Eagles Old School Helmets Get the Shaft
Over at MJD's corner of Yahoo! he's running a bit on the best NFL football helmets of all time. The Eagles old school domes get a nod but don't crack the top 10.
Philadelphia Eagles, '74 - '95
The Eagle wings coming out of the forehead are iconic. It's actually pretty similar to the look the Eagles sport now, but this was back in the days of the kelly green, before the Eagles sold out and opted for a darker, more "trendy" color.
You know, it would be nice to see the Birds wear the Kelly green unis for a game or two this year. The fans have wanted to see it for a while, and it's been long enough to officially call them "retro."
Alot of great players wore Kelly Green....

I completely agree. If Lurie thinks it's a good idea to field players in the blue and gold of 75 years ago, it's an outstanding and intelligent idea to put the squad in kelly green. I think the fans would love it.

I'm a huge fan of the Detroit Lions' unis that are usually worn on Thanksgiving, the plain silver helmet with the all-blue jerseys. They remind me of Penn State's unis which I love. For me, less is more.

Ugh, this is another place where the current ownership drives me nuts. I actually think alot of the current merchandise the birds sell ain't that great.
Would it kill them to sell stuff with the old logo from the 80s with the flying eagle? Just very simple designs....

I remember being really disappointed when the current Eagles unis were unveiled. The old kelly green ones just symbolized intimidation to me, and I didn't get that feeling with these. I guess I've gotten used to the dark green, but I'd love to see them go back for a game or two.

I love the team during the "Kelly Green" years, but the uniforms were the worst. I hope they never return. Please Jeff, do not bring them back even for a preseason game.

I don't think I've ever come across an Eagles fan that didn't like the kelly green. Bring that 'ish back.
