Could DeSean Jackson Be the Next Devin Hester?
When asked who DeSean Jackson could be compared to, Jerry Rice says Bears stud return man Devin Hester. That would be tremendous for the return game. [FH]

I'm starting to think Jerry Rice has alzheimer's... Did we really need him to say that our undersized, lightning fast, proven return man should remind us of devin hester?

Save the Devin Hester comparisons. How could he ever live up to that?
Best case, Steve Smith. Worst case, Dante Hall.

That's not exactly a horrible worst case in terms of the return game.
Certainly wouldn't help the receiving core though.

Just to clarify my comment, Hester is a one-of-a-kind player. He has as many kick, punt, and FG return touchdowns in two seasons as Dante Hall has in his six year career.
There hasn't been a player like Devin Hester in a long time, if ever.

8-year career actually...

I mean, the numbers are pretty clear that Hester is the best return man ever, even though he's only been around for 2 or 3 years. We've all heard how he'll probably break the record for return TDs in the coming season, barring injury. Jackson seems pretty legitimate after watching his films, but we'll still have to see how he does on the field. I'm excited, though - he should be great.

if he's even half of Devin Hester that would be HUGE for our return game.

if he can catch the ball and not lose yards thats good for our return game

If he could grow 3-4 inches and gain some weight, that'd be AWESOME!

This dude is going to be just another huge let down.. although it sounds as if his father will be entertaining to listen to

Have the Birds pretty much given up on a deal for a top receiver? And has there been any progress on moving Lito, or are we going into the season with the CB triple stack?

@ El Ricko:
Name a top wide receiver that is available. Really, they are fine. They've made deep playoff runs with less talent.
Like Reid says, Lito is here. They are no longer shopping him. If the right offer comes along, they could still move him, but the chances are slim.
1. Because they could not deal him prior to the draft, they did not add an immediate replacement.
2. It remains unlikely there is a team willing to make a lucrative enough offer to either the Eagles or Lito Sheppard.

@Kulp
Good points. I was just wondering if the front office was spinning a trade for someone "unavailable."
The receiving corps is probably "fine,' but that's pretty far from "great." Certainly better than Pinkston-Thrash (God, I hope so). But I'm uncomfortable with the comparison to the deep-playoff teams, especially the three-straight conference title teams -- the Eagles were overall much more dominant, in a much weaker conference. And in at least one (against the Panthers, and maybe against the Bucs as well) of the conference title games, the poor receiving corps was a major contributor to the loss. The offense has simply been better with a vertical threat like Stallworth or Owens. I just threw up in my mouth typing that.
Or is my analysis way off?
But I like having Lito still on the team -- cap, playing time, and ego bruise issues aside.

DUDES!!!! stop with "bigtime" reciever talk!! with all due respect to my fellow eagles fans....its all about the health of #5...always has been. the buc's beat us while #5 was coming back from a broken bone. panthers beat us while #5 played hurt. remember the cheap shot early in the 1st half. 2005-06-07 all gone with injury. thank god for a "healthy" garcia in 06. bottomline.....a healthy #5 for the whole year equals a deep january play-off run. the bowl depends on how well our defense plays. if #5 gets a season ending injury, we all know he is gone. THEN we can talk about a "bigtime" reciever. you know this team could use just a little good fortune. they were playing just as good as anyone else when the season ended last year. i look for big things this year, quite frankly i'll be very dissapointed anything short of the championship game.
