Fan Report: D-Backs Come Correck With the Hotties, Phanatic Responds Accordingly
Mike, aka MPR529, is our man on the scene in Arizona for the Phillies series this week. Via his flickr photostream, we have some great photos of Ryan Howard striking out (rare capture!) and, perhaps more importantly, some AZ poon that the D-Backs pay to be in attendance. Brilliant!

The Phanatic, hero to us all, was in Arizona, showin' em how a real mascot does, and took the opportunity to be a true ambassador.

How is the D-Backs' attendance so poor with all this going on?
Fortunately, the following scene did not involve one of the D-Backs girls, or we might be having an entirely different conversation right now...
And finally, some video of the big green pimp working his charm:

got to love the phanatic

God Bless the Phanatic! He's truly awesome. You'd have to bleed charisma to even sniff the inside of that suit I'd imagine.

I tracked him down to get a picture and he's ripe on the outside so I can't imagine what's inside.
More photos after tonight's game. Glad you guys enjoy them.

do you think he checks the costume or is it in a carry-on bag?
Posted by: theKrisheim | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 12:11 PM
What's all this talk of a "costume"?
Posted by: Nick | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 12:18 PM
i've heard the phanatic is actually 3 different people...i've also heard it's been the same guy since 1993. can anyone clear that up?

I'm pretty sure it's Tom Bergoine (sp?) who is the Phanatic's caretaker. They're like best buds.

"I tracked him down to get a picture and he's ripe on the outside so I can't imagine what's inside."
It's probably like sitting in the bathroom doing Nature's work; you don't notice the smell because it gradually forms, but if you leave the bathroom and go back in to get something you forgot.. well, that's a different story entirely.

Phanatic probably pulled all of that aforementioned "poon" after the game.
Posted by: DLo34 | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 12:39 PM
it appears he may have got a little too excited and lost his chance at pulling any of the afformentioned poon in the last picture. that poor guy never had a chance.

They played "Let's Make A Deal" with a Dbax fan and he didn't chose the giant box. I said to my girlfriend, "How bad ass would it be if the Phanatic were in there?" Out pops the lovable green furball!
An old lady in front of me clad in turquoise and sedona red exclaimed back to me, "What is that thing?" How she's still alive, I'll never know.

Great pics. I think it's cool that the D-Backs welcome the Phanatic at the game. I see that they ripped off "Will it Float?" from Letterman.

Phanatic phukkake!
Posted by: Clare | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 12:57 PM
Could you ever see this flying at Shea? About as likely as Mr. Met getting an invite to CBP...
Speaking of mascots...obviously the Phanatic is head and shoulders above anything else in Philly. But does Swoop or Hip Hop come next? Dare I say Phlex? One of the college mascots? My vote is for the rabbit.

does anyone else feel like those girls are like 15 yrs old?
Posted by: ill | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Being that they're DBacks employees I'm gonna guess they have to be at least 18.
They look about 20-22 to me.

Are we sure Matt Leinart wasn't the Phanatic that night?

my favorite professional mascot from philadelphia (the hawk easily takes the college title) next to the phanatic was big shot. i still consider hip-hop illegitimate...the same can be said for the black in the sixers logo. one of the worst decisions pat croce ever made. the sixers are not pirates.

My 2 cents is that big Shot was retarded, and that flapping arms thing that the Hawk does is ridiculous and annoyingn.
Then again my college's mascot is a Scottie Dog so WTF do I know?

Do you think the Phanatic's man-butter is green?
Posted by: Walklett | Wednesday, May 07, 2008 at 05:09 PM
I would say at least 3 people have worn the costume since it was created. Dave Raymond created and was the original phanatic. I believe the phanatic's new buddy or caretaker was his fill-in and the one that wore Phanatic's Mother costume. Raymond left to start a company that designed mascot's costumes. Tom Bergoine? just moved up and a new guy fill-ins when needed now and plays the mom on Mother's day. They may have a couple of fill-ins now since you see a dad and a mom on his birthday. I have heard that the fill-ins do a good amount of the public appearences. This allows them to work on their Phanatic skills.

They all seem to have the exact same mannerisms I remember as a kid down to a T. Excellent work.

That first pic looks the Yahoo! Sports Minute doll came to life.

Does the Phanatic always go on Phils' road trips? Are the D-Backs so desperate for fans that they requested the Phanatic come along? Do other parks have the Phanatic romp around with their ladies? Am I a dumbass?

My 2 brothers were at one of those games down in Arizona. I'll be at the Giants/Phillies game on Saturday. Representing the Philly faithful while I'm there.
