Brian Dawkins Not Happy About Sheppard Situation, Doesn't Think Lito Will Be an Eagle

"The way it has played out, I don't see those three guys being here at the same time," Dawkins said. "It's a tough situation to be in, and this is somebody I'm close to and I consider a close friend. I don't like it for him. Whatever happens, I hope it works out best for Lito. I hate that this is happening to him."

Pretty self explanatory really. When the vocal leader on your team isn't happy I'm sure it ripples throughout the rest of the locker room. Here's to hoping this situation clears itself up sooner rather than later.

I always hate when athletes talk about another player's status with the team. In all fairness, Dawk didn't say he is unhappy from a football standpoint, only that he is unhappy about the way the situation has been handled with his friend. I'm sure that's a common reaction in the NFL.

By the way, that Adarius Bowman story may turn out to be bunk.

i assume those "3 guys" are Sheldon, Asante, and Lito?

this Lito stuff is starting to bug me, what are they going to get for him, a #2? I hope thats what they get i get the feeling all the teams that would be interested are too worried about his proneness to injury to want to give up too much for him.

If they can't get enough for him, and IMO a 2 is what they should get, they should keep him and let him be the best #3 corner in the league and then try to deal him again next off-season if they still wish to do so.

I'm of the same persuasion as Sean on this one. If were not going to get a player who can instatly contribute (on O or D) then why trade him now. I would love to see this team go into the season with 3 guys capable of starting at corner- especially for those games against TO and Plaxico. Plus, isn't any one of these guys a better experiment across from Dawkins at safety than what we have now?

By "a better experiment across from Dawk at safety" do you mean at Strong Safety? If yes, then ahhhh no.

Personally, I wouldn't put Sheldon there for more than a couple of plays and those are on the more obvious passing downs. Anyone else up to and including Sheldon would get run over repeatedly.

bigmyc04 - Thanks for clearing that up. I though I remembered that beig discussed after the Asante signing but couldn't remember the final conclusion. I still think having three corners is not the worst scenario to start the season with.

Am I the only one who would prefer it if Lito stuck around?

I like Dawkins, but I'm kind of annoyed by his comment about how the Eagles have handled the situation:

"You understand there's a business side of things, but . . . business can be handled in a better manner."

Unfortunately, Dawkins fails to recognize that this is entirely Lito's fault. It is Lito's unhappiness that has caused this rift. Does Dawkins think that maybe Lito shouldn't talk about restructuring when he's been injured as much as Lito has been?

The Eagles can be faulted for many things, but this is about Lito no longer wanting to play for a contract he happily signed only a few years ago. A contract that he hasn't really outperformed.

the guys over at phillyphellas had a funny take on this situation.

If we get Chad Johnson or Roy Williams in return for that trade, i'm all for it. I'll take a 1st round pick for next year too but wouldn't be very happy about it. I say that all of those options are to late. I want Lito to stay on the team now. I feel the big problem with this situation isn't the difference between their contracts. It is the fact that Samuel took over as the number 1 when we signed him.

I really don't see what point there is to trading Lito at this point. If it had been for an elite set of hands, that's one thing. At this point, it doesn't look like any team is going to put there best receivers on the table. If we can't get a good receiver, I'd rather keep someone who can nullify and shut down those receivers.

Lito will be dealt for a 2009 draft pick. 2009 Eagles will be totally new with Thomas, Runyan, Dawkins and McNabb all gone.

It's in the Eagles best interest this year to finish 6-10ish so that they can justify getting rid of McNabb.
