The Phillies Go Green in Big Way
We missed this last week when the Phils wore green hats for a game, but the organization has taken some of the most impressive steps among any franchise in sports in terms of offsetting their carbon footprint.
To offset the carbon footprint created by the team's utility power usage at Citizens Bank Park, the Phillies have purchased 20 million kilowatt-hours of Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs). According to the EPA, this is the largest single purchase of 100% renewable energy in professional sports and is equivalent to the planting of 100,000 trees.
Maybe we can get a little more ivy on the bricks around the ball park as well. Look out for beer cups at CBP to be made out of corn instead of plastic. Big ups to the Phils.

I am a self-described Green person, and I couldn't be more proud of this city's sports franchises for taking the lead in going green. I believe that the Eagles are already the NFL's top green team, and they just opened the Eagles forest. It makes me even more proud to be a fan of these franchises.

I was impressed last year when my beer from CBP came in a biodegradable corn-based cup last year.

It is nice to see that the sports teams are leaading the way in the city to lessen their footprint. It would be nice if we could get more companys and government agencies to follow suit in the city.

I personally hate environmentalism for its pointlesness(sorry Chutley), but I would support Homer Simpson-style nacho hats.

Very cool. Environmentalism is not pointless. There are definitive long term impacts from everything we do to our one, and only, home planet. I'm proud to see the Phillies setting an example.
And I thought they already had cups made of corn at CBP (You definately can't eat them, so don't try. They, in every way, are exactly like plastic cups, except being plastic of course)

Wow I feel like I should go hug a tree now. Be still my bleeding heart.

we should worry more about signing a pitcher than saving a tree or two.
that said, good job i guess.

No offense but if I had to choose between as humans sustaining ourselves within our Terrestrial environment(that means staying on Earth for you speds) and winning a sports championship for Philly, I would pick the former. Anyone who is opposed to environmentalism, I hope you don't have kids and if you already do, I hope they're the first ones to feel the adverse effects of our abuse of Earth.

Unless my kids live to be 5 billion years old (when the Andromeda Galaxy is to collide with the Milky Way Galaxy), the Earth will do fine regardless of me drinking out of a corn husk.
