Phillies: This Losing Is Getting Old
It seems like it's been ages since that wonderful evening when the Phillies beat the Red Sox...
The Phils funk continued late Tuesday night in Oakland.
Jamie Moyer looked stellar through six innings allowing only one hit. But things unraveled a bit in the seventh when Moyer gave up a three run blast, giving the A's a 3-1 lead that the Phils couldn't fight back from.
Burrell gave the Phils the lead with a solo blast in the fourth and Howard knocked in Shane in the eighth but the bats were otherwise silent. The play of the game after the jump.

Nobody's hitting very well right now, but when I see Jenkins or Ruiz come up to the plate these days, I throw up in my mouth a little.

Coulda warned me you were being sarcastic on the play of the game. I just hate Chooch at this point. Maybe Lieby has a comeback in him.

Lou Marson. He may be young and in AA, but in 66, he's batting .330 with 48 walks. He's the future.
I hope. He's outplaying Jaramillo, which I suppose says a lot about the current state of the Phillies' minor league catching situation.

Lamest play of the game of all time. Epic loss there.

Hey Kulp,
Figured you would see this on a newer post rather than the old one.
Yes, the cheesesteak stand is where the former mini-golf used to be.
Also, I got the inside scoop on some new dishes that may be coming out, I'll let you know for sure when they do, but I've sampled them, and they are very tasty.

i figured it out! the last time i shaved (with the same sort of old gillette safety razor we see richie ashburn using on youtube) was last monday before THE LAST WIN. and the last time i really shaved (i.e. 3 passes, with and against the grain) was the atlanta sweep. this is all MY fault! a half hour and several nicks later, i think i'm ready to forecast a slump-snap TOMORROW.

Hey yea this slump sucks but lets look on the bright side no one else in our divisions hot right now either last division team we played we swept. So if we were bound to slump at least this is a better time and hopefully we turn it on now cause July is where it really counts with almost two series against each divisional rival.
Yes we could have shut the door and hoped to just Coste (haha) through July. But hey this will really give us some excitement for the middle of the season. With the All Star game to break it up and give players that extra boost we can turn it on for the stretch.
My Slogan for July - "July is this Year's September" - Let's Go Phils
The bright side again our pitching from our pitcher's is what we expected if not better minus some of the HR's but we expected them to gie up these runs. We have the offense - It's Hitting Season and we were hitting when it was cold. I know it will be plenty warm in our bandbox in July.

Yeah everyone said that it would be "plenty warm in our bandbox" at the end of May, and the beginning of June, and now at the end of June. How many times are we going to have to make excuses for this team?? I couldn't make it through last night's game after waking up at 6 am and having to wake up at 6 am again today, so I went to sleep with a 1-0 lead only to wake up and see the highlights of another disgusting loss. I'm so pissed off at this "team." It wouldn't even surprise me if they got swept in Oakland. I don't care if the rest of the division isn't doing too hot right now. This would be a great time to just be winning consistently and putting a lot of ground between themselves and the other four squads. But then again, the Phillies can't do anything consistently so why should I expect anything.

You can't lose to a guy like Joe Blanton. He stinks on ice.

i cant stomach jenkins anymore
his swing looks like he is trying to hit a golf ball

@the krish: how about when the announcers were describing Manuel's thinking in having him in the lineup... he's a lowball hitter, and Blanton throws a lot of low pitches. Of course, Jenkins promptly K'd on a pitch above his head and a foot outside.

So we all know about the possibility of the organization bringing in CC Sabathia, and I for one have said that I would not bring him in unless he can get signed right away. If Sabathia was re-signed, the Phils might not have many other options in free agency next year because he will demand a very fat contract.
However, today I read that Brewers pitcher Ben Sheets also wants to test free agency in the offseason. Sheets is 9-1 with a 2.59 ERA. I think the Brewers are a very similar team to the Phillies, one that relies on its offense to get things done. So I ask you, if you had the choice of trading for Sabathia and re-signing him, or simply waiting for Sheets to hit the market, what would you do?

I cant stand Ruiz. He cant hit himself out of a wet paper bag. He's no young guy either, at 29. Time to make him a backup or just flat out demote him. Marson is the future and the future is now.

I vote we put Chris Coste in the Way-Back Machine, shave about eight years off of his life, and let him catch every day.
