Elton Brand's Throwback Jersey
After seeing the throwback jersey Elton Brand was sporting yesterday when introduced as the newest Sixer, we got to wondering which jersey he was wearing and whether it would be a staple on the Sixers this season. The Sixers PR people set us straight.
Elton was wearing and presented with the throwback jersey and uniform that we wore last year as part of the league’s Hardwood Classics nights.
It is a uniform that the team has worn in the past, most recently and most often last year, and will continue to do so for some games this season.
The old school block letters spelling "Sixers" on the front is reminiscent of Sir Charles days in Philadelphia. Hopefully, Mr. Brand can bring back some of those big man glory days for the Sixers.

They need to bring those back full time.

I found it interesting that my Sixers "Breaking News" e-mail also featured the "throwback" logo. Seems to me with the uniform surveys last year, the photo shoot, and the e-mail logo...that it's just a matter of time before they make it official.

@Bryan I thought it was the same thing after seeing the jersey and then getting that email...I immediately logged onto sixers.com to see if they'd switched everything over and got real dissapointed.

As long as they wearing something that doesn't have a bunch of stars shooting across it (think Witherspoon years) I'm happy.
I actually like the block lettering. I think its sleek, basic, and classic (as in timeless, not throwback).

also when they had Josh Smith in and did the whole jumbo tron thing they used the old logo and had him in the old jersey.
if they do it for major signings then why not just wear them during the games

That is a terrific jersey, regardless of its age; an absolute classic. I would love to see the 76ers running up & down the court in those retro jerseys.
Nice PR move as well, by positioning them on Brand, the newest member of the team.

Is it just me or does Elton Brand look older than some of the Sixer's players who actually wore that uniform full time.?

He is an old lookin dude for 29. I liked Mo's comments about the expectations that he has off of the floor...when I was rooting for them to sign Josh Smith I wasn't thinking about that. Dre Miller and Elton provide nice veteran leadership for the slew of young guys. The Sixers really have put themsleves back in the mix...it is safe to say all 4 teams now have a high level of excitement around them. First time in quite a few years you could say that.

Poor Shavlik Randolph is losing his #42. Funny how Chris Webber "made" Iguodala give up #4 even though Iggy wound up the more productive Sixer.

The black jerseys are garbage. Bring back those retro jerseys full time.
