Jamie Moyer Has Pitched All Over
The Phils take on the Nats tonight for the rubber match of this week's series in DC. Jamie Moyer will take the mound for the Phils. It will be the 46th ball park that the Pennsylvania native has pitched at in his lengthy career but he could be outdone by reliever Rudy Seanez. Dudes have been around the block, obviously. The Nats are throwing out Chico's Bail Bonds who comes into the game with a big oh and five record.
The over/under on Ryan Howard strikeouts on the night is 2.5. Whatcha got?

^ right so far
nice double RyHo
Posted by: ricky | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 07:16 PM
I'll take the under, that 1/2 point is generous.
Posted by: Walklett | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 07:39 PM
I'll take the over - even with the 2b early
Posted by: Chris | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 07:41 PM
We've been letting Chico get some VERY fast outs - a bunch have been on the forst or second pitch. He's got a fairly low pitch count for this point in the game (but not THAT low). We've got to be more patient with him - he clearly doesn't have knockout stuff today.

Nice homers that inning. But what is happening to the machine these days.
Posted by: Mike L. | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 08:35 PM
That guy Elijah Dukes is awesome! Looks like he's 0-2 so far this game, but I hope he gave the bat an "Eff you!" toss to the ground when he popped up weakly!

In center field is that an NRA sign?
Posted by: themajor | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 08:54 PM
Ladies and gentleman, I suggest to you it is time to go down to D.C. and start cracking skulls.
I'm watching the Nats broadcast, and Zimmerman just made a GOD-AWFUL throw to first, leading to Coste reaching safely.
Now, first the Nats colorman made the absolutely ridiculous claim that this was a great play by Dmitri (Cap'n IHOP) to keep Feliz from going to third.
Then came the punishable-by-death portion of the commentary. Bascially, the colorman (I don't even know who this asshole is) claimed that, basically, Zimmerman is the best third baseman in frickin' years. "Best since Brooks Robinson. I mean, I love Mike Schmidt, but he got to play on Astroturf, and it's a lot easier to field on Astroturf than natural grass."
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME????? AND THIS IS AFTER ZIMMERMAN MADE A GOD-AWFUL-BUTT-UGLY PLAY.
I repeat:
ARE YOU KIDDING ME????
Zimmerman is a turd. This announcer is a complete ass clown. Come on: It was Jayson Stark, or some ESPN writer, who wrote that Schmidt was the best player PERIOD (not best third baseman) between Mays and Bonds. Zimmerman can't even smell Schmidt's level of play. These guys should go eff themselves.

The baseball gods seem as displeased as I.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 08:57 PM
Zimmerman isn't even the best 3B in the damn game!!
Posted by: Chris | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:00 PM
Settle down, Beavis.
And E, you should know better than to openly mock Ryan The Great for no good reason.
2 HR's.

Does anyone else find Tom McCarthy really annoying???
Posted by: johndewar | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:01 PM
Heheh. Welcome back, Ryan.
Posted by: Saul | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:02 PM
I'm not even sure if Ryan Zimmerman is as good a fielder as Scott Rolen, let alone Mike Schmidt.
And I hate Scott Rolen, so that really pained me to type that.

THE BIG MAN!!!!
When the weather heats up, so does Ryan Howard... Boy do I hope this is the start of one of his hot streaks, because if it is, look out NL East.
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:03 PM
"I don't remember an uglier inning than this all season long," says the Nats' announcer.
Thou shalt not take the name of Mike Schmidt in vain...
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:04 PM
The over/under on Ryan Howard extra base hits was 2.5, right?
Posted by: ron | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:06 PM
Ah. Ray Knight, it appears, is the colorman. Always been an ass.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:06 PM
This is awesome. Everybody hits. WOOooo!!
Posted by: Benjamin | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:07 PM
After the 1st game of this series, I said the Phillies need something to get the lineup and pitching clicking together. Well, last night was a duel into the 8th inning, and tonight the team has exploded and the ancient veteran is giving Washington fits. Was the clutch 8th inning playing last night the catalyst?? I sure hope so!!
Posted by: Benjamin | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:09 PM
That was a typo. I meant O/U on Ryan Howard HRs.
Posted by: enrico | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:15 PM
As much as I hate to admit it:
David Wright > Ryan Zimmerman
Posted by: Walklett | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:19 PM

Posted by: jd | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:23 PM

I'm watching it... "legally."
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:26 PM
damn-didn't even show up on the tv listings.
gracias, el ricko
Posted by: jd | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:31 PM
It feels good to eff my golden sombrero right now. Thanks for asking.
Posted by: Mike H. | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:32 PM
@ El Ricko:
The Phils announcers had similar things to say about Zimmerman and Young after that play. Young actually did make a good block on the play, and they weren't saying Zim is the best or anything like that, but they praised his improvement and compared him to Rolen and Schmidt.
And yes, Tom McCarthy is awful.
Posted by: Kulp | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:32 PM
Always a pleasure.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:33 PM
I do enjoy a good, televised blood-letting. Nice to see the big man start to heat up.
Posted by: Loqiel | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:35 PM
Well, Kulp, maybe I sold Cap'n Short Stack at first base a little... short. But the Nats announcers weren't talking about Zimm's "improvement", they were saying he IS the best fielding third baseman since Robinson, and discounted Schmitty's abilities because he played on Astroturf. Which is all complete horseshit, anyway you look at it. Zimmerman < Rolen << Schmidt.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM
Hey, Dukes got a hit! Maybe he won't try to kill any loved ones tonite.
Posted by: johndewar | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM
"That's his second hit of the year." "They're very happy for him."
Someone call an ambulance, I'm dying laughing.
Posted by: Loqiel | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM
Yeah, I hear ya, just thought it was interesting the broadcasts were similar.
Posted by: Kulp | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:45 PM
Being a DC resident, I have the pleasure of watching my fair share of MASN broadcasts. Bob Carpenter does his best impression of "Hawk" Harrelson with the "our guys" and "your guys" talk. That kind of blatant homerism really starts to get on your nerves when you're rooting for the other team. Carpenter also seems like he's commentating the game to people who have never watched baseball before, like he has to explain simple rules to us. Must be for the noob Nats fans.
Don Sutton, the usual color man, is admittedly pretty good. I guess the Braves didn't want him anymore, but I think he does a good job. Ray Knight has been irritating this week though.
I had MLB Extra Innings for a while, and pretty much all away broadcasts suck except for Vin Scully in Dodger games...but he's a legend. I hate Wheels and he commentates for us; I can't imagine what it'd be like if I were a fan of another team listening to him.
Posted by: Blues | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:49 PM
Weird, Kulp. Maybe Bud Selig is sending out talking points to all broadcasters.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:51 PM
Didn't realize Don Sutton did Nats broadcasts. He's always been pretty good, even with the Braves, whose announcers always annoyed the crap out of me. And Vin Scully is absolutely fantastic. My formative years watching baseball on TV took place in San Diego County, but all the Pads games were blacked out, so I ended up watching a lot of Dodgers broadcasts. Great stuff.
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:55 PM
At least that's how I remember things... I don't know, I've had a few too many by now...
Posted by: El Ricko | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 09:59 PM
There's the Ryan Howard we know and lov.. er, know.
Posted by: Loqiel | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 10:05 PM
Wow fellas save some of those runs for the next game... no more 1-0 crap where Lidge has the chance to walk everyone again
Posted by: Chris | Wednesday, May 21, 2008 at 11:35 PM
Looks like Pat Burrell is ready to settle back into a month or so of mediocrity.
He just wanted to start this season off hot so we would all shut up about him while Howard slumped and Rollins was out.
Posted by: Zack | Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 01:06 AM
@Zack
Are you honestly bitter that Burrell OPSed like 1.300 for the first month of the year, and are you honestly pissed off that he won't keep up that pace?
I mean, shouldn't we be thanking God that he was as hot as he was to start the season, and won us some games? And now with Howard (hopefully) back on track and Rollins healthy, isn't this an okay time to maybe struggle a bit?
How about we cut the guy some slack.
Posted by: pilgrim | Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 01:33 AM
I watched the game in a bar and thank god it was in the philly area. If I ever hear say someone say Ryan Zimmerman is as good as Mike Schmidt at anything, I will know immediately that they are a retard. I am tired of color men for networks thinking that it is their job to make outrageous claims about anything they can think of. But you know what it all comes down to how much we shell out for ESPN "commentary", when really they don't know shit and encourage everyone else to be as idiotic as possible just to create "contrversy".
Posted by: Paul | Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 05:07 AM
I definately agree on cutting pat some slack,he needs to get back on track but unlike the other struggling power hitter pat knows how to take a walk and I will take a slumping guy who can get on base over a guy who swings at anything.

I'm not saying I don't like Pat Burrell or anything...I love Pat Burrell
I'm saying...that everyone that follows the Phillies knows that Pat Burrell goes on epic highs and epic lows. They also know that Burrell really shines when there are problems in other places. When Utley was hurt last year and we had all the pitching problems, who stepped up in a HUGE way...Pat Burrell. Now this year when Howard started the season piss poor and Rollins was hurt...who stepped up HUGE (besides Utley)...Pat Burrell.
Now that everyone else is back and Howard seems to have somewhat found his swing...Pat will go back to the Pat Burrell that we love/hate, even though I love him regardless. What I was saying was that we won't hear for his neck like we were heading into July last year when he was dipping down to .200 because he started off the season so hot and helped the Phils win a lot of games.
