Eaton Takes Turn in Atlanta, Tries Not to Suck in the First
Sorry, I was just mesmerized watching Big Daddy Graham on Daily News Live telling us about his incredible talents in the fields of bodysurfing and staring at women on the beach without getting caught by his wife. I almost forgot the Phillies/Braves game thread.
Eaton hasn't earned a win since June 3rd and will try to get the Phils their first series victory in their last seven tries. Adam has the same feelings about his performances as we do, "It would be nice to actually not give up a couple of runs in the first inning," he said. "It's happened in four starts."
Jorge Campillio will make his ninth start of the year after seeing some time as a reliever early on. Campillo has real nice numbers at 2.54 ERA, 53 Ks, and a 1.02 WHIP. The Phils struggled mightily against the American League but will look to continue their recent dominance against the Bravos tonight.
In other news, Brett Myers is making his start tonight in Allentown. The over/under on Myers + Eaton homers given up in the first inning stands at 1.5.

Remember when Benjamin and Russell changed Wayne's World so that it was all corporate, and the intro song was all "Hey!"? That's what the intro song for the Phillies telecasts always reminds me of.
/done picking on the telecast for today

Carrasco is missing his start tonight...

Eaton did not suck in the first.

Can someone explain to me why Ruiz still gets starts for this team???
Posted by: John | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 07:40 PM
Why is Coste not starting 95% of the time?
Posted by: Bobby Finstocks | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 07:40 PM
Phillies are 17-14 when Coste has 3 of more AB in a game. 26-16 with Ruiz 3 or more AB. I don't know what to think.

Say what you will about Eaton, he does have 10 quality starts this year, and in 6 of his last 7. I don't like starting out behind, but he has given them a chance to win almost every start this year

I'm glad I'm not the only person that thinks Coste belongs on the field and out of the dugout. Now if we could only convince Cholly...

Myers Update: 5 IP, 5 Hits, 3 ER, 2BB, 6K's, 0 HR's
100 total pitches/60 strikes

As per Myers: 100 pitches through 5 innings is not good.

anybody else notice that at the moment burrell hit his home run they were doing the wave behind home plate?? karma

So, Durbin's not starting vs the Mets.
Posted by: rachel | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 09:11 PM
He's certainly gained a save in this game.
Posted by: rachel | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 09:15 PM
holy crap Burrell is still in the game in the 8th!
also, thanks Wheels for telling me Durbin is sitting with the starters, I would have never been able to figure that out on my own
Posted by: ricky | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 09:32 PM
after listening to several interviews with charlie and lotsa pregame stuff, the reason why Coste doesn't start more than 2/5 games (related to the pitching rotation) is cause he's older, and his knees are gonna turn to jelly a whole lot quicker than if he's rested.
Also, brett myers is terrible. and jose reyes is gay.

You know, Romero has been quietly mediocre lately - not terrible, but not as good as he's been. I wonder what's changed.

I hate the Braves, but they certainly have some good looking ladies in attendance.

Ricky: How do they explain that Durbin pitched tonite, but he's "sitting with the starters".
He can't possibly start this weekend, can he?

Call me crazy, but I feel really bad for Taguchi. I guarantee he wants to contribute to the team, and I guarantee he doesn't want to suck. I hate to see a guy with a decent career tank at the end.

Two men on base is not an effective use of Brad Lidge Time. Why does the Lidgester like to make me so nervous?
Posted by: JMS | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:15 PM
I also think we should chip in and send Ryan a few Tom Emanski videos. And a garbage can.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:15 PM
Bring me up
I can't be worse than Taguchi, can I?

Before I was joking. Now I am serious.

If anyone should be taken out for defense, it should be Ryan
Posted by: rachel | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:22 PM
You have to wonder....
Why does Manuel take Burrell out for "defensive reasons" but leaves in Ryan Howard late in games?
I would rather have Dobbs or Bruntlett on first late in close games.

How many can you foul off, Texaco?
Posted by: JMS | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:23 PM
wow howard....wow

"I love my glove." J. Roll should do commercials for Trojan.

Struck out the side! On how many pitches?
Posted by: rachel | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:28 PM
"Now we are back in the NL these games do count." He knows they almost lost the division lead because of inter-league right?
Posted by: Cottman&Castor | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:28 PM
wow, lidge made me sweat a little bit there. especially when texeira hit that first long foul. sheesh!
what a clutch pitch there though with a full-count. i'm surprised tex didn't snap the bat over his knee....

As an aside, losing to Scranton isn't going to help Brett's mental state.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 10:30 PM
Did I hear Myers joking about giving up three runs in an inning during the daily news live broadcast?
Posted by: Gaze | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 11:23 PM
Ruiz is much better at handling the staff (yeah, I said handling the staff...hehe) than Coste, and is better defensively. Plus, I guarantee that if Coste played every day, his BA would go down, simply do to wear & tear on a catcher that old.
Posted by: Peter_B | Wednesday, July 02, 2008 at 11:47 PM
The "if he played everyday, his BA would go down" argument has been repeated 1,000 times... but why not try it out? Coste has every bit as good of an arm as Ruiz (arguably better IMO) and his bat is easily 100 times more potent. I'd rather see Coste work on his game calling than Ruiz hacking away at pitches miles outside the zone. Give the guy a chance.

Myers update...he lost...wow he can't even beat a minor league team..how sad

BDG can hold Joe Conklin's jock.
Posted by: Scott | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 07:46 AM
Ryan Howard's reason for his first error was that the ball was hit really hard. I guess he missed the fundamentals of getting in front of the ball and KNOCKING IT DOWN!!!
