Gladwyne Resident Trying to Keep McKie Out
After former Sixer and Temple hoops star Aaron McKie was arrested on for falsifying information while trying to purchase a handgun, a resident (or a small group of residents) in Gladwyne is trying to keep McKie from moving into the upscale suburb. McKie is having a mansion built on Youngs Ford Road, where according to the Inquirer's Kathy Boccella, neighbors received a flyer with the following horseshit printed on it:
"Attention please, read if you care about your neighborhood!!! How can we prevent Aaron McKie from moving into our safe and peaceful neighborhood. His house is almost complete on Youngsford Road. Let's prevent another Iverson from moving in!"
Another example of life imitating South Park. True you don't want to see your new neighbor on the news in handcuffs, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the characteristic AI and McKie share that is bothering the pamphleteer isn't that they're both professional athletes or possessors of criminal records. However, if they're concerned with McKie's legal issues, they might want to look into the federal statutes regarding tampering with the mail and mailboxes.
And just out of curiosity... as you so poorly punctuated-ly asked, how were you going to "prevent Aaron McKie from moving in"? By anonymously standing in front of his house when the moving vans arrived?
For their part, the neighbors quoted in Boccella's piece called the action a disgrace. Most came to McKie's defense, although one of the later quotes in the article was somewhat less than favorable, and contrary to the sentiments of those who had become acquainted with McKie during his time with the Sixers.

ah the hypocracy of the main line. they will help the poor kid in north philly with their money but only as long as that kid doesn't get wealthy enough to actually move out to the main line. I have done some work in the houses on that road and they are sick.

Not to diminish your journalist integrity here, Matt, but the crux of the article is that this note was outright rejected by the majority of the neighborhood. Hell, the article is titled "Anti-McKie flyer angers Gladwyne neighbors," and not, as you suggest, that Gladwyne residents are more focused on keeping him out. I had to pass the jump and read down 4 paragraphs just to get to your point (which, again, is the point of the article itself) that the neighbors called the note "pathetic" and whomever wrote it a "coward."
"Well yeah, but at least I got rid of all those damn nig..."

Matt, I apologize, just realize you said resident and not residents (plural). You can redact what I just said . . . but keep the south park joke.

Quite embarrassing but not surprising in the least- I'm sure there is a fair amount of ignorant rich people in Gladwyne. Glad most of those who spoke up were of the right mind.

Zas, thanks for clarifying. No worries, sometimes I post before having my coffee too.

uh oh Richers!

Does Iverson have a criminal record? From what I remember, the bowling alley incident as a teen was expunged, the charges against him in '02 were dropped... am I missing anything?
Also McKie doesn't have one either, I think, just the protection from abuse order and charges against him pending.
I could be forgetting stuff, though.

"T...time to leave??"

dmac, I def see your point. I guess it depends on your definition of "criminal record." Via the always infallible wikipedia which has never once contained error:
A criminal record is a list of past crimes for which an individual has been convicted, or received an official reprimand or caution. In some jurisdictions it also includes arrests, charges pending, and even charges of which the subject has been acquitted (though critics claim this violates the presumption of innocence).
I'd agree that's a pretty heavy blanket of a definition though.

It was probably some cunt mainline mom with a lot of free time....maybe even some bored prep school kid. They probably think minorities moving in will cause their street to have a lot of noise and decrease the value of their homes.

Just so I'm clear, bert, in your view, racism is bad, but deciding that the anonymous resident is a woman and calling her a cunt is just par for the course?
That's a tricky moral compass you're operating.

@Bert, I am pretty sure there will be an article about her in philadelphia magazine next month.

It's a lower-cased 't' for "Get out of town!"
You stay classy, Gladwyne.

Remember, guns don't kill people, dangerous minorities kill people.
Slightly OT: Last week I was doing voter registration canvassing at the post office at Snyder and Water. One gentleman must have assumed I was working for Obama, as he informed me that "I ain't voting for no blackie." I bring this up here because he had a Redskins shirt on, thus proving the widely held theory that Redskins fans are generally a pack of drooling imbeciles.

A resident doesn't want someone who has entanglements with the law in the neighborhood and that's racist? Oh yes, it is called racist when the "victim" in question is black and the resident is white. Gee, maybe it is a prejudice against possible criminal mischief.

@ Matthew Rand:
A judge famously called Andy Reid's home a "drug emporium." Where was all the anonymous propaganda after those incidents?
Also, what is Andy Reid's home phone number?

"Moorestown NJ > Gladwyne"
Moorestown is pretty classless also. They want to cut a part of the town off. Surprisingly that section has lower incomes.
They did have to put up with Fredex riding his quad up and down the fields in MoTown.

Aaron McKie should track down the guy who sent out these flyers ... ...
... and blow his f*cking brains out.

Joe Manning, keep your homoerotic fantasies to yourself.
