Ben's Chili Bowl only to be told they were out of halfsmokes. No worries. We just hit up the real thing on U Street post game. Much tastier than the ballpark fare.

Granted it is not exactly a stud Nats team but Brett Myers put forth a great outing. A nice win to kick off the three game set in DC.

My Internet is sketchy again so Wednesday morning may be slow.

Also, anyone know the scientific term for a halfsmoke? Some sort of sausage?
