Red Sox-Phils Rubber Match: That's Just Manny Being Scratched
Kyle Kendrick got some good news this morning: Manny Ramirez won't be in the lineup for today's BPS between the Phillies and the Sox. It's not like, 20 runs of support good news, but still.
Manny came out of last night's game in the 7th inning and has been dealing with some hamstring issues, but the Sox haven't said whether it's the hammy or just a normal break for a day game after a night game. The Phils didn't have to face Beckett or Dice-K, Youk or Big Papi, and today they get a green pitcher in Justin Masterson, minus Manny. They'd really better win this one.

I agree, Matt -- there are no excuses today.

If we are not victorious, may no man return home alive!!

Taking 2 of 3 here gives the Phils a bit of a cushion for what will be a tough weekend series against the Angels, where Eaton and Myers will be going against a pretty good Angels team.

God, I love Patton.

"You know something General? Sometimes, they can't tell when you're acting and when you're not."
"It isn't important for them to know. It's only important for me to know."
Totally agree Chamomiles.

Although off topic, this is for Ed who posted about Tiger being a pussy for having knee pain and being praised for playing through 91 holes of golf after 3 months off from golf. According to CNN Tiger Woods will miss the rest of the golf season because he has two stress fractures in his tibia, which occurred right before the start of the US Open. He also needs surgery to repair a torn ligament in his knee. Now granted that this information wasn't available on Monday after Woods' won, and people's praise of his heroics were getting a tad out of hand, it still makes you seem like an ass from what you posted on Monday.
Here is the link to the story:

Shame Woods will miss the rest of the season it is always entertaining to watch him play.

That is some terrible news right there.

Seriously though who do we get to sacrifice if we lose? I vote Myers.

If I'd know one little quote would get you all going, here's a few more appropriate ones...
"May God have mercy on my enemies, because I won't."
And in honor of the overly self-conscious Manny, and modified for our fightin Phils - "The Phillies are a team. They live, eat, sleep and fight as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of bullsh*t."

Ummm, 3 Boston runs from their first three batters. Not a good way to start things off, is it?
/Screw you, Drew!

Please pardon me while I go vomit. 4-0 with no outs in the first. This is ridiculous.
Posted by: GreggyD | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:17 PM
Well I'm glad I didn't take a halfday for this one...
Posted by: Matt P | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:17 PM
Oh, good... make that four runs. So much for "no excuses."

Any time that rain wants to fall, it can go right ahead....

Hurray! An out!
Posted by: Chamomiles Davis | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:19 PM
Well, mercifully we've reached the end of the first inning.
Posted by: Chamomiles Davis | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:22 PM
At least they got 1 back...
Posted by: MikeY | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:32 PM
How the hell can they be losing to a pitcher whose hat doesn't even fit him? Come on!
Posted by: Chamomiles Davis | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:35 PM
They're losing to this pitcher because the Phillies pitcher apparently has forgotten how to pitch in the first inning. It'd be nice if Myers and Kendrick would kindly get their heads out of their asses during the beginning of games.

Yikes the espn gamecast says ruiz is hitting .186 at home...

Killer Kyle strikes out the side in the 2nd...good bounce back inning.

Can Robin Roberts please stay in the booth the whole game? I'm loving this.
Posted by: Teddy | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 01:47 PM
Can anyone on this team learn how to bunt for christ sake, and can Charlie please stop having them try to bunt if they're not capable of doing it correctly. No one should ever pop out on a bunt, especially not if they're a professional baseball player.

For all those watching via the net... you just missed a great Chase Utley play where he caught a broken bat fly ball in the infield (infield fly rule) then dropped it on purpose (in what harry said will not win him any academy awards) in the hopes of turning a double play with the man on second. I love the effort.
Posted by: db | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 02:03 PM
By the way I hope the people who have season tickets in the club level who sold them to Boston fans, particularly that Boston fan who tried catching the ball with his Gunt, take that money and choke on it.
Posted by: Paul | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 02:03 PM
That goes to anyone who gave tickets to boston fans, including the phils for selling to them. Your disgraces. Selling out the home park to that bunch of front running assholes is dispicable... I'd rather you cheer for J.D. Drew and Barry Bonds simultaniously.
/maybe a little pissed were sucking it up this afternoong

Putting Cllay Condrey into a game is the equivalent of waving a white flag
Posted by: John | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 02:34 PM
God i hate boston and all their douche bag fans. I wonder how much it cost when they sold thier soul to the devil. looks like another great offensive display from the phillies today. way to keep it close kendrick.
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Utley should not be in this game. He needed to sit today.
Posted by: Mike L. | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 02:57 PM
There's nothing worse than watching the gamecast at work show you nothing but misery.
How do the get themselves up for the 1st game in a big series, then disappear for the next 2? Disappointing would be an understatement.
Posted by: Benjamin | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 03:15 PM
Anyone else feel like they're being raped by JD Drew with a size D battery right now?
Posted by: Gaze | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 03:21 PM
Bottom of the 7th currently- 2 runs, 0 outs, top of the line up coming up...things are looking up
Posted by: MikeY | Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Good riddance to the Sox and their bandwagon fans. Off day is most welcome, for the team (especially the bullpen, which has gotten way too much work the past few days and Utley) and for me, as I need a break myself. Let's come back and win the next series.
I don't know about anyone else but if on Friday the Phils come out and win the game by a high score are you as worried as I am that they will drop the next 2?
