Angelo and Andy on Eagles WRs

Andy Reid was a guest of the WIP morning show today, where Angelo Cataldi went right for the questions pertaining to the Eagles sometimes puzzling approach to wide receivers.

As expected, no real fireworks, but I thought Andy did fairly well there, even if he just stuck to the usual script. We all know they tried to improve at WR, at least by attempting to lure away Randy Moss, and they probably went for several other top guys. But the options weren't there, and he's standing by the guys he has and projecting confidence about the offense. What else is he going to do, say he'd love to make Reggie Brown his team's third option, and Kevin Curtis its second? Anyway, I'm actually not all that disappointed with the WR situation right now, for the most part because I know they tried to make something happen. The marquee guys weren't available, and they didn't overpay for the second tier players this year. [/spadaro]

I do think that relying heavily on the TEs in the end zone might need to be a short-lived strategy though.

I have to admit that for the first couple of minutes I thought I was listening to Joe Conklin. Kudos to Reid for appearing on the talk show that doesn't kiss his ass on a regular basis.

The Eagles always rely heavily on the tight end in the red zone, but that's not limited to throwing the football to L.J. The presence of a scoring threat at tight end also creates favorable match-ups for Westbrook.

If Donovan can stay healthy, I believe Reggie Brown could set career highs in both receptions (61) and yards (816) this season.

WIP will now broadcast all Eagles games.
I'm just saying is all...

I think that if Andy was really being honest he would admit that the Eagles do need a WR. He tried to acquire one repeatedly through trade and free agency but wasn't able to get a premier talent.

The WR corps the Eagles have right now isn't as bad as they are perceived to be, but they're not good enough.

angelo is a moron, they need a real sports reporter in there to hammer away at andy . you could tell that angelo didnt do his homework and had no clue what to say.

Matt, I just wanted to let you know that I referenced this link on my blog. Good stuff.
