Cole and Phils Look to Sweep Jar-Jar and the Braves
It's nice to be back with the National League play, ain't it? Winners of the first two games of this series at Atlanta, the Phillies have locked up their first series win in weeks. A sweep would really feel great heading into the weekend series with the Mutts.
And who better to get us there than Mr. Cole Hamels? In Cole's last matchup with the Braves, which I was fortunate to witness alongside my token Braves-fan friend, he threw a complete game shutout on May 15. Cole got touched up just a bit against Texas last week, but their lineup is nothing to sneeze at and he still threw eight strikeouts. Overall on the season, the Phillies' undisputed Ace is 8-5 with a 3.38 ERA, 103 Ks, and a minuscule 1.03 WHIP.
Hamels will face young hurler Jair Jurrjens, who in his first full season sits at 8-3 with a 2.94 ERA. The Braves have won seven of the righty's last eight starts, and he has not given up an earned run in his last three.
Time to buck that trend and sweep the Braves for the second time in a month.

Winning feels great, and my wife likes me a whole of a lot more when they do...Lets Go Phils!!

Package deal. Ruiz, Myers, Taguchi, Feliz and Gordon for a package of cheddarwurst.

Oh baby ruiz grounds into another double play. Average is now down to .210 only 10 points about the mendoza line. I gotta think that charlie will have to play him way less if his average drops that low.
Posted by: Liam | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 08:11 PM
No matter how low Ruiz's average gets he's still going to play, because Coste will never get more playing time than he already is, they're trying to 'preserve' him.
Posted by: ricky | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 08:15 PM
Ruiz just needs to give up
Posted by: John | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 08:50 PM
@ John:
Honestly. Just stick out the bat a'la Nelly's Batter Up and let it hit it. Standing with the bat on your shoulder is as ineffective as a player gets.
Posted by: Phils Phan | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 08:51 PM
I think everyone needs to calm down about Ruiz. The man calls a good game, and can catch runners stealing well enough. If he can't hit, so be it, because there are plenty of other players in the lineup that can.
Posted by: Benjamin | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:23 PM
Just remember how unplentyful catchers are in the league, and a good hitting AND skilled catcher behind the plate is a very rare catcher indeed. Your #1 concern is that your pitchers are comfortable with him, and he does his homework on what pitches to call against batters.
Posted by: Benjamin | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:25 PM
WE R COMIN TO THE BANK BABY!!! AND WE R BRINGIN THE BATS!! HAPP KENDRICK MOYER EATON WILL BE THROWIN BATTIN PRACTICE!! GLAD TO SEE YOU WASTED COLE!! 4 GAME SWEEP!!
Posted by: Justin | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:41 PM
I miss having a catcher who could get hits and get thrown out trying to leg them into doubles, a la Bob Boone.
Or do you ass holes not remember that?
At any rate, SWWWWWWWWEEEEEEEEPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!
Bobby Cox sucks his surname.

Justin, your caps lock is stuck. Call Dell support.
Posted by: El Ricko | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:45 PM
Wow Justin... wow. At least Seeker and his Penguin douchebag brethern didn't leave their caps lock on.
Fuck the Braves! (and the Mets too)
Posted by: TH | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:46 PM
thank god this mets series is finally here so justin can finally shut about how much better the mets. I hope the phils destroy Santana after he threw his teammates under the bus after his last start.
Posted by: Liam | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 09:49 PM
Fuck. The mets.
They deserve no capital 'M'.
Posted by: Steve | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 10:06 PM

Jesus Christ, why do we attract all the retarded opposing fans? You shitheads make me want Dale Hunter to come back and be a regular.
Posted by: TH | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 10:28 PM
Please tell me that Cole didn't really throw 125 pitches.......
Posted by: Chris D | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 10:31 PM
I don't think they realize that they have caps lock on
Posted by: Liam | Thursday, July 03, 2008 at 10:39 PM
I'm not sure I want Dale or Seeker back, but the caps lock is annoying. Perhaps it got stuck that way after all the temper tantrums mutts fans have had over the mediocre performance of their team, or noticing that they're 4.5 back at this point and have played under .500 ball since June of last year.

It's sad when I live in that beautiful town called Philadelphia, a place where the people are said to be classless, but yet have to protect their wives and families whenever the mets fans come to town...
I'll be enjoying the birth of America down there tomorrow, and capping the series monday...look forward to watching the games, and some vigilante justice when a mets fan gets deservingly ejected for being a belligerent flaming a-hole....

IT'S THE INVASION ON THE GUIDOS!!!
I'm sure all the fake-tanned North Jersey mobbed up trash that comes down here this weekend will pump extra steroids in prep for their CBP visit, along with their language of choice - not English, but the language known as Dumbshit, which all Mutts fans are well-versed in.
I'm sure this guy will be down here this weekend in his David Wright jersey:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JMOh-cul6M
I'll quote the immortal Larry Jones: when this series is over, all the Mutts fans can go home and put on their Yankees gear.
Posted by: MS | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 12:10 AM
MS - NEW JERSEY CAN GO TO HELL! SMELLS LIKE CRIPE AND CRAPERS, LONG ISLAND IS DA BOMB THO! DONT EVER CALL HIM LARRY JONES YOU UNORIGINAL YAGS! ONLY METS FANS CAN CALL HIM THAT YOU DUMB KUNTA

i wonder who billy will blame for his shitty performances this weekend.
Posted by: haha | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 12:20 AM
Why did bob call us gay when it seems all he can talk about is shoving stuff up our ass? And watch out for Johan! 7-7 never seemed so scary. Let hope everyone else does their job this time so he doesn't have to cry about lack of run support
Posted by: Liam | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 12:20 AM

Can someone translate for me please?...I'm having a difficult time understanding North Jersey-Ghetto-Talk.
LETZ GO PHILLAYS WEER AUZOME YOU GUYZ SUCK CUZ YO-HAN GETS PAID ALOTZ TO BE MEDIOCRE. O, AND WE'RE BETAR CUZ OUR COACH DIDN'T GOT FYRED.
At least make some sense in your shit talking..you bring nothing to the table Caps Lock Boy.
Posted by: tom | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 02:22 AM
all of those comments by mets fans are just sad... i'm drunk as hell close to 4 am and
I can call them retarded without feeling bad
Posted by: Johnny G | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 03:39 AM
Let's just treat those mets fans just like how we did the caps, habs (all 0 of them), and pens fans who came here during the cup playoffs....
Mock them uncontrollably!!!
Or ignore them. Either way, the Phillies are the better team in terms of talent and chemistry. The retard met fans that are posting here are only confirming how pathetic and uneducated their fan base is.
Posted by: David | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 04:52 AM
Figures this guy's from Wrong Island, I lived there for 2 years, couldn't wait to leave. What a dump, not to mention the attitude of the people. Sounds like this guy's from Hempstead with his ghetto language talk. Hey Matt, Enrico, can we get out the "banned from the site" stick on this guy? At least Dale and Seeker were sometimes stating key points and once in a while being civil.
Posted by: MSM | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 10:15 AM
What's funny, is that the mets and their fans last year showed a lot of arrogance, and look what happened. Talking about sipping champagne, when the times comes, yadda yadda. It's obvious they haven't learned anything.
Posted by: Benjamin | Friday, July 04, 2008 at 01:58 PM
I love that the Mets fans are saying the Phillies suck when we have a better record than they do.
How does that make sense at all?!?

And to think, the other day I was going to pose the question "Where have all of those retarded met's fans been since the beginning of the season?" They can talk big when they get Johann Santana (German first name, Hispanic last name... odd?) but since the sub .500 season they haven't crawled out from under the rocks.
Seriously, I had an easier time understanding DeSean Jackson's interview than this loser's caps lock tantrum.

@ Phils fan
I do love Hillshire Farms cheddarwurst.
Nice win tonight by the Phils!
