That's Just Manny Being a Little Shove-y

After all the fun we had last week with Shawn Chacon showing Astros GM Ed Wade what the ceiling looks like, we thought we'd received our full allotment of player-on-staff violence for the month of June. Not so. The Providence Journal is reporting that Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez shoved the team's traveling secretary, Jack McCormick, to the ground after a dispute over the tickets Manny had requested.

Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night's Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games.

When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: "Just do your job!

An argument insued [sic] and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the        ground.

Apologies behind closed doors resolved the situation—more proof that talent wins out in most player-team issues. Chacon, who was a disappointment on a disappointing Astros team, gets provoked into a skirmish with his GM, and he's gone. Manny abuses the help, and it's water under the bridge. And I say, Rightfully so, America.

There's also a BIG difference in choking the GM and shoving a (male) secretary to the ground.

Not only does the talent level of the player change things, but so does the level of club employee.

I'd say that's true, Tartan. If Chacon pushes the traveling sec, he's still gone. But if Manny pushes Theo, it's resolved with an apology behind closed doors.

Special rules for special talent. It's just how it is.

Unless your the Philadelphia Eagles that is. Special talent in T.O. did not warrant him any special treatment. It's good that the Eagles don't put up with that crap, but everyone knows our offense would like oh so much better with him still here.

@ Matt P - agreed. Although I see Theo commanding a bit more respect than Wade. And Theo is probably smart enough (smarter than Wade) to not put himself in that situation...much like how one of the Philly writers mentioned that Gillick would never have put himself in that situation.

Wade should have stuck to scouting.

Bottom line: Titles do not dictate respect.

What does it say about Ed Wade that Chacon reacted by pushing him in the first place?

Actually, the far worse crime, IMO, is Manny pushing someone who supports the actual operations of the team. You can tell alot about people by the way they trade support folks.

What I meant to say:

You can tell alot about people by the way they treat support folks.

Manny will buy the traveling sec a new Rolex and everything will be fine.

Ed Wade will fuck up the Astros and things will continue to be right in the world.

That's just manny being a douche bag bum, like always. FUCK RED SOX NATION!
